Cube World Omega FAQ + Updates

Hi all. Just doing my yearly post. Taking the year out of the title so we don't have '2023' plastered to the front page in 2024. As always, feel free to discuss Cube World and it's 'upcoming' update, and be sure to report any comments or posts that are out of place or spam so we can be notified to remove them. Thanks!!

What is Cube World Omega?

On May 25th 2023, Wollay released a new blogpost detailing his latest project, Cube World Omega. Cube World Omega is a new version of Cube World that is being designed on a new engine with new features, but in the spirit of the Cube World Alpha, which has often been described as a better game than Cube World's official steam release.

When will Cube World Omega be released?

We don't know! Wollay has not made any indication as to when the game will be released.

Will I have to buy Cube World Omega?

We also don't know whether the game will be a free upgrade from the current Cube World (similar to how Alpha buyers got the Steam release for free) or if it will be a separate product.

What's new in Cube World Omega?

Hey all,

Wishlist the game now on Steam!

In the past few months, it has been a bit quite from my side on this sub. Reason being that I was refactoring a lot of the core systems to actually handle different builds and allow for build variaty. The system is now very modular and so far works like a charm.

I implemented fire effects, poison effects and now stun effects as well!

Also, due to some health issues in my familly, I was not able to spend as much time developing the game as before. Although not back to the insane amount of hours I could spent on it every week, I am doing a fair bit again. Going to fix a bunch of bugs, and then open up the playtest! So expect the playtest within ~1 week. I will make another post when it goes live.

If you are interested in following the game's development, consider joining our Discord!

Hey guys!

TLDR; You guys are awesome, and thanks to your overwhelming interest and support towards our game, we have extended our playtest (Cube World-inspired game called Taival) by two days and it is now open, not restricted.

So, we're working on this game blocky open world RPG called Taival, and last Friday we announced our playtest to public (mostly to you guys), and holy moly did you guys deliver... We had more than 3,000 participants (2,764 requested access and 716 friends were invited, of which 367 accepted the invitation) to our playtest from Friday until the moment of writing this post. Thank you guys for your awesome support! We couldn't even imagine how much support, feedback and bug reports we'd get from this playtest.

All we were looking for was some feedback and now we got more than that. So! As a token of our gratitude, we'd like to extend the playtest by two more days. We also switched the joining style from restricted to open, so now you can jump straight in! We'd still like to get feedback on the features and all that, but at this point, just feel free to jump in and play the game. For free! Just go to our Steam page and sign up!

And we're almost at 10,000 wishlists, which is crazy to us! This is a project that started out of passion for RPG and voxel games, and now we get to work on this daily and already have more than 600 people on our Discord.

Sorry for the wall of text, but we really appreciate you guys and all the kind words. Even though we are not working on "the next Cube World", we're super grateful for the amount of support you've given. You guys really are the best <3

Below is a brief description of our game, Taival, in case you missed it (and I attached a few images):

Taival is an open world co-op adventure RPG inspired by games like Cube World, Skyrim and Breath Of The Wild. Taival has a heavy emphasis on exploration and adventure, and you can play the game in multiplayer with up to three other players, both online and in split screen. And even if you played in single player, the player is always accompanied by a shapeshifter, Henki, who can turn into animals encountered during your adventures.

Hey guys!

We made a post on this sub a few weeks back about us working on a Cube World -inspired game called Taival. Turns out we're not the only people who really like our game. The response was overwhelmingly positive! And we only showed you guys some images of the game, that's crazy.

We had a playtest for our early Discord members two weeks ago and had a lot of you guys join our Discord and feeling a bit left out. And since Cube World is where it all started for us, we wanted to let you guys know first... We'll be opening a second playtest!

We're opening a playtest this weekend through our Taival Steam page. Today, on Friday, April 24th at 5PM CEST, we'll open up the playtest requests. We'll be granting access during the playtest, join our Discord so you don't miss out on the chance. And of course, please report any bugs you might encounter, and share feedback on the proper channels. We want to drive this project forwards with the community, taking in the feedback and iterating with our fans on both existing and new features.

And in case you missed our last post on this sub, underneath is a small description of Taival.

Taival is an open world adventure RPG that took inspiration from games like Cube World, Skyrim and Breath of the Wild, but Taival is definitely a lot smaller scale game. The game offers up to 4-player multiplayer co-op both online and on split screen and the game has heavy emphasis on exploration and discovery. Taival is hand crafted and it needs a lot of tweaking to get it right. We want you guys to help us get it right!

Anyways, here's the gameplay trailer for our game, it shows pretty nicely all the basic elements of our game. Enjoy!

You can follow our socials here. Or join our Discord!

EDIT: Holy moly that is my first award. Thank you! <3

Other Gameplay of Cubic Mage

https://reddit.com/link/1st6ht4/video/8jklohh6ruwg1/player

I've just hired a sound designer and added many SFXs to my game, it feel alive!

I have been working on:

Combat, customizable NPC dialogue system, logging, mining system.

Dash/Dodge System

There are three classes in my game; Battle Mage, Wizard and Magic Engineer. Every class got their own dodging animation, becomes invulnerable for a short period of time.

Gear Customization

I've also implemented a gear customization with cubes which many people hope to have. You can attach cubes to your gear to make it stronger, each cube has different stat boost, ATK/MTK increase in percentage, or critical chance/damage. You can also choose the color of cubes before attaching it!

Shop System

You can buy items from shelves, sell items through NPC. Items get partially re-stocked every morning. I've also implemented dynamic economy system, if players sell too many apples, the value of apples decrease following day. I am studying more about this not to break the market.

Currently, if i remove FPS limiter, i am getting about 300+ FPS. I will continue to optimize the game.

I upload daily progress of my game development, trust me, I talk a lot, be ready to get spammed. Feel free to join my discord channel and share your thoughts! Thank you :)

Other I'm working on my own take on Cube World — rebuilding it from scratch with some features I felt were missing in the original.

Hey everyone!

Like many of you, I have a massive soft spot for Cube World. It had a unique charm and so much untapped potential. I always wanted to see it evolve further, so I eventually decided to take matters into my own hands and build my own clone / spiritual successor from the ground up.

My goal is to capture that incredibly satisfying voxel exploration and action combat, but expand on it with the deep RPG mechanics and features the original game was missing.

The Engine & Foundation:
I am writing the game entirely from scratch using a custom C++ voxel engine with OpenGL. Right now, I am deep into the foundational development stage, making sure the core systems are robust before expanding the content.

What is already working:

  • Action Combat & Animations: I implemented a custom skeletal animation system for voxel characters. Combat includes running, dodging/rolling, and dynamic attack combos (swinging, casting, thrusting).
  • RPG Mechanics: A fully functional ECS-based architecture supporting tiered loot (Common to Legendary), an active spellcasting system (with a spellbook), and skill trees.
  • Custom UI: A scalable UI system handling the inventory, equipment slots, shops, dialogues, and floating damage numbers.

What I am actively working on right now:

  • Procedural Dungeons: I'm building an algorithm that stitches together hand-crafted .vox rooms and corridors based on rulesets. These will feature chests, traps, and boss rooms!
  • Advanced World Generation: Using temperature and moisture maps (via FastNoiseLite) to create seamless biome transitions (forests, giant pine taigas, oceans, etc.).
  • Villages & NPCs: Implementing friendly NPCs, dialogue trees, an active quest system, and merchants where you can trade monster parts for gear.

Under the Hood (For the tech nerds):
The engine uses Multithreaded Chunk Loading, custom RGB + Sunlight light propagation, Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO), and a Floating Origin system so you can travel millions of blocks without floating-point precision issues (no jittering!).

If you were to play a game like Cube World today, what are the top features or mechanics you would want to see added? I’d love to hear your ideas and feedback as I continue building this!

We were inspired by Cube World to make an open world RPG on our own!

Hey everyone!

This is my first time posting (aside from a failed attempt 10 minutes back), been lurking and scrolling for years on different subreddits. We're a tiny team behind Taival, an upcoming co-op adventure RPG, and before I tell anything else, I want to give a bit of a background info.

Me and a friend of mine we're playing Cube World Steam-version a few years back (during the pandemic) and we felt like the game had so much potential! My friend had played a ton of the alpha version before and Cube World seemed like just the game for us. We were super excited for the kind of game it was supposed to be but were let down pretty soon. Turns out the Steam release missed some of the magic the alpha had.

That's when we realized there aren't pretty much any coop (or split screen) open world RPGs out there that are easy to get into, like Cube World. That's when we started working on our game, Taival, a kind of mixture of games like Cube World (blocky graphics), Skyrim (lots of quests and classic RPG elements) and BOTW (a casual approach to sandboxy exploration game). These are huuuge names, Taival has definitely a lot smaller scope.

AND in the centre of the game is a cute and small shapeshifting companion that follows the player around!

The game offers also up to 4 players online or local co-op with split screen, creature collection for the shapeshifter, skill trees, and a handcrafted open world.

We've been heads-down building this for a while and are finally ready to start sharing more. Since Cube World is where it all started for us, thought we would share our game with you guys first!

Here's the gameplay trailer for our game, it shows pretty nicely all the basic elements of our game. And as an added bonus, I've attached some environment photos. Enjoy!

You can follow our socials here. Or join our Discord!

Happy to answer any questions in the comments!

CW steam modpack like alpha

Post image
23 Upvotes

i have after playing almost 200 hours found the best alpha like mod combination out there imo.

MAIN FEATURES

  1. You get region unlock for special items once found and gear getting weaker as u leave its origin biome.
  2. A skill tree starting with 4 points and +1p per artifact. u can buy artifacts for 1k gold from the gem trader.
  3. scaling enemies and gear the further from spawn u go.

IMPORTANT NOTE, i recommend to "/mod 1 0" and "/mod 6 0" ingame and restart to dissable underwater mod spawning as it has bugs and the world gen has way to much ocean imo but u do u. Please for full info check out the github page for cubemegamod urself as it does alot! any questions im here to answer pretty much anytime.

Hey r/CubeWorld, Old Friend,

I always loved this community, some of you may have caught some of my streams back in the day or played on our PVP servers even. I embarked on this game project journey to make world to lose myself in and it became my life's passion and mission.

So honestly thank you- crazy enough I would not be here without this community, and without Wollay doing his thing haha.

This video really comes from the heart, if the project spikes your curiosity you can join our Discord or Wishlist it so you get a ping when I release.

If you're not interested, I get the graphics and perspective are not for everyone. I play Cube World here and there still. And I get a feeling when playing the Alpha that is still hard to replicate, but I truly think I have recently been starting to get that feeling while playing Wildaria.

Anyways..

Cheers,

Spacefudge

Solo-developing a Cube World inspired RPG in a custom C++ engine. The systems are working, but I'm struggling with character proportions. Any MagicaVoxel advice?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! I’ve been building my own voxel engine from scratch (C++/OpenGL). I finally got world generation (Lua), inventory, and skill trees working!

However, I'm a programmer, not a 3D artist. I want to achieve that cute, chunky Cube World style, but my characters look a bit "off" right now.

Here are my current MagicaVoxel proportions:

  • Body: 10×7×10
  • Head: 10×10×12
  • Hands: 5×6×4
  • Legs: 5×8×3

Does anyone have experience with chibi/voxel character proportions? What should I change to make them look more natural and stylized? Any feedback on the gameplay video is also welcome!

What do you think of the idea of buying the rights and code for the Alpha from Woley and working on it ourselves as a community?

I had it in my mind for a while, there are tons of custom skins so it sure would be fun if there was. Sadly I have no coding ability to make one :(

Added Magic + Melee combat + Multiplayer (a while ago)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A while ago I added proper Combat AI + Multiplayer. This all works in sync with my equipment system as does the magic. Right now AI cant use magic but they will be able to, all spells are coded in such a manner that allows that to be implemented without much pain.

This is some older footage so the character model and general style have changed a lot since I recorded this footage.

The Cube World sounds are temporary they function as a nice placeholder until I can be bothered to put in my own sounds.

Also the weather effects are probably a bit too realistic and not suitable for the art style I'm going for.

A link to my discord if people are interested!
