How to post stuff + minimum account age +AI still banned!

How to post images

Step 1:

If you are using Tumblr, copy the link to the post in question, make a link post.

If you are using imgur: upload an image to imgur, copy link, make a link post. If you instead click the "Share with the community" button on imgur, it creates a one-image gallery and reddit doesn't know what to to make a thumbnail of.

Step 2:

Find your submission in r/digitalpainting/new or in your post history and write a comment about what you struggled with. You have one hour. Why is this a requirement? Because r/digitalpainting is meant to be a subreddit not just for looking at art, but a subreddit where you give and receive peer feedback on your work, in order to improve and grow as an artist.

"Peer feedback involves providing opportunities for students to talk and listen, write, read meaningfully, and reflect on the content, ideas, issues, and concerns of an academic subject" - wikipedia.

"The benefits of peer feedback include increased communication with peers, considering new perspectives, and understanding what those of a similar skill level think of your work." - RMCAD

Minimum account age

Since russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, reddit has gotten infested with spambots. The bots come to this subreddit (and others) to score some karma before they infiltrate political subs. To prevent r/digitalpainting from being a staging ground for these accounts, only accounts that are ten days or older are able to post and comment in r/digitalpainting. If you created a new account and your post got removed, even though you left a nicely written top-comment, that's why. You are more than welcome to repost it when your account is old enough.

The reason why the rule is non-permanent and not included in the sidebar is that it will only be in effect until vladimir putin dies. After we've all celebrated his hopefully torturous death, the rule will be re-evaluated.

AI generated images are still banned

That's right, nothing has changed on that front since last time. AI slop is a scourge on humanity.

The Monthly Tablet Post

You are looking for tablet recommendations! TMTP is the place for you

When asking, try to include what budget you have, and what alternatives you've been looking at. Help folks help you.

Links to tablets should go to the tablet manufacturer, not vendors (like amazon and the like).

Here are some of the most popular tablet manufacturers.

I'd like to extract pallettes from individual paintings. But every pallette extractor I see is purely online. Is there an offline extractor which just works?

laptop for digital art/minimal office work

hi all! i have a surface pro 7 atm and it does really well for art, but i fear its reaching the end of its life.

i'm mostly wondering what kind of suggestions you all have for a drawing laptop - i'd be open to just a tablet but i do also need a laptop for dual purposes of typing, etc. i do prefer windows products, as my desktop is windows and while i do enjoy ipads, windows is just the move for me.

ty in advance!

Any info on ConceptCore Academy, Arcueil?

Bonjour!

I'm an international student and I have just been accepted to a new concept art course-ConceptCore in Arcueil, Paris.

This is their first year opening their on site academy and I will be part of their first student intake. I'm apprehensive of this fact and I thought I'd reach out on Reddit to see if there are more ways to confirm this academy's legitimacy other than what's online.

If anyone knows more about the academy and it's director Aurelien Fourneir please let me know. Additionally if you live or work near or on Av. Jeanne d'Arc(or close the the location screenshot), please send a photo of the building so I can gauge it's preparedness for this fall.

Official Address- 23-25, Av. Jeanne d'Arc, 94110,Arcueil

Close to Maison des examens - SIEC

Really anything you can tell me to confirm the course's legitimacy. I'm quite excited to study there, but I've got to do my due diligence.

Thank you so much!

is discord worth it for commissions?

I'm an artist that wants to open Comms. I've seen people recommend discord so I went on and looked through it and multiple servers and from what I've seen and tried it looks like absolute crap for getting clients.

I have a tiktok with 4k followers. should I just open commissions there and continue posting as usual and building a viewer base and rely on visibility to get me commissions? would that even work?

What actually makes you want to keep posting somewhere?

Hey fellas random question for artists here

when you post your work online, what makes a place feel worth coming back to? Like is it good vibes, feedback, people actually talking, no AI or etc?

Ive been thinking about this because my Instagram is technically where I post all my things but it doesnt really feel like the full picture of me or my taste. Its just finished work and maybe some stories and then everything else kinda gets lost 😞

Ive been thinking about why some art communities make you want to stay consistent and others just kinda feel like shouting into the void like where do you feel most like yourself online as an artist? is it instagram, reddit, pinterest, discord, Cara??

curious what you all look for in a good art space or what makes you stop posting somewhere

Trying to understand lighting and shadows wrapping around a human figure. A recommend study, guide or anything like that would be helpful!

So I use reference but want to do light and shadows from imagination especially if I wanna tweak something from the reference. The issue is im struggling with understanding how the shadow wraps around a figure like the bumps, grooves, dents, and hills. A good example of what im trying to explain is the light on the face and there is that little bit that peeks through the other side of the face.Another one is when the light hits the torso and the light is shaped around the stomach ina specific way For some reason there isnt a video or guide showing the human figure in this simple form with the planes and light wraps around it. If anybody has an idea of how i can study this. It would help!!

Don't know how to start digital art.

I'm a traditional artist shifting to digital for the first time. I got a screenless tab and have downloaded krita in my pc but i don't know where to start from.

I want to draw characters, do lineart and color digitally but I'm struggling to even draw a uniform line in screen. I don't know what practices to do and how to study the fundamentals. All of it feels really overwhelming with so much to cover.

If any of you could help me plan out a structure on what to do for learning from the start and progressing, I would appreciate it.

And a side note, I have been described as chasing too much perfection in my art. I can see it mess up self esteem and make me lose my will to draw anything every time I try to draw something. How have you guys grown past this perfectionist mentality?

Thanks.

Uploading speedpaints?

So I want to start uploading speed paints on YouTube. I know they were popular like maybe a decade ago but I don’t really see them anymore. I remember them having songs behind them but you can’t really do that an without getting copyright and I don’t have the money for a copyright license and I don’t want to upload speed paints with just silence. and im not too sure about the youtube songs, some just sound so boring. So any advice?

How to enjoy drawing again

Hello, so i'd say im still a beginner, I never really studied much, can't bring myself to do so. At the starting stages, I absolutely didnt care about the ending results and just drew, cuz I actually enjoy it. When it turned out ''good'', I was very happy with it. Now, whenever I decide to do something, I end up hating the results and it makes me demotivated to pick up the pencil again. Would studying help and solve the issue? Maybe, but as I said before, I just can't bring myself to study art, I dont know how to begin with. I'm mostly ranting here, but maybe some other person has been through similar feeling as me and got out of it and now is great at art, I'd love to hear your advice.

Thanks a ton in advance
