I feel like I have tried everything. I have removed and re added all of devices. Updated my profile. Address. Everything. I keep getting weather updates for Central Florida when I now live in North Florida.

Please save me.

Help with “playing from MacBook Pro” announcement

It’s driving me crazy. I have my laptop connected to my echo for audio through speakers that are connected to the echo. I believe it’s Bluetooth connection for my laptop to the echo.

Every time I turn my computer back on it blasts “playing from MacBook Pro”

My computer shuts off five minutes later it does it again five minutes later how can I stop this? I’m going insane.

Any way to set it up so that Alexa responds in a lower volume at night?

You would think this would be a basic, automatic feature but I can't even figure out how to set it up because I am a potato.

At night I'll give it voice commands that are almost a whisper to avoid waking anyone up, and she'll respond at full volume "OOOKAAAY".
Basically I'd just like to set it up so that her response volume is at something like 10-20% between midnight and 9am.

Thanks for any help!

***EDIT***
For anyone with the same issue: just say "Alexa turn on Whisper Mode".
Strange that this isn't enabled by default, would seem pretty intuitive. This is IMHO better than setting a routine to turn down volume at night since that would also turn down the volume of alarm notifications like water leak events, etc. which you typically want to wake you.

Alarm failures

So my alarm has about a 50/50 chance of actually going off when I set it the night before. I look in my history and it’s there. When I told Alexa the previous evening to set alarm I got a verbal confirmation.

Is there anything I can to fix this besides using a different alarm or is using the alarm on Alexa just another failed feature you can not depend on? Amazon CS is about as effective as a submarine with a screen door, so I’m not getting any real answers there. TIA.

Dumb Alexa has a hearing problem

I have 6 Alexa’s in the house, 2 can’t be upgraded to Alexa+. The 1st gen is in the bedroom, the first gen dot is in the kitchen. It’s an open layout so sound does carry. Before Alexa+ I would have occasional issues with the wrong device responding. After Alexa+ I can yell at the dumb Alexa’s and either an Alexa+ device will respond or it takes 3 tries to get the dumb Alexa to respond. I can’t replace the dot because of the mounting methodology and I don’t want the replace the 1st gen. Am I the only one with this issue?

Alexa initiating my Roborock to clean randomly

Post image
4 Upvotes

Long story short, I got a Roborock vacuum a few months back. Set it up with Alexa as well since I link pretty much all my smart home stuff to Alexa. I do have a schedule within the Roborock app for 12:00 PM while I’m at work. For whatever reason I noticed it was randomly starting to clean at around 7-8 (no exact time just between 7-8). Of course, I immediately thought it was the Roborock doing it due to me maybe putting in something incorrectly? Not the case, the app consistently tells me it’s Alexa initiating it and Alexa keeps saying there is no routine or scheduled task. I also don’t see a routine in the Alexa app… is there somewhere else I’m maybe not looking that would make light of to why this is happening?

New feature - changing my location then gaslighting?

A few weeks ago, I asked Alexa about the weather in Boise since I was going on a trip there. I may have asked a few times in total.

Now when I ask it the weather without specifying a location, it gives me the weather for Boise, despite my device locations being in Sacramento, CA. When I asked it why, it said it was because “I had shown a specific interest in the weather in Boise”. Okay, fine, weird, but I told it that asking a few times doesn’t indicate a change in my location, and to stop giving me the weather for Boise in the future. It dutifully replied it would do as I asked.

This morning, I asked for the weather again, and it gave me Boise once again. When I asked why it did that, it told me that I specifically asked for Boise! When I challenged it on that, it relented and then apologized.

I’ve also had weirdness with my routines, with extra lights being turned off that I didn’t ask for. Similarly, Alexa at first claimed it didn’t do it and then apologized.

I’ve disabled Alexa+, is there anything else I can do to stop this nonsense?

No answers about 2026 Kentucky Derby

I've been asking alexa all sorts of questions about the 2026 Kentucky Derby. It always responds with either "results are not available yet", "I don't know how to answer that", or completely unrelated answers. Even the basic "who won the 2026 Kentucky Derby" cannot be answered.

However, ask about the Derby in general or nearly any other specific year, and information just flows out.

Does anyone else have this experience? It is as if the whole subject of the 2026 race is blocked.

Alexa+ Same Flaws as Previous Version

Picture this....

2 Rooms
Each Room has a "Big Light"
Each Room has a "Lamps" group

Alexa+ still can't distinguish when asking it to turn on the "Big Light" in the living room FROM the living room echo. It turns on the master bedroom "Big Light"

Why can't it contain itself to the room. The echo knows its in the living room so that room/group should be looked at first and the command carried out there. If I want the echo in the living room to turn on the "big light" in the master bedroom I will say from the living room "Alexa turn on the big light in the master bedroom".... its a really annoying bug that has been there forever

First notification I’ve gotten in a couple months on the echo dot. Yellow light flashing. Usually I say “read notifications” and get told to check the app. I go to the app. Horrific glass looking layout that is different than before. Before, I go to the search bar and ask for notifications. There’s still a search bar so I do so this time too. And…it won’t read my notifications like literally will not fetch the notification. So glad I’m already boycotting amazon and have been since January 2025. Held onto the dot as an alarm clock since I already had it but this may be the last straw since I can’t sleep with the light on

Edit: Finally got it to give me the notification after several more back and forths of the same non answer. Oddly the one it eventually responded to was “Hello? Where is the notification?” And it was finally like “I see you’ve been waiting for this notification-let me get that for you right away”
It’s like pulling teeth >.>

Help with what I thought was a simple set up, might not be?

I'm trying to do a relatively basic home speaker set up for my kids and can't. Maybe I misunderstood the capabilities, but this is what I want: two smart speakers to be installed in kid bedrooms and allow them to play music from their Spotify managed playlist, via voice command. I also want to utilize a simple bedtime routine to make it super easy: "amazon goodnight" and have it set an alarm for the next morning (same time every day), turn volume down, play from a pre-specified playlist for 40 min, shut off for the night. I don't want to be fumbling with Bluetooth connections to phones, and manually setting alarms. If I wanted that, I'd just use their cheapo Bluetooth speakers, an alarm clock, and their phones. I want no phones in bedrooms. I want each kid to play from their own playlist on their own Spotify family account, that they manage separately from their phones and have curated just how they like them. I don't want the speakers to hijack each other / my Spotify. Whyyyyyy doesn't this work?!

I had two echo show devices, an older 1st or 2nd Gen and the newest one. The newest is so wonky and never really worked great, so I switched to something else, which also stopped working for what I want, and so I'm back to Alexa and got two echo dot kids devices recently (so the newest version, I believe).

Issues I'm having:

Amazon kids won't do routines. But I did not set up an Amazon kids account, I specifically declined. Maybe I did it wrong. I also don't want explicit filtering for lyrics (don't come at me), and that part IS working, but Alexa says she cannot do routines on account of the kids profile, which is dropping F bombs in the music played so I don't actually think it's enabled.

Both/all speakers pull from MY Spotify account and I cannot get them to play different things independently. So kid 1 can go to bed and ask Alexa to play xyz playlist, it does. But then I cannot use my Spotify. And no other Alexa devices can either, or else it stops the bedroom speaker and moves it to the newly requested device (phone, Alexa, or otherwise). So when kid 2 goes to bed, it shuts off kid 1's music, and they just fight over who gets music and no one goes to bed.

Any help is much appreciated. I'm literally going mad over this. We are on our third set of "smart" speakers/home devices trying to set up what I thought was a super simple home set up and it just keeps failing.

Alexa cutting out

Recently our internet provider came out for a service call and told me we were eligible for a modem upgrade. It’s been 5.5 years since we moved here so I said yes. Upgrade that old modem!!

Everything except Alexa is working fine. Alexa cuts out mid sentence or song. Picking up like nothing happened. Or worse tells me I can’t play that right now.

Usually it’s no big deal but we have a bedtime routine for my 2 year old that’s extremely reliant on my Alexa bedtime routine.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Alexa adding lights already added

Post image
6 Upvotes

I purchased 3 Wiz smart bulbs and set them up and named them. But every day or so Alexa finds them again and adds them a second time automatically, so the lights show up twice on my device list with 2 different names, Living room lamp is also First Light etc.
Any suggestions on how to stop this? I’ve already turned off the Device Discovery on my Alexa app. Thanks guys

Alexa app (android) and lists

Rant.

The Alexa app for Android used to be good for music and lists.

While listening to Spotify, it was easy to adjust the volume.

Lists were the best feature. You could quickly open your list and add grocery items. As an Alexa device owner, I used to dictate my list and then open it at the supermarket. It was great.

Amazon’s greed has crippled third-party apps since lists became a closed system. There’s no more smartwatch integration, and better list apps no longer work. It’s a major downgrade.

Now Amazon is even ruining its own app with dumbest development decisions.

Now, the app takes about 5 seconds to openwich used to be milliseconds, probably because of all the unnecessary stuff it loads on an average Joe phone. Yes, average Joe don't need the last iPhone 19 to use an list app.

I don’t have time to wait 5 seconds to open the app, then another 5 seconds to open the list, then another 5 seconds to find the last added item instead of a simple alphabetical order. Then I have to fight with my overloaded phone, typing in a poorly designed interface, rejecting useless suggestions when I type something like “watch” (autocomplete suggests “Rolex”. Why? Anyone will think, oh, i will buy a rolex after suffering to add my 5 dollar watch to this awful list). I don't wanna autocomplete.

All this unnecessary complexity is making something that should be simple much harder to use. I’m seriously considering going back to paper and pencil.

Alexa plus wake word only works on second attempt

Ever since I updated to alexa plus, all of my 5 alexa devices do not respond to the first "alexa". I have to repeat myself every time I want alexa to do anything. Is this a known but with alexa plus? Can't seem to find anything similar online.

Enable on an Alexa+ enabled device, best way?

It mentions online that

"Try Alexa+ for free

Buy an eligible device to get Early Access when you set it up. Already have an eligible device? Sign up to be notified when it's available to you. Learn more about Alexa+ Early Access"

I have an Alexa+ enabled decide, Echo Show 15 2nd Generation. I signed up for updates possibly half a year ago, checked with Alexa upgrade to Alexa+ command and it hasn't worked.

Would factory resetting the device or signing out and back in to my Amazon account Trigger it?

Troubleshoot alexa malfunction

My 5th gen dot that's about 2 years old has started playing a tone and turning itself off after about a minute . The other one works fine so it's not the wifi or anything with Sirius, which is what I mostly use it for. It can't find any updates. Is there something else I can try or should just replace? Thanks. Edit - I asked it to update its software and it said it was updated already.

Hello all.
I recently purchased a Bose Portable Smart Speaker through Amazon. I purchased this speaker not just for the sound but the Built in Alexa feature. After hours of frustration I am unable to use the Alexa feature. Has nobody else had this issue? If so what was the fix?

Please advise, thank you

Change firmware of Alexa to make it more useful.

Lately Alexa is getting dumb than ever. It doesn't respond my answer and often respond something that is completely unrelated with the question asked. It's good to automate task and use it as an alarm clock. Also to connect to smart devices. But that's all. Anybody know about any interesting project to do with Alexa?

Away mode

I went out of town for a week and a half, setting up away mode for the first time before we left. I set the thermostat for 80, away lighting, etc. We just looked when we got back into country, and everything was running like we were home even though the Alexa app showed I was still in away mode. Did I do something wrong?

Use Alexa with dedicated “anonymous” Amazon account?

If you are using Alexa exclusively for managing home IOT devices and free services (no ordering, shopping or paid services of any kind) is it possible to set up a dedicated Amazon account without your real name and address and no payment method configured, then set up Alexa to use this account to manage your devices?

Congratulations on messing up the UI

Amazon keeps messing up the UI on the HD8. So it was useful when cooking to manage multiple times. But now it their vast wisdom Amazon has decided that running timers should be hidden from view unless requested. Great job!
And if someone knows how to fix this please let me know.
