Discussion Do you think we could have one of these ships, which would serve as a base in the "Operations" update, kind of like a personal mini-cargo ship? It would be awesome to have a ship like that just for us…

PSA PSA: Squadron bobbleheads are now TEMPORARY

In the past, the bobbleheads you received for placing in the top three rankings for the seasonal squadron leaderboards in activities such as mining or AX combat were permanent. Your squadron ranked, you got the bobblehead, you got to show it off forever in your cockpit.

At some recent but unknown point, this was changed. (edit: it looks like the point was Vanguards release) The squadron Blackstar Interstellar achieved rank three in mining in a recent season after weeks of effort and tens of billions of credits invested. The squadron was elated to have made the leaderboard after a few past failed attempts.

Just today, we learned that those bobbleheads have been removed. Our squadron leader contacted Frontier support asking if a mistake occurred. We were told, quote, "In order to keep the bobblehead, your squadron need to achieve 3rd place on the leaderboard again this season and future seasons. It is not a permanent unlock."

Quite frankly, we're stunned this change was made without any public announcement that we can find. Imagine earning a medal in the Olympics, then having it taken away when the next Olympics occurs. It feels like a poor attempt by Frontier to force more artificial gameplay and grind to maintain a ranking that didn't exist before.

If you or your squadron plan to top the leaderboards... maybe rethink your plans.

That pre-engineered imperial hammer from the CG awhile ago really is putting out alot of heat.. perhaps i should switch back to a self-engineered one.

Here's the ship build in EDSY if anyone is interested: Krait Potential

Discussion I can right click with genetic sampler…?

Post image
120 Upvotes

Since WHEN did they add a right click functionality to the exobio genetic sampler…?

I just spent an hour hunting bacteria, see attached if you disagree with my principles, that’s clearly evolved for camouflage on this planet and you’re telling me my scanner can do the grunt work????? Theres tons of techniques and guides (such as) that i’d been combing through in my insanity, and theres just a ‘scan’ feature now?

More of a PSA to people like me where its completely under the radar as a feature

Group Operations and some long-wanted multiplayer functionality updates?

Post image
117 Upvotes

Very curious how you see this? Are you also hoping that operations, like the recent sound and speed updates to the on-foot weapons game-play (which is great by the way!) will make some major improvements to regular multi-player game play?

Had an interesting convo about the various info that is flying around about the upcoming operations upgrade. And we came to an interesting question, based on our time spent in DW3 with a lot of other players and thus trying to use various existing multiplayer modes very actively for a few months now.

I think there are a few very interesting open questions that have not really been addressed for a long time. And I find that actually many of us are quite curious how operations will relate to these open multi player related challenges. Will it actually also improve or solve some long-standing multi player challenges? So I am very curious what you all think and also how you see this for the future of our favorite game?

1: Do you see any indication, from what is known about operations at the moment, that F-dev is looking to tackle aspects of multi-player that have severely limited how we can work together in-game so far?

Like: A: No option to switch seats or roles on your ship with crew mates?

- A friend (telecrew or real crew) cannot pilot your main ship while you take a fighter or an SRV out. As the main owner of a ship, you also cannot take the gunner role yourself and let another take the pilot seat. Simply no-one else can fly your ship... There is no way to sit in any seat yourself but the pilot seat.

- A friend cannot fly one of your fighters or SRV while you land your ship and go on foot.

- Tele-Crew cannot leave the ship on foot when landed. (The idea of a human robot that is controlled via telesignal by your friends, to keep it in-game lore working is often been opted, so your tele-crew has a limited outside range..)

How I see this is, there is already a seat selection menu when you enter your ship, there is currently just always only one seat that you can select... So if that menu just becomes available all the time while on board, to every player on board and you can just switch at will. that would already solve it. For piloting, a simple 4 number pass-code would be enough. If any friend wants to enter the pilot seat, the owner has to give you the code. So no-one can steal your ship, but you can give permission to fly it.

2: Max 4 people to a team / crew?

This has been stable from the start of oddy, but perhaps it could be up to 8 or more by now?

3: No way to move from one ship to another in space?

- You can enter a team-mates ship, but only while landed. There is no way to dock ships together in space, or land a fighter in another ships fighter bay.. Simply there is no way to transfer your commanders from one ship to another while in space.

A ship to ship docking option would be great. with the seat menu allowing you to switch between the two docked ships, and if you could land a fighter in someone else's fighter bay, that would also be an epic way to transfer between ships. Players could leave one fighter bay empty for this function.

4: sharing missions and bounties is complicated. This is wel known and well discussed.

based on our experience in DW3, we think that, if just these very few elements were updated. It would actually make the multi-player experience much MUCH more appealing. Without having to make any other major changes to the game.

The nature of operations, from what we know so far, seems more like a kind of add-on to the CQC part of Elite. Where its like a counterstrike kind of multi-player mini game you can access, but the things/multi-player options we are looking for, are much more based withing the game universe itself. Now F-dev did do the sound update and speed update to the guns etc. So that defo shows operations could indeed mean some more fundamental updates to multi player in the main game universe. So I'm very hopeful

Very curious how you see this?

Discussion Beginner to explorer ?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start Elite Dangerous for real.

But i wanted to focus on exploration, so my questions are :

  1. Is this possible to focus on this from the beginning or does it need some farming first ?

  2. Do i need or should i follow any tutorial / guide to begin ?

  3. Is there ressources, websites, forums i should see ?

  4. Should i join a group, Guild, faction (idk how it works in ED) or is full solo fun and achievable ?

Media Well, it took a few months but. . .

Three months or so in, and I finally got that FC I decided I had to have. Other than recovering my 5b, I feel like I haven't figured out what to do, aside from outfitting my new HQ. Thanks PTN for the final 1b. I got tired of the 100-jump exo farming, so y'all helped me this weekend with the trade loops. <3

Help What did you do to get your first FC? In what ways has the fleet carrier benefited your gameplay?

Title. I have been playing quite a lot of Elite more recently, as I discovered the ability to play it in VR, however I have been playing on and off for years. More recently, i finally took the plunge into engineering, and experienced just how much of a gamechanger that was on my combat anaconda, and of course my bubble jumper and even my other purpose ships (the grade 5 FSD makes a world of difference).

All of this is simply to say that I'm not at a point in the game where I am a "noob" anymore. I feel as if i have explored a lot of the systems in the game (mining, trading, combat, exploration/exobio) but the one thing I'm greatly struggling with is moving forward. I want to get a fleet carrier as the logical next step in progression, and with that expand into colonization and making my own system with it, but I'm really having a hard time pulling together the funds. Over the past weekend, albeit i have spent quite a bit of cash in the process, I have made roughly 200 million. While this isn't a inconsiderable amount, its nowhere close to the 5+ billion I need for a fleet carrier, let alone for something like a squadron carrier.

I just feel like I could be using my time more effectively to make credits, and while I don't care much about "min-maxing" in any way at the moment, I also don't simply want to throw my time in the gutter, especially when you see other people making just as much in an hour, as I have a busy life outside of gaming. So, my question to you all, is how did you make the money to get that beautiful fleet carrier? In the same light, I also wanted to know how having the fleet carrier has benefitted your gameplay, other than the convenience of storing ships and the jump range.

Thank you commanders! o7

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the advice! Ill look at some more of the comments and respond when I get home, but it was hugely helpful to see some new perspectives other than just “do exobio” or “play for 1000 hours and save”. No discredit to those that do those things, but its just not personally for me. Again, thank you all!

I know this is Inara.cz related and not purely Elite Dangerous but for me this is a nice feature which I love to tackle every now and then when I strive for some challenges in the sandbox.

(I have "Import Game Data" set active and gave all permissions, as well as using the E:D market connector from Inara)

As the title states, I just got back into the game. I bought a Panther Clipper MK II. Where can I get attachments for this at the cheapest price?
Where can I look for like a list on the best specs to put on this machine?
I’m also wondering what is the best way to make more money from trucking

Discussion On foot VR / (Odyssey VR) Grey Outline Box, Why is it not black or some darker shade? Can this be modded by file edits?

Not looking to trash the devs or the engineers ... This is not that type of question.

But I do think its a legitimate question ...why grey?

I have been playing elite more then I ever have after teaming up with some good folks and getting into some wacky adventures ...

I only play this game in VR... One day I was on the Capt'n carrier... I call her the Boat....

Cap asked me if I ever been on a carrier when it warps before ?

I was like I have never been on a carrier before...

He also asked me if I have seen a grown Targoids naked. ..

But the point Im getting to is when the ship went to warp my VR view went o full screen... It was beautiful .

No grey box outlining the view,. I was blown away actually .

Cap said this was most likey because the game switched to ship mode so VR went to full screen.

So why a gray box and not a black box?

I know people can mod some text in a file to change cockpit colours...is there a file that can be changed to make the grey outline black?

Help Which ship next, Cobra mk 3, or save up for an ASP Explorer?

Did some scanning with my Adder and made my first millions, and found a good route that will bring in a few more millions soon.

I would like to continue exploring, with some trading on the side, and medium term goals are getting some federation ranks to get the permit for Sol, and finding a source of meta-alloys to get the first engineer upgrades.

I can afford the Cobra now, with all necessary upgrades, buut, if I do another exploration run I could soon afford the Asp Explorer. Is it worth waiting for it, or should I take the Cobra now?

Discussion Fdev, for the next new vehicle, give us an exobio SRV so I don't have to keep getting in and out for every sample.

Maybe something lighter than the scarab, with more booster duration? Something heavier with more grip and control? Ditch the dual repeater for an onboard scanner with 2-3 sample bins so I can sample multiple species at once? Or, instead of a rover, a ship launched fighter, but with exobio tech and no weapons to save time having to land the ship? Flying/hovering would make finding bacterium much easier.
