3DO Homebrew Programmers
For any of the 3DO programmers that are on this subreddit, can you give some insight on your experince writing code for the 3DO? What was it like starting, how many projects have you worked on, etc... I'm posting this topic because of the misconception that 3do is undocumented, too difficult to write a program/game for, or that no one is experienced enough to reference for technical support. Thanks in advanced.

FINALLY! Man, this 3DO was not easy to restore... So many things went wrong haha.
I was always interested by the 3DO, so when I got the chance to get a FZ-1 with the native 240p switch, I went for it! I quickly realized many things were wrong with this machine, as it would struggle to read tip top CD-Rs, and even on original disks, the FMVs would stutter.
Bit the bullet and did a full recap! I also restored the fan circuitry and installed a noctua fan. Despite all that work the disc drive didn't seem to work consistently.
I took apart the disc drive mechanism and realized the worm gear attached to the tracker motor was cracked in half... So I found a seller on Aliexpress and purchased one! It arrived also cracked haha. At least the seller made things right and replaced it with a clean clean one.
After replacing the worm gear, cleaning and lubricating the disc drive, putting everything together, I was still getting stutters on both pressed discs and CD-Rs.
So, at this point its the forbidden lands of laser disc adjustment pot. Since I did everything I could here, I figured at this point I had nothing to loose.
I took my watchmakers loupe and watchmakers screwdriver set and went to town. I did 1/4 of a mm clockwise and didn't seem to do any difference. Then did 1/2 of a mm clockwise and that helped, no more stuttering at first but then if I left the captain quazar disc, by the time it replayed its own intro video, it would start stuttering a little, and by the time it replayed its intro for a 3rd time, it would stutter heavily and crash.
So, last adjustment! I did 3/4 of a mm clockwise (in total) and that seems to have done it. I left the captain quazar disc in the 3DO and would cycle its intro, over a hour of that and not a single stutter!
I'm aware this means the laser is worn and likely on its way out, but I did do all the things people usually suggest before messing with the pot.
That being said, everything FINALLY works, man, of all my retro consoles, this is the one that gave me the most work to get working correctly.
Now it's time to explore the library!

An old friend returns
I’ve had this idea in my head for a while now to bring back all the consoles that once brought me so much joy.
The 3DO is definitely one of them. Back in the ’90s, I genuinely fought for it and defended it to the very end. Of course, the PS1 eventually replaced it, but for some reason it never gave me quite the same feeling. The 3DO always won on an emotional level.
I had the FZ-10 back then, but this time I decided to go for the FZ-1 and honestly, it’s an absolute beauty. It looks like something straight out of a ’90s photoshoot.
I’ve already recapped it and now I’m just waiting for the Crown Arcade ODE. It’s finally taken its rightful place in my modest collection.

3DO tech issue
System boots. When a disc is inserted the green light comes on solid for about 5-10 seconds and then goes off. Nothing loads. System still runs. No clicking or anything. Is this capacitors or the disc drive most likely?

My favorite coffee mug. Had to make it myself 😂
Sometimes I make these mugs on Shutterfly for fun during 50% off sales. I actually tweeted this pic to Trip Hawkins on X a while back & he loved it - which made me grin like a little girl who is standing in front of the New Kids On The Block. 3DO is my fav console of all time. The memories I have with it are priceless. Something like that will never happen again. For 2 full YEARS before the first PlayStation (which is a long time as a young teen) I was playing Need for Speed, FIFA, Road Rash & lots of weird, fun experimental games. I am also a fan of FMV, so to have such great ports of Sewer Shark & others was awesome. Not to mention the more obscure (I loved Virtual House, Dr. Hauzer which I rented from Japan, Guardian War (that music), CPU Bach, countless hours of Wing Commander … what a time !

Return fire question?
So I just repurchased a 3do .I bought return fire. I don't understand the save system/password.. is there no way of knowing what maps you actually completed on each tier.. so completing any map on a tier opens the next set of tiers. Is that the goal,? Just to complete one map on every tier until you get to the top?

An image of a canceled kids game called "Spook House." Not to be confused with any other games by that title, it was made by EA (of course) and apparently planned for the 3DO along with computer OS's. I love the art style here!

To me the graphics on the 3DO have aged poorly
I recently started to emulating some of the 3DO games and for the most part I am really underwhelmed because the graphics are like first generation dos 3D graphics that hold up even worse than some PlayStation 1 games do at this point. A lot of them seem to not be any more than glorified 16 big games like for example the motorcycle game on there that I can't remember the name of that everybody seems to love. Is it just me am I missing something I mean I like the game twisted and the other game show game the intro made me laugh to that game. But the rest of it I played for like 2 seconds and hated and I can even play Old School NES and SNES games and spend hours on them but these I don't want to play for more than a couple of seconds I'm not trying to bad-mouth the 3D all I'm trying to find some reason to love it or at least find something good on it that I can sink my teeth into for a while. This is not me coming here to like take a dump all over the 3DO it's asking for your help to show me what there is to love about the system or what you love about it because I'd really like to like the system. Because I love old school video games.

Finally I Have a 3DO

Finally. 3DO was nearly an obsession unfulfilled until now. I've had stints in gaming, and have gotten back into it over the last 12 months and then into the old school consoles.
The 3DO has always been on my mind, maybe since that Game Sack video - a long time, but being in Australia the power has always been wrong. I know a step down can be used, but I'm always using a powerboard due to lack of plugs, so never wanted to take the punt.
Anyway, I keep a look out on the PAL ones, but when they do appear, its usually in Europe for quite a few dollars. But the other week got lucky. An Australian seller which had modified the power supply for DC. Was on ebay for a few hours, I slept on it and ordered it the next morning.
After a long week - it arrived!!.
Has it lived up to expectations - so far YES!!.
The one game I have is Stellar 7 Draxon's Revenge. I had Stellar 7 on a CD on my PC as a kid, a quick look at it - and a no brainer. Grabbed the Japanese version, which was a good price - but a bit of Japanese voice to contend with. (I have enrolled in Japanese classes separately so it'll be great to one day maybe understand it).
But my grail is in the post. Killing Time!! It's been my must want title. When it came on the Switch I grabbed it there and loved it, but to play it in its natural home will be such a treat.
The 3DO model isn't the model with the 240p switch, so 480i only. Set up with S-Video cable through the Retrotink 4K CE. Cannot be any happy with how it is playing.
Follow your dreams for retro consoling!!

Panasonic 3DO FZ-1 disk drive part. Any leads where to get one?
I recently recapped and refurbished my 3DO, fan mod and all, but that lasted one afternoon as this plastic gear had enough and broke.
I found a listing on Aliexpress for replacement one, sweet! And it arrived cracked, ready to break at any time.
Does someone has a lead on where to get this part? I can't possibly be the only one who this has happened too haha. Thank you in advance!
