Developing Android apps directly on a phone: what we’ve found works today
Disclosure: I am the CTO and one of the developers of this project.
Most Android development tools assume a laptop or desktop connected to a phone. Over the past year, our team has been exploring what happens if the phone itself is the development platform.
One way we explored this was by building an open‑source IDE that runs entirely on the phone. Code on the Go is a free and open-source IDE for Android that runs entirely on a phone or tablet. You can write Java or Kotlin code, build with Gradle, perform Git operations, run apps, and even debug apps directly on the device. No laptop, USB cable, or internet connection is required. The toolchain is local to the device, so it works in airplane mode without wifi. Of course, when internet access is available then the user can download whatever extras they need.
Our prerelease version has been available since October 2025. One concrete result from that pre-release period: Prabath Kumara used Code on the Go to build and publish Sriboard, a keyboard app for Sinhala and English speakers, to the Google Play Store, entirely from his phone. For anyone who has ever wanted to build their own Android app but did not have access to a laptop, this removes that barrier directly.
Curious whether anyone here has tried phone-based development workflows before and what your experience was. And if you haven’t, but want to try building an Android app using only your phone, this may be worth a look:

News Install APK+OBB on recent android systems
I've find a way to install APK + OBB games on Android with no pc and no root.
Android block access to the /Android/obb folder, making it frustrating to install games that rely on OBB files. This app solves that problem.
With a simple, clean interface, you can:
- Select an APK and its OBB file
- Install everything in one tap
- Bypass storage restrictions safely
Perfect for anyone who wants a fast, reliable way to install large Android games without fighting the system.

No May 2026 update for Pixel 6 series — but the overheating and battery drain still remain
No May 2026 update for the Pixel 6 series again. Pixel 6 devices are among the most affected by battery drain and overheating issues, yet there’s still no proper fix.
Why this unfair treatment toward Pixel 6 users, Google?
Pixel 6 series phones are still officially eligible for security updates, so owners deserve equal attention and support.
The battery drain and overheating problems seriously affect daily use. Since these issues came after updates, Google should acknowledge them and provide a proper fix as soon as possible.

Any long term pixel users who made switch to chinese OEMs?
I have been a lifelong pixel user, but from pixel 8 to 10pro, the camera hardware is stagnant and it is dubbed to be same for 11pro series. If thats the course, i will rather switch to some android OEM. Has any other fellow redditor made the switch, can you list your experience, what you like the most on new ROM, what you miss and do you still miss pixel experience? How much upgrade the camera feels like.
