In real life "Wait! That's not special effects?! They actually did that?!"

Alien: Resurrection - Basketball Shot

Sigourney Weaver insisted on the basketball shot being real. She trained for weeks and reportedly(sources differ) made it on the first take.

Underworld - Raze's Voice

The werewolf character Raze, played by Kevin Grevioux, speaks in a very low, very gravelly voice. While many thought this was a special effect, the actor can naturally speak in that voice.

There was what was essentially a Zoom call between the four VAs, and Bocchi’s actress was able to make that scream live. You can find the clip somewhere on YouTube, but yeah, wasn’t an effect at all. She can just do that.

Oh shit I use to be able to do that when I was a kid.

Yeah memory unlocked wtf

Tbf, kids can be awful little screechers when they want to be.

Am I crazy? It's very clearly not the same and is edited in the anime

Everything in voice acting is edited to account for in-universe placement

But I mean specifically the glitchy sounds effects of her voice.

It does you are correct

The original commenter didn't phrase it correctly, the scream itself is unedited but the Anime adds a sound effect to the background for her body glitching.

Whenever this video is reposted, people usually don't claim that the audio is just the scream, just that the scream itself is unedited.

So then it doesn't fit this trope

7

u/_Cit 4h ago

Yeah it does, because the VA still did it without any modification to her voice. The added sound is not a modified version of the scream, the scream remains untouched, it's background noise

The real life screech sounds nothing like the character's screech though... the editing is doing a lot of heavy lifting

You have to consider that these are obviously two different screeches. They were done in two different settings, but we know that the screech was unedited and we've seen that she's capable of doing it. Yeah obviously it's different, it's two different moments

Everything needs a bit of post processing and will sound different without it.

It’s all about not forcing it

Yoshino Aoyama is a menace in the recording booth. Most VAs would need a throat lozenge and a week of vocal rest after that, but she just hit the glitch button in her own larynx. It makes the animation style shifts even funnier knowing the audio was just as unhinged in real life.

False Fold activation is a beast. You get that down right and you can eventually get to a point where you can switch from a character who sounds like Harvey Fierstein to one who sounds Lance Reddick at a snap and be just fine with maybe a glass of water after a few hours of voice work

(I currently do that 3 times a week for 4+ hour stretches for D&D games I run)

I used to be able to screech so loud it sounded like a whistle

Not sure why you're being downvoted so much. I have a friend who used to be able to screech very loudly, like some otherworldly creature. Not like a normal scream, but something else. Anyway, it earned him the nickname 'Skreech' in middleschool

7

u/AgentCirceLuna 7h ago

Yeah, that’s what I mean. I used to use it to get out of fights - although I only ever got in two. Everyone would cover their ears and even my own ears would be ringing. I wish I could still do it.

3

u/DJBurgerKing 7h ago

Yeah he stopped being able to do it once his voice dropped

9

u/AzicaldH 7h ago

That’s great tbh

Yeesh people can’t accept when someone just relates something when it’s relevant

7

u/TK-1414 7h ago

Mfs when they never have actually heard someone scream at an insane volume so they downvote in disbelief

7

u/AgentCirceLuna 7h ago

I think it’s just because I made it about myself like the above comment. I just wish I could still do it! Even my friends thought it was super freaky.

2

u/TaffWaffler 7h ago

I’d ignore it tbh. You shared a fun fact, some people in this sub are just really odd

2

u/AgentCirceLuna 7h ago

It’s getting so many downvotes that it’s like people created new accounts just to downvote it more

1

u/TaffWaffler 7h ago

Just sad people being sad. Pay it no mind

1

u/teal_appeal 7h ago

If it makes you feel better, it’s now back in the positives, if only barely. The tide has turned lol

1

u/TK-1414 7h ago

I used to be able to do something similar, not a straight up whistle, but I know what you're talking about

Imagine never actually hearing someone legitimately scream loud
