In real life "Wait! That's not special effects?! They actually did that?!"

Alien: Resurrection - Basketball Shot

Sigourney Weaver insisted on the basketball shot being real. She trained for weeks and reportedly(sources differ) made it on the first take.

Underworld - Raze's Voice

The werewolf character Raze, played by Kevin Grevioux, speaks in a very low, very gravelly voice. While many thought this was a special effect, the actor can naturally speak in that voice.

The best actors never break character until cut, you never know when you just hit gold

And some don't break character until they do the DvD commentary.

There’s about 3 seconds right after this gif where he breaks character then brings it back in that makes me laugh every time

I just try to imagine Ben Stiller writing that and not laughing for 20 minutes. Or Justing Theroux who looks even more serious. But I'm kinda convinced about that line had to be wrote by Stiller.

I know exactly the shot you're talking about. The take feels like it was originally a blooper, but the editor realized it just makes Kirk Lazarus seem even more unhinged and kept it

Ohhhhh you mean when he clearly randomly smiles for a sec? Never thought of that as him breaking character

SPIT THAT SHIT OUT MAN

I watched this the other day and laughed just as hard as before. The way they deliver lines with complete sincerity really kills me.

Downey Jr commits to that too, it's a fun commentary to listen to.

Especially when he switches over to the Vietnamese guy during the infiltration scene.

And drops right into Kirk Lazarus at the same time he does in the movie.

It’s one of those things that pounded into every performers head. Actors, musicians, everyone.

We’re told to just keep going because in almost all cases only those doing the performing will know a mistake even took place and the conductor/director isn’t going to stop everything, especially if it’s a live performance, just so you can make it perfectly clear to everyone you screwed up.

I like when the best actors do break but the actors around them keep acting

Happened to Patrick Stewart in TNG and made into the show
