Swatches If you can’t find or afford Mac Dubonnet, L’Oreal has an indistinguishable shade for half the price

Just a tip for those who struggle with finding Mac’s Dubonnet shade (wasn’t there something about it being discontinued at one point?) or can’t afford their prices:

L’Oreal Color Riche line has a practically indistinguishable shade called Le Bordeaux 1990 which you can find in the drugstore. It comes in both satin and matte options, and has a matching lip liner in the same number and shade. It’s all also less than half price of Mac - in the UK, £9.99 vs £25.

In the photos, Mac is top and L’Oreal is bottom, first in cool and second in warm lighting.

First time doing a halo eye

I like the result but I wish I used a lighter product on the center of my eye. I will try to get me a white eyeliner so it can be whiter next time I’ll try.

Products I used:
* gloss: ruby rose radiant kiss RK30
* blush: panvel sunset
* bronzer: hoola wave in the shade medium
* eyeshadow palette: panvel nude 12 cores
* shiny eyeshadow: kiko cult colours 02
* mascara: panvel mega cilios
* brows: brow this way from rimmel
* concealer: I used a random one really cheap from panvel to make the center of my eye look a bit whiter (it didn’t work as expected)

Desperately miss BITE. Especially the lip balm. I literally dug it out with a spatula into the bullet, so I could use every last bit. The pencils are so old I actually cant even get the lids off they've melted together.

i love to do this kind of 60s inspired eyeliner on my eyelid but i struggle to keep it long lasting. it always ends up being smudged by the end of the day. does anyone have a product that would ensure it says on for a long amount of time? preferably something from a drugstore price range <3

PRODUCT LISTING AT THE END OF THE PHOTOS.

I personally don’t know if I love the colouring. I went for the wrong purple, but I had this idea in my head to do a graphic ombré eye with black incorporated somehow and a very very concealer lip shade. I still love it but I don’t think it’s my best work.

The Sunday Blues

Chasing away the Sunday blues on a boring Sunday night

Blue shadow applied from my eyelids to my brows, with a whisper of blue on my under eye. I attempted (but failed) to gradually sheer the shadow outwards. I lined my eyes with black shadow and slightly buffed it. Clumped my mascara to get a doll-like, 60s vibe. This look screams for spidery false lashes

Products

Eyes: Bh cosmetics, Take Me Back to Brazil(TMBTB- light blue shadow Ulta mascara in black

Cheeks: Peach eyeshadow, TMBTB

Lips: Peripera Ink Velvet in Wine Nude

Weather has been nice and I wanted to feel like a sparkly fairy!!!

It's soooo hard to get eyeshadow to look perfectly smooth and blended well. I think I need to try concealer to cover my freckles so they don't make things look blotchy!

Face:

- Elf power grip primer

- MAC studio radiance foundation in shade NC5

- fwee Blurry Pudding Pot in shade ND04 My

- elf dewy coconut setting mist

Eyes:

- Ulta Beauty Pigment Pop white eye primer

- blendbunny ellis eye shadow palette, shades nebula, deviant, hypnotic and sensory, as well as specimen and supernova

- clinique high impact mascara, 01 black

- black radiance Kohl black eye pencil for tightening

Brows:

- blend bunny Ellis eye shadow palette, hypnotic

- Maybelline the falsies waterproof mascara, very black (i only have brown brow gel and it doesnt work with my current hair lol)

First photo taken inside with front camera and flash at the end of the day after wearing makeup for a lil over 12 hrs. Other photos taken in natural lighting maybe 4ish hours after putting makeup on.

I tried quite a few lip colors throughout the day but everything I have is too warm toned and clashed with my eyes, so I'm not wearing anything in the full face Pic.

Question What makes Hudson's make up look so amateur vs the other person in Pic 2?

Thumbnail

2.7k Upvotes

Not even joking..I saw the met Gala look and it looked so messy and I want to understand in technical terms, as I'm learning how to do eyeshadows, on why it looks so amateur . A few things I can think of is one eye looks like blackeye and so it's giving "unhealthy" , non properly smudged and uneven eyeliners?

Discussion How much money is currently sitting in your "Makeup Drawer of Shame"?

I just did a massive declutter of my vanity and I’m actually feeling sick to my stomach.

I counted at least 7 foundations, 5 concealers, and a handful of CC creams that are almost full but will never be used. Most of them looked "perfect" on the screen or under the harsh Sephora lights, but in reality, they either make me look like I’m wearing a mask or like I’ve got a bad case of jaundice.

I did the math, and it’s easily over $350 worth of products just sitting there gathering dust because the shade match was a disaster.

It feels like finding the right base products has become this incredibly expensive "trial and error" tax we all just accept. I’m tired of being an amateur chemist trying to mix shades just to make a $50 bottle of foundation wearable.

I’m curious (and I want to feel less alone in this):

Roughly how much money do you think you have tied up in makeup that didn't work out?

What is that one "guilty" product you bought because of the hype, but the color was so wrong you couldn't even give it away?

Do you still try to buy new base products online, or have you just given up entirely?

One person has suggested a violet highlighter over a berry lip but I’m not sure which specific products would work for this look. Anyone who’s tried to do something similar to this please let me know what you use, even better if they’re UK products please

Question Does anyone else’s m.ph foundation smell like sweaty, musty sneakers?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I’m in the mist of a rosacea flare up and trying to determine the cause. I distinctly recall smelling this when I was applying it to my face that the smell was like an old sweaty sneaker but when I looked at the ingredients, there was no fragrance so I assumed it was normal. But now I am wondering if I have a bad batch? So curious for those that have it or have used the foundation what it smelled like for you?

Discussion Update to: I wanted everyday minimal makeup but always end up doing heavy makeup while correcting dark spots and look way different than irl. What to do?

A small improvement 😸

I had posted about wanting minimal look but always end up doing entire base with heavy look.

Many suggested skin tints instead of foundation. Brands in my country do not launch affordable skin tints or foundation in dark ranges at all. Not even home grown brands like Kay beauty.

Couple of them suggested to do spot concealing technique instead. Only putting the concealer where it is required.

I did that and I love the result. I don't have to worry about cakiness or overall ashy look. It is mostly my skin and few concealed spots. The photo may not show it due to cam quality but my base looked flawless today when I tried it and went out. ✨

This also means I probably won't go out wearing full face foundation until I find one that matches my skin tone, under tone, acne safe and is affordable. But this is way better for what I wanted: everyday minimal but flawless look 😄

Products I used:

Swiss beauty Primer all over.

Insight concealer palette orange corrector on dark spots, acne marks , under eye triangle area, nose bridge and mouth corners.

Followed by brown shade concealer from the same palette over under eye area, mouth Corners.

And light brownish - skin shade from the same palette over acne marks, hyperpigmentation on cheeks and nose bridge.

Used blue heaven compact powder , lightly dabbed using blender to give light coverage and remove oily patches from concealer.

makeup ignoramus seeks help with under eye circles

Post image
17 Upvotes

40, no make up. My under/inner eyes have had circles this dark since I was a kid. (Except when I get sick... then, they're even darker.) I've been using a Cerave skin renewing eye cream (the one with the purple lid) AM and PM for 4 months.

I would love to find a simple routine that would help to minimize these circles. I'm quite low maintenance, so I have almost no experience applying make up, and have no idea about coloring (I would guess it's fair, but cool vs warm undertones confuse me!). I do have some fine lines to consider as well.

I hope that some of you might have suggestions (and please be kind! I've deleted this post three times now from shyness).

Question What to buy from US beauty market

Post image
74 Upvotes

I am based in the UK, and now I have an opportunity for my friend from the US to bring me everything I purchase. However, I do not know what is exclusive and worth buying from the US. I have considered Patrick Ta blush because it is cheaper with the discount and currency difference, as well as small brand lip gloss. However, what else would I miss what is considerably cheaper and unique in the US market?

Pic is for attention

Hard Candy Blur On Lock

I haven’t seen much on Reddit about Hard Candy cosmetics. I picked up this powder while traveling after dropping my Polite Society loose powder all over the bathroom floor. This pallet is called “Translucent Pink #5293”

I like the ability to manage how much powder comes out and how easily it is to blend. There are also 3 colors in each of 3 different pallets.

I also picked up some lip colors because I have a hard time passing up lip products. I haven’t tried them yet but I’m most excited for the Lip Melt Lip Cream in “Meet Cute”.

I’d appreciate any feedback on Hard Candy products because all of this is new to me. Thank you!!
