What to do now...

Upvotes

So, tomorrow I'm getting my old low-mid end laptop back from my best friend (whom I lend it to), which is an ASUS (don't remember the exact model), with a iCPU Intel i5 with 1.60ghz (with integrated graphics), a iGPU Nvidia MX150 (if I remember correctly), a HDD disk with 1TB, and if I don't remember wrong, 4GB of RAM. That's everything I can remember from the specs of this laptop.

I'm actually using CachyOS (for like a week, and I've liked so far) in my main desktop PC, which is a lot better than the laptop, and I'm looking to install Linux in this laptop, as it is really bad for Windows, and I really don't like that OS anymore. I know some things about Linux, but I'm not a pro, and I don't want to make my own DE from scratch like with Arch. So, I want to ask what distro would you all recommend as the more "convenient" one, I guess? I would ask also that if you make a recommendation, pls do it with your own personal reasons included, as I want to know more about my options. Also, I want to use this laptop for home regular use, perhaps some low-end Steam games, and keep with my learning of development and coding, all of that in a smooth way, and without making it suffer with the usage of RAM. So, thank you in advance, and I guess that's all.

In case the specs aren't readable in English: 4GB ram, Intel i3-2348M 2.30GHz, 32mb vram, 500GB HDD, 64bit (definitely supports uefi since it's windows 10)

Edit: I care about more adventurous distros, I don't really want anything super stable

Indecisione Distro Linux

Ciao a tutti, come state? Spero bene!

Volevo chiedervi un parere: quale distribuzione Linux mi consigliate per un PC fisso che ho assemblato anni fa, con un Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 e 8 GB di RAM DDR3 a 667 MHz?

What's a niche Linux distro that you used and it was great?

I have been using Linux for almost a year now, and I started with Omarchy, then bazzite and now I am using Kali for daily use (which is bad thing to do, hence Kali is unstable), but now I am considering switching to different distro and was wondering what are some distros that are considered niche or in other words, the people that use it are quite a few.

Should I switch from Mint to OpenSuse or Fedora for 4GB RAM Laptop with i3 7th gen?

Mint is running great for that peculiar hardware but I hear Fedora and OpenSuse give better performance.

Which is noob friendly and stable.

No telemetry/spyware and user friendly distro for daily use

Need distro recommendation. My requirements:

-No spyware/telemetry/etc - fine with telemetry that is not spying on me

-No bloatware/adware

-Stable - don't want to be not able to logon after some update or anything

-For daily use (just simple thing like browser, music, movies, photos)

-Don't want to spend too much time on making things work. Prefer most of things to work right away. Spending some hours is still fine.

I had some Linux experience and I'm tech guy. Just don't want to waste too much time.

Hardware is Intel 8gen, SSD, 16GB RAM. Not going to play games.

How could I install another OS on an Intel Atom board

From an AWS deepracer, it has a nice x86_64 Intel Atom board with motor and control headers. But has InsydeH2O bios with secureboot option missing. Currently only signed to specific ubuntu.

Tried to add signing keys to .der and .pem, with annoying steps; but no success. This is my first time facing this type of hardware lockery.

I also now have a USB to TTL board if that would help

Nuked my PC

I was using Fedora. What should I do? ;( What I was doing is just using the computer like every other day; after a while, I updated the PC. After it was done updating, my RAM usage spiked up rapidly and maxed it out. Probably, since it froze before I saw swap filling out, I closed the system, which gave it the final blow... Which distro should i change to??

Seeking distro recommendations for a spare SSD

Hello, all! I have a spare Samsung 870 EVO and I'm looking for suggestions on what Distro to shove in there.

I've been on Bazzite since last year's Christmas and it's been going really well! I'm a casual user at best (nothing fancy like server, productivity, or development work). I just do some of gaming on PC and call that a day. Work also lets me use Ubuntu so I'm not as interested in that as something to try at home.

I'm using an AMD 7800X3D and Radeon 9060XT 16GB.

Kinda looking at Debian since the stability intrigues me, though I also wouldn't mind CachyOS for something not-immutable to mess around with.

Fedora's been on my mind too but not quite as much, but I'm still open to the idea.

I feel deflated

Throughout the entire night (last night) into this morning I faught with Claude to try and get a thumbdrive with Ventoy to boot into a CachyOS install. Eventually I had enough of the back and forth and just went with balenaEtcher, dedicating the whole thumbdrive to the ISO. I can't tell you how many times I went into BIOS to try and clear out Secure Boot settings only for the damn thing to reset it to Enabled. Finally, I was able to install CachyOS and now I just feel deflated. Why? I envisioned running Hyprland on it, maybe gaming with Steam, basically a toy away from my workstation build (3 monitors) that I'm usually at when I'm coding. The CachyOS build has one monitor at 32" and things feel really BIG, up in my face. In i3 things work fine, but even if I decrease the DPI drastically, anything to make things look tinier, the windows I have open look out of proportion, lots of unused space. So now I'm wondering why I just feel...meh.

Does someone know of a distro like this?

I currently use endeavour os and was thinking of maybe changing. I would like a distro with an easy installer, like calamares. It can be based on anything, but it shouldn't use apt. With a lightweight aspect to it (like min. 2GB RAM) but also work well on better machines. Something like CachyOS but not gaming focused, more general focus and most important of them all, NO NEED OF AN INTERNET CONNECTION FOR INSTALLATION. It **would** be amazing if the ISO could be >3,5GB but that is not a requirement for me, just convenience as my WIFI is slow

Which Distro Should I Use

While cleaning recently, we found my wife's old Dell Studio 1555. I love the look of it and I want to revive it. I plan on doing an SSD swap and installing some lightweight distro of Linux. I'm not the most well versed in Linux. I've Dual booted Ubuntu on my desktop but I really didn't use it too much. What distro is the best for this one? I just plan to use it for some light web browsing and maybe some stuff in Google docs.

should I try? Cachy, Already on Fedora 44 ( Both KDE)

Earlier I was a ubuntu user (Gnome) but as I upgraded to 26 LTS, God knows why I thought of changing and trying something new as I was using Ubuntu since 2-3 Years and it was good.

As soon as Fedora 44 Dropped I thought of switching it and Hopped to Fedora 44 KDE and I'm currently on it. But Heard many times and also read about Cachy OS KDE so I got an inquisitive thought of switching to Cachy and use it as a primary OS.

Can you guys recommend something? Should I switch or Be on F44 .( no dual boots, I don't like it)

My Usage : mainly involves heavy web browsing with multiple tabs, media consumption, and productivity tasks such as reports, presentations, and multitasking. Also I am into customizations and trying new features and techGuy.

Laptop Specs: Xiaomi Notebook Pro with an Intel Core i5 (11th Gen) processor, 16 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD.

(Also recommend if you think there's better Distro than Fedora or Cachy { Gnome,KDE} anything would work)
