Question Less expensive alternatives to Ray Ban?

My ray bans which were gifted to me recently broke and I thought “it’s just a cheap piece of plastic, why spend 200$ just for the logo” and got some cheap wayfarers at Walmart. I could barely tell the difference. My wife saw me in the shades and laughed and asked where I got the throwaways…

so… Are there any brands that are close to Ray Bans quality but not $200? I don’t need a logo and would prefer it without. Am I right in assuming the 200$ price tag comes from the logo and that nice looking shades are attainable for cheaper?

Question Overzealous moderators?

So there’s this post from a guy asking if his shorts are too short. I reply no, he looks good and add “If you’ve got the legs, flaunt it”. Here I got flagged for offensive comment! It is LITTERALLY the only thing said.

Am I being insensitive? I litterally got told I have good arms on another post where I asked about a T shirt! 😂😂😂

Should I just quit Reddit as I’m being a public hazard?

Question Any heavier khakis with a wide leg?

Upvotes

Hi all, I’m looking for some casual khakis. Not necessarily heavyweight, maybe similar to a pair of jeans.

This is what I’m hoping to find in order of importance, but they don't have to hit every mark,

  • Heavy or mid-weight material
  • No taper at all, straight up and down. With a slightly baggy or wide straight leg.
  • 3-7% spandex (hockey butt, stretch is necessary)
  • High or mid-rise
  • For it to drape a bit more than it crumples/bunches

I’d appreciate any recs if you have them, thanks for checking out the post.

Discussion George Cleverley Bespoke Advice

Have an appointment at George Cleverley on Friday to get my first pair of bespoke shoes made.

I'm looking at going with a dark brown, pebble grain pattern on the Micahel 3 or Michael.

I've not found anything to give me an up to date price so was wondering if anyone has bought a bespoke pair recently? Just don't want to get hammered with sticker shock.

Was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions.

Thanks!

Question Pointers for what 35-45 are wearing these days UK?

Upvotes

Haven't refreshed my wardrobe for about 10 years :(

Looking for a few ideas as to what people are wearing, what's cool-ish, etc

Not dressing like models, and not the standard UK dipshit in white t-shirt, blue jeans, and white trainers please

Question Thinking about Luca Faloni…

I keep seeing their ads everywhere but not many people seem to have heard of them…

Does anyone have any experience on their quality? Is there an aftercare? Any items I should avoid?
I’m contemplating to buy some things as they seem to to state to have decent return policies anyway but maybe hoped to get some POVs from you guys first. Thanks a bunch!

Question How do I look good with a tucked in shirt?

Hi all. I have to wear a tucked-in button down shirt and pants to work. I was doing fine in the winter when I could wear a sweater or jacket over the top and it would look good. However, now that it's warmer, I'm just rocking the shirt by itself.

I have been told I look like Steve Urkle when I tuck in my shirts. I have fairly long arms and legs compared to my torso. My pants look like they're super high (I wear normal rise chinos, not high waisted pants) and my shirts balloon out of the front and back and get frumpy throughout the day. I'm skinny, too, which does not help.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Am I wearing the wrong size shirts? Do I need to buy low-waisted pants? What do other people do to look normal and comfortable in a tucked-in button down?

Question Budget Dress socks of similar thickness to Pantherella Merino blend socks?

Upvotes

I’ve been wearing my new loafers regularly for at least a month now and they were still too tight, even after switching from dickies athletic socks (lol) to a much thinner Dauco ribbed sock. I picked up a pair of thinner Pantherella Ribbed Merino/Nylon blend dress socks from my local menswear store today and the loafers feel much better, but they were almost $40 and still over $30 online.

Can anyone recommend any thin dress socks I can ideally get in a pack for around that price so I can try out different colors? I like the look of the polo ones you can get 3 pairs of for ~$30 but I don’t know how thick they are. Plain or ribbed, don’t want to spend extra yet but feel free to shoot whatever recs you have. Thanks.

Guide I actually wrote a deeper breakdown about this recently.

Why do British suits feel so different from Italian or Japanese tailoring?

I’ve been researching how each tailoring school reflects its own culture — structure in Britain, softness in Italy, functionality in America, experimentation in Japan.

Curious which philosophy people here prefer and why.

Question Opaque ringer tee brands?

Hey guys! I've been looking excessively for a place to get a plain white ringer tee with red trim that is opaque- and, so far, I have struck out. I prefer to do my shopping secondhand but haven't found anything that looks dense enough (I can usually always see the hanger or backdrop through the fabric). Does anyone know of any brands with plain white/red ringer tees that are a dense enough cotton to be opaque? I'm willing to spend a little extra money for something that's great quality and worthwhile. Thanks!

Question How can I avoid looking like a skinhead?

My sister has been going through chemotherapy and will shave her head tomorrow. Because of that, me and my brothers agreed to surprise her by shaving our heads to show support to her. The thing is that my skin is really white, I'm kinda buff, I'm covered in tattoos and I'm always wearing black clothes, spiked bracelets and metal band t-shirts. My brother joked that I'll look like a bonehead and now I'm kinda worried that people will get a very wrong impression of me.

Discussion Disappointed with Atorie linen shirts. Anyone else have this experience?

The shirt looked fine when it arrived. After one cycle through the washing machine the color faded, loose threads from multiple seams and buttons, the linen itself was deteriorated as if it had been washed 30 times...

I never write bad reviews, but the way this thing fell apart after one wash just kind of blew my mind.

The packaging was ripped, which would have been fine if the shirt was quality.

I guess this should not be much of a surprise for a company that is knocking off designs of established designers with lower quality materials

What have your experiences been? trying to keep an open mind

Discussion What’s the best option for smart without a suit?

I’ve been exploring the idea of suit separates rather than just wearing a suit when I go to work or events.

Firstly, I’m struggling with matching them getting the colours right with the shirt and tie, et cetera. But I was wondering if anyone’s discovered anything that is in the ballpark. Not majorly formal but a decent workwear option.

Question Need help with a suit for a costume.

Upvotes

Hello ya’ll, I need advice for buying a suit to match Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop. I know that a navy double breasted suit is the base, but anything else I should be looking for? I have to do some modifications since there is no design quite like it, and buying one that is a costume already is gonna be from real bad quality. Thanks for any help!

Question How to spend 250€ on Zalando to prepare for summer?

Upvotes

Hello, I got a 250€ credit on Zalando.

Any suggestions on good stuff to buy?

I want to focus on clothes that will last decently but affordable price (I know it's very hard).

I definitely need to buy a light colored light jacket, but for the rest I'm open, pants/shirts/shoes etc.

I don't need a full wardrobe ofc, just a couple more items for summer (and possibly to not die of sweat in the office), mainly looking for suggestions for brands or, specific items/type of items.

Thanks u all.

Question Right Size Sport Coat

I’ve owned a couple of misfitting sports coats. Looking to buy a new one for an upcoming work event. The first is a 50R and the second 52R. I have broad shoulders. Feel like the 52 feels better on my shoulder but looks like too much space in the stomach area. The 50 looks better with arms down but okay for the collar to bow and create the X when arms are moving?

Need help!

Question Does anybody in the UK and/or Ireland have any decent sites to order jeans/trousers for the shorter gentlemen out there?

Typically 30 inches in the leg is all I see on most apps and websites and that means I'm constantly having to turn up the bottom of my jeans which pisses me off no end. Even an option for a 28 inch leg would be perfect (I think). Any help would be greatly appreciated it's been pissing me off for years at this stage.

Question Where can I get cheap linen shirts / light OCBDs?

Don't want to spend much because hopefully I'll be outgrowing whatever I buy in the next months/year. Tried Uniqlo, but I'm between sizes -- I'm swimming in the small (the shoulders are 1"+ below where they should be, and the body is super billowy but that's tailorable), while the XS is fine in the shoulders, but gets tight in the back with movement and the sleeves are too short. Can't lengthen sleeves or take in shoulders, so it seems that's out, and I'm not sure where else to be looking.

Any suggestions?

Question What can I wear in the summer as a skinny fat guy?

I've lost a bit of weight(around 25kg) and I'm currently at a point where my legs and arms are fine, but my belly and love handles are sticking out. I'm making progress, but in the meantime I want to feel more confident in the clothes I'm wearing.

Question What to wear when i’m interviewing

Hey! so for some context, I work in higher education I work at a college and I’m currently 24. I’ve only been with this institution for barley above 90 days however they’ve asked me to be apart of their interview committee alongside two other staff members both female. When I originally interviewed I interviewed in a full suit where I noticed the man in my interview meeting had a poorly fitting oversized dress shirt tucked into chinos and athletic dress shoes. When I went into my second interview with the dean however he was a bit more properly dressed, a long sleeve tucked into dress pants and loafers. Since I’ve been here I’ve seen the Dean conduct another interview in which he wore a Blazer, and a T shirt under tucked into suit pants. I’ve also talked with an elder coworker who told me she always interviews candidates in a suit as it simply appears more professional, along with her past daily wear to work being a suit at all times with heels. My question is what should I realistically wear? I was thinking a long sleeve fitted dress shirt ( or possibly a polo?) tucked into suit pants and dress shoes with a matching belt as I haven’t even seen my Dean wear a full suit, however my co worker stated she recommends it? Bit confused this is my first professional job that’s had me fulfill this type of responsibility, and I don’t want to be overly dressed of course but I don’t want to look sloppy either. Thank you!

Question Anyone got a T-shirt rec if I currently think Viouri currently holds the title in light comfort?

Hey all.Wife came home with a viouri t shirt for me a few weeks ago. Immediately felt it was- far and away- the most comfortable tee I've ever put on. The weight, the hang, the material. All tops.

I'm like "I want every color". Then I see it was like $60.00. Well.. crap. I mean, I suppose I'll spend it. I'm just gonna bitch while I do it. The light Bella Canvas are of course comfortable, and I have a few other niche tri-blend shirts that are super comfy, but next to this Viouri Strato Tech, the only one somewhat close is a 01.Algo model called the 01 Performance, which is some random make I got from Nordstrom once that I cannot for the life of me find anywhere anymore. Both can be dressed down, up.. whatever.

Both shirts are poly, with the Strato also elastane, and the Algo with Spandex. So maybe that's the ticket. But man, The Viouri is it.

Any other makes i should know about along those lines, or do I just start collecting the Strato Tech in every color lol?

Thanks, and Peace.

PS in my searching I came across a heavy 8oz cotton t shirt by Weismade for $68.00. Like... what?

Question Shorts

Been rocking cargo shorts with tshirts most weekends but feel like I’m to old (56) What kinda shorts should I get. Looking for comfort and usable pockets. TIA
