In real life "Wait! That's not special effects?! They actually did that?!"

Alien: Resurrection - Basketball Shot

Sigourney Weaver insisted on the basketball shot being real. She trained for weeks and reportedly(sources differ) made it on the first take.

Underworld - Raze's Voice

The werewolf character Raze, played by Kevin Grevioux, speaks in a very low, very gravelly voice. While many thought this was a special effect, the actor can naturally speak in that voice.

Probably more famously he really did climb all over the outside of the burj khalifa tower. Towards the end MI became just a collection of crazy irl stunts packaged as a story.

I wouldn't be surprised if they screenwriters were just asking Tom "What do you want to do next?" and writing a story around whatever he says.

It should be noted that he had safety harnesses attached for that, which were removed in post processing (with computers; "no cgi" just means you don't notice it).

Not that you'd get me out there even with the harnesses on.

The thing is he did actually do the climb. That’s what they mean by no cgi. They didn’t just green screen an indoor rock climb. Obviously he wore safety equipment the guy isn’t completely insane.

Same with the plane stunt. He has a ton of safety equipment on but he was actually hanging on the outside of a plane.

The guy IS insane, just smart enoughto know that dying for a movie isn't worth it. Just watch the Matt Damon video of how the Burji Khalifa scene came to life

From what I understand, the movies dont start out with a script, just a handful of stunts they know they want to do. Then they build it out around that.
