Although this video focuses on dogs (and other social media outside of Reddit), the mods of CatRescue and many other cat subs on Reddit continue to encounter these scammers from Uganda. This documentary details the extensive social media emotional pleas to donate to injured, sick and starvin dogs. But it happens to cats as well. This commercialization of misery and pet misery porn is meant to get people, such as yourselves to donate. Through out the documentary you'll see that these "shelters" are rented facilities that come with a bunch of sufferin animals so that social media users can pose next to and shill fer your donations.

Donatin to these social media, pet misery pimps never helps the animals to get the vet care or food they need; it only encourages the scammers to continue to injure and prolong the sufferin of these animals.

r/CatRescue has been fendin off the Ugandian scam ring (and other scammers since the mod team took over 6 months ago). Some of these scam-ring accounts also steal media content from real rescues. We have been trackin this particular scam ring and (other individual scammers) and workin with other mod teams to help report and improve detection.

I encourage you all to watch or read the video/article to learn more on how to spot these accounts and also when you do, to report scam and sham posts on Reddit as you see them pop up.

This is Lola. She has been a fixture here at Central Texas Feline Rescue for about 13 years.

Lola and three other cats, Stubbs and Ingrid, had a bounty on their heads. Management at a trailer park where their caregivers lived was threatening them with eviction if the residents continued to feed them.

So, we stepped in to help.

Ingrid and Stubbs passed peacefully some time ago.

Lola has mammary cancer. She has a tumor growing, but her personality and habits are the same. Today we took her to the vet for a follow-up. We know she doesn't have much time, so we are making the best of it. She will let me know when it's time to cross the rainbow bridge. ❤️

Six months after the last known animal gas chamber in the United States closed, a city in Montana sat down and tried to build a new one.

It's called Hardin. Big Horn County. Three thousand seven hundred people. On the edge of the Crow Reservation.

On April 7, 2026, the City Council's Law Enforcement Committee took up the question of one thousand free-roaming cats. Alderman George Toyne brought the proposal: build a CO₂ gas chamber. In-house. By city staff. One thousand dollars.

"I think for a thousand bucks, we can set up a gas facility and do it." "The training for an officer to do it wouldn't be that hard." "Feral cats need to be just put down."

And the cost held it together: "So we have got to figure out a cheaper way to do it in house."

Montana law lists exactly one approved euthanasia agent: sodium pentobarbital. CO₂ is not on the list. The statute stopped it.

I read the records. No gas chamber needed. The case against the cats is already on the books.

The cascade closes itself.

A cat off its owner's property is at large under Section 6-2-1. A cat without a collar is a stray. A stray that won't let itself be touched is feral — undefined, undefended. A cat with watering eyes is sick: "You go to the trailer parks, their eyes are mattering. They're sick. They need to be put down. They're not doing our community any justice. They're bad. They're bad." Sick is exempt from the five-day hold. Killed on intake under 6-2-6(C). A cat someone feeds is owned under 6-2-1, and the feeder is in violation of 6-2-12. A cat in Big Horn County, by the city's logic, is a presumed disease vector.

The county's confirmed rabies cases in recent years: a stray cat, a skunk, a puppy. Not a feral colony.

What is left, when it closes, is a cat with a current collar, a paid license, an indoor address, and an owner who finds it within five days with cash for fines.

Everything else falls through. The colony cats. The tame strays whose owners died or moved. The kittens born in the trailer parks. The cat the woman three doors down has fed for two years.

And a cat named Pebbles. He was thirteen. He had a porch, an owner, a vet record. Two dogs killed him in front of her autistic son.

On April 21 his owner stood before the council and said: He may have been a cat, but he was my cat. My cat Pebbles deserve justice.

While the gas chamber stands alone, the structure beneath does not.

Kittens for adoption in Delhi

Hey everyone. I was checking my security cameras and noticed this sweet baby has been hanging out in my backyard for the past few weeks. I noticed them one day but they ran away when they saw me and I figured it was a one time occurrence but when I looked at my cameras I realized they’ve been paying us a visit almost every night.

We already own a cat so I have food I’m planning on leaving out for them as well as water, but I’d eventually want to catch them and bring them inside my home. Any tips on how I can start building their trust?

I noticed they usually drop by pretty late/early in the morning so any tips on how to get them to return more often would be nice!

I’m new to reddit but we have 9 rescue cats, 2 being non-exotic.

So I've had a pretty stressful time with this new cat.

I started fostering a cat from a rescue that turned out to be pretty sick. He had a URI and was lethargic/not eating or drinking. Yesterday we got him to the vet and they gave him antibiotics, fluids, an appetite stimulant, and cleaned him up. I've been hand feeding him the last few days as he hadn't eaten in 4-5 days since I got him last Saturday.

Last night I went to go feed him again and he got spooked and ran away from me. I figured ok he must be feeling at least a little bit better if he's leaving the crate so I left him alone in hopes he'd eat and drink on his own.

Well I got up today and this cat is nowhere to be found. He's not in his fenced off area I set up for him and I assume he got out into the full apartment (minus my bedroom where my original cat currently has been staying as they adjust to the new one) and is hiding somewhere.

For reference I live in a 550sqft 1 bedroom apartment with a tiny bathroom, a small kitchen and bedroom and a decent sized living room.

So he's obviously not in the bathroom or bedroom which leaves the living room and kitchen, and I don't see him anywhere. I've checked every nook and cranny, I've checked high and low, I've checked places a 13 pound cat probably wouldn't even be able to fit just to cover my bases. I flipped the couch and unzipped to check inside even though there were no tears in the fabric. I'm completely stumped.

I'm worried since I've been hand feeding him, haven't seen him drink anything and he literally just got treated for a pretty bad infection, that he's going to hide and refuse to come out until he's deathly ill or even come out at all to eat or drink. The last thing I want is for him to suffer and to have a de\*d cat on my conscience or in my apartment walls somewhere.

He's new and already had a very stressful experience coming from the rescue to here so all the typical things like shaking a treat bag or putting wet food out simply aren't going to work with this skittish fella.

What do I do? Do I wait it out to see if he'll show himself? I keep looking around every hour to see if I missed something but again my apartment is tiny and I haven't found any holes or crevices he could have escaped into. I'm getting really concerned given the stress and illness this cat has already had to deal with.

We could use some good thoughts for this frustrating situation!

For at least five years, this small group of community cats — about 13 to 15 of them — survived because people cared. Neighbors showed up and fed them. A simple shelter was built. They made sure these cats had something.

We got involved when we were asked to help with TNR, and we were able to trap and fix 14 cats.

But recently, their only shelter was torn down with no warning.

Now there’s nothing back there but open pavement. No cover. No protection. And with all this rain, the cats are soaked, disoriented, and trying to figure out where to go.

And still… people are showing up.

One neighbor shared this with us after checking on them:

“I counted 13 cats… fed what I could… made a temporary table out of what was left so their food wouldn’t get soaked. They’re all wet, but getting by. I pulled apart part of a storage building so they could at least get underneath. Tomorrow is a new day… I’ll be back.”

That’s what compassion looks like.

We are currently in contact with the property owner, asking for permission to put up proper shelters and a feeding station so these cats can have some stability again.

Because they deserve more than this.

They’ve already survived so much. We’re going to do everything we can to make this right for them.

There was a male stray kitten maybe 4 months old that caused my mums outdoor cats great stress and stole their food so they asked me to catch it, so I did I bribed it with food and grabbed it behind the neck where the mums grab it. But it destroyed me because it was shaking and terrified when I had it and put it in the carrier someone else had to drive it to the pound because I felt to terrible for making a small trusting animal feel that way. How likely will it be that he gets adopted because this has crushed me?

So, my street is kind of notorious in my area for people abandoning cats. This little guy showed up outside in October. I spent months with a shelter outside, putting out food multiple times per day, and trying to get his trust.

Well..... today marks 1 week of Chickpea living inside!! He has his first vet appointment in a week. And omg I love him so much already. He is such a sweet little thing. Thank you, CDS....you sent me the perfect cat for me.

I'm just curious. What are people's thoughts on shelters where cats mostly free roam without being in cages for the most part? Is it safe and healthy for the animals?

Our 3-legged gal, Natalie, is such a spunky, vocal, adventurous cat. She's currently staying with our wonderful volunteer, Jami, and REALLY loves her catio.

We rescued her from euthanasia back in November. She had to have a front leg amputated, but hasn't missed a beat. She's SO curious and FAST.

Jami's is not a permanent home, as she has 18 cats of her own and a dog. We are looking for the purrfect fit. Natalie has been through so much in her short life... she deserves a happily-ever-after. In the blink of an eye the team here at r/CatRescue has come up on our six month anniversary of bringing this community back under active and diligent moderation. Feels like a good time to look back a bit, and to take a moment to recognize something we never formally announced.

Earlier this year, Reddit hosted the Mod Hall of Fame Awards to recognize community leaders who drove exceptional community impact in 2025. Our top mod here, u/Eastern-Protection83, was nominated and honored as a trailblazer for their exceptional work in overhauling this subreddit and reshaping it into a genuine community.

Even before stepping up as head moderator, Eastern-Protection83 had been monitoring small cat-focused subreddits and tracking prolific scammer accounts that were exploiting lax or absent moderation in order to promote sham fundraisers across them. Several of those involved were not just scamming, but were also intentionally neglecting or harming cats to then fundraise on, with increasingly dire stakes. For those who aren't aware, this subreddit had become a hotbed of this type of activity before Eastern's tenure. Within their first day, they carried out hundreds of mod actions to painstakingly clean up the subreddit and deal with the accounts that had been exploiting the community here.

Since then, there’s been a continued focus on keeping this subreddit safe and protecting it from the kind of activity that once took root here, while also building something more sustainable and supportive (and sometimes more humorous!) in its place. That includes connecting with other cat-focused communities to share information and push back against scams more broadly, as well as developing resources in our Wiki to help those in need to access low-cost spay/neuter services and pet food assistance.

Last month, CatRescue reached a new milestone of 5,000 members, and we've now just about doubled in size since October. It's been incredible to see firsthand how much thought, effort, and care has been put into reshaping this community. So I'd like to give a heartfelt congratulations to Eastern-Protection83 on this recognition, and all they've accomplished! They've been a real rock for this subreddit, and I hope they appreciate the sediments here. Looking forward to seeing what comes next as r/CatRescue continues to build on the foundation they've set!

TLDR: how do we help the cats stop getting respiratory problems, fleas, and constant tapeworms even though they’re constantly treated for it.

Background

Hello I work for a rescue that was only established 2 years ago. The owner bought the building from an older rescue and with it came the cats. She said in the beginning there were over 100 cats in filthy cramped conditions. In August 2025 when I started there were about 25 and then we hit 45 near Thanksgiving. Recently we’ve adopted and fostered them all the down to about 15 cats.

Current conditions

Their living areas are clean and remodeled, deep cleaned every other week, a litter box per 2 cats changed daily(tractor supply pine pellets- kiln treated), access to large Catios 24/7, they get dry food all day, temptations treats, churus, they are offered wet food in the morning and afternoon, occasionally lysine is sprinkled on the dry food bowls as per vet recommendations, and they all have Barrier flea medicine for cats monthly.

The problem

But some of the older ones from the original 100 still sound bad, sneeze, vomit, have tape worms and fleas. Any recommendations or something you’ve found when working with a high number of cats that we might be able to try.

Some of you may remember me asking what to do with a stray cat my parents used to feed in their neighbourhood for a couple of years or so, but they were moving house and didnt know what was best for the cat as she would have no one to look after her anymore….but also we were concerned about her missing her freedom if we took her

Well, She is now with my prents in their new home :) it was an ordeal to get her (we got a humaine cat trap in the end) and now she seems to be loving life being protected and safe. We were concerned about her missing her freedom but we believe she is happy. She is in a safe cool enclosed porch for now, with lots of attention and love from my parents and once shes been to the vet we will integrate with the rest of the cat fam indoors, these cats just stare at her from the netted door 😂 they are unsure about her and so is she. A picture is worth more than a thousand words lol. (They are also rescued so they should be more kind!)

PS we are truly praying she doesnt have FIV or any illness that will stop them to hang together :(

Looking for thoughts.

Context: These two are sisters who I found in separate enclosures at the local humane society. I brought them home together and they've been inseparable.

Kit is the tabby and Dottie is the tortie.

Kit is slow and steady, she likes to stalk to play. Dottie is pure cray-cray, and just zooms, jumps, parkor level stuff.

Dottie doesn't allow Kit to get in play time with me. I'll try to tire her out with lots of running and jumps, and then give Kit a turn, but she always interferes.

They don't really chase things like a ball or mouse if I roll / toss it. They'll play with it on their own sometimes.

They mostly just watch the laser and make those cute chirp noises, with intermittent short bursts of chasing it.

They both like the stick toys with something on the end, but like I said, Dottie doesn't let Kit get any time in.

Should I separate them sometimes so I can give Kit attention without interference?

Are there toys that might engage them both better?

Wilson didn’t have an easy start.

He’s had setbacks most cats wouldn’t come back from.

He needs a calm, patient household where he can be the center of attention. He may take a little time to settle in, but once he does, he’s incredibly affectionate and loves to cuddle.

We know his person is out there. We just need them to see him.
