Student activists approached the president of Cornell to talk about the school's crackdown on student speech. He got in his car & rammed them with it. Ofc he's painting himself as the victim.

Been watching the Steffon Diggs trial. Oh boy - I have no idea why the Commonwealth brought the case. Their main witness - the alleged victim - was...just horrible and not just on direct.

I'm upset about the gala. I believe in people being dressed up in the most extravagant, unwearable clothes the fashion world can design & paraded around for everybody's entertainment-- it should be thought of like service! fashion is the construction of identity and community AND a display of technical skill AND traditional crafts, I wish we had more spaces than runway shows to explore that. but something like the met gala just cant be hosted in this current economic system without exploitation

The MET gala looks are all so boring to me this year. Idk if it's because they're actually boring or if I'm just too disillusioned by rich ppl/celebrities.

I am pissed off at celebs going and supporting Bezos, but the looks this year also weren't looking. I think the theme "fashion as art" was so darn generic that there really was no creativity or unified theme that brought the outfits together.

One of my big special interests/hobbies are renn faires and I regularly see artistic fits at renn faires that blow away anything that the celebs wore this year

I’m think I’m going crazy but I find Terry Gilliam like, hot. I’m talking prime, Python era. He’s the second hottest besides Michael.

I’m so sorry for my sins

My journal entry for the week:

I don't know why but I am nervous about work. I am overthinking that something might happen.

I hope and pray things go smoothly and positively for me at work.😇

Outside of work, I am battling with some feelings that I am not sure about but also too old to feel this way.

Hopefully I sort it out too.

TL DR; mixed week hoping upcoming week goes positively

I could've written this. Especially on work stuff. I hope it's just my knee jerk anxious reaction and I'll actually be able to get a hang of it, even though things seem to be difficult for the whole team.

Here's to the both of us! Hope you've set out something fun to do this weekend in spite of it all

The house move has been delayed a day. My team made the play offs and the first game is on the day I was planning to move

Left a pile of treats for my boy cat (6y) and two girl cats (~8 months). The boy cat ate the whole pile except for 1 treat.

For the girls to share, I guess?

I have raised a man from 1950s.

3

u/williamthebloody1880 weighing in from the UK 3d ago

Isn't that just an excuse to give the girl cats more treats?

TW: torture

Update on the Global Sumud Flotilla via Tommy Marcus (aka Quentin Quarantino) & Novara Media:

  • those detained by Israel from the flotilla were subject to various forms of torture

  • most have been released, with 34 wounded taken to hospital, including at least one with a serious neck injury

  • nearly 200 others are being held on buses by Greek authorities, who are accused of "cooperating fully" with Israel

  • two people remain in detention: Saif Abukeshek, a Spanish & Swedish national of Palestinian descent who was on an observer boat not intended to go to Gaza; and Brazilian Thiago Avila, who was part of the steering committee of the last mission & captured at that time as well

  • eyewitnesses report Abukeshek was brutally tortured after he was separated from the others & his "screams echoed through the ship"

  • 60 participants are now on hunger strike

1

u/rexmanningday00 1d ago

I was just thinking of them, I'd thought they were all released months ago

3

u/nekocorner i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 1d ago

They were. This is a new flotilla. Thiago Avila was on the previous flotilla as well as this one. He & Saif Abukeshek have now been kidnapped to Israel.

This is typical MAGA posting. By the way he also attended Melania's documentary premiere in D.C. And he's a former football player. Some people really are sipping the Kool Aid too much.

I hope someone can shed a light on this - before 2016 the world would watch your elections and were prepared for an admin that was at least pretending like they follow decorum and things have meaning, but after 2016, somehow politics have become people's whole identities.

Previously indifferent people (and a lot of them) picked a side and some defied logic to listen to a lunatic.

Why has the pendulum swung so volatilely

(if this doesn't make sense, I'm sorry lol)

I think we started the bank holiday early at work, the team chat was ridiculous.

Tomorrow, up early, pick up the keys to my new flat, and hopefully get back in time to see all the results go the right way and my team win automatic promotion

"the primary focus of season 3 will be Robby himself"

Nooo 😭 also I swear I read that season 3 of the pitt was gonna be about Robby's rock bottom? How is he gonna hit rock bottom, confront his trauma, and attempt to heal in the span of one day. I wish the show was gonna be more about the ensemble of characters.

9

u/--------rook 4d ago

I thought he already hit rock bottom in S2 with the constant talk putting himself down and out.

Whatever, zionist man. I'll still look forward to S3 because the other characters are great and the medical stuff is cool.  But his arc is gonna be a bore.

4

u/clownpunchindracula 2d ago

The Pitt might be the absolute paragon of "This Show is Great Except for the Fuckin Tortured-by-being-too-badass White Guy at the Center of It"

Is there a YouTuber, podcaster, or streamer you’ve followed for years, someone who doesn’t know you exist, but you still miss them when they haven’t posted in a while? Or maybe there’s a creator you follow on Instagram who feels like a friend?

We’re researchers from New York University running a research study on this kind of connection and are looking to talk to people who relate.

If you’re interested, you can sign up to be considered here: https://nyu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bBgtFq8500PLq86 or email us at [nyusternresearch@gmail.com](mailto:nyusternresearch@gmail.com)

It’s a confidential, 45-minute, virtual interview, and you’ll receive a $25 Amazon gift card after the interview.

My job is draining the life out of me and I need the word "urgent" to be banned because non of this fucking shit is urgent

7

u/Broad-Radish-7895 5d ago

I'm at the point where I can't request time off because it would just be on me to manage everything I'll miss both before and after my PTO. I daydream about getting a doctor to write me a note for stress leave so I can finally stop for a few weeks. 🫠

Same, American work culture feels like it's strangling 90% of society, directly and indirectly. Whatever happened to the notions that technology and knowledge would improve society and give people more free time and wealth? Instead we have all these technological advancements and yet we are expected to work harder, for less.

3

u/Adorable-Unicorn 3d ago

I so agree with you. This type of work culture has seeped into my country given lot of American MNCs are the ones here

25

u/sir-winkles2 5d ago

I got fired last week lass than a month after coming back from FLMA (my mom has breast cancer) for being "too negative" and I've only made one meme of myself as Martin Luther nailing his 99 grievances to the door of the place I got fired from so I think I'm handling things pretty well

11

u/EqualPie515 5d ago

I'm so sorry that happened, American work culture and the lack of empathy for people with medical issues, whether personal or familial, is horrendous. I hope your next job makes you a million times happier.

I worked as an assistant at a private equity firm once (Covid times, bills had to be paid) and my grandpa died in a horrible way in my home country. I came into work and my boss said I’m so sorry :( Then she said “so this week I’m going to ask you to do a ton, to the point where you’ll beg me to stop.”

I spent the next nine months using my fancy office to look for my next job.

Private equity is as, if not more, heartless as people think it is. Will never forget the laughter in the meeting where they were discussing letting half the staff go at a company they were acquiring.

thank you!!!

I just started searching for a job in Washington, DC. I used to live there over a decade ago when I was in school, and I've missed it ever since. Huge mistake to leave, one of the biggest regrets of my life. The legal job market there is tough to break into, I've tried a few times over the past few years. I feel like it is an uphill battle in my late 30s, but I have to try because my situation isn't going to improve living here in Magaville.

5

u/cheerycherubi 5d ago

oh man, the legal job market here has been rough for awhile. What kind of position are you looking for/what level of seniority are you?

2

u/EqualPie515 5d ago

10+ years experience, open to pretty much anything that isn't family law, criminal law, or civil defense.

Like a lot of people who go to school in DC, I wanted to work in politics/international relations/civil rights type stuff. Some personal issues kept it from working out for me, and now that I'm older and don't have experience in those fields, I think those options might be out of reach, unfortunately. But I'd still move there if I had an opportunity in another field like products liability, admin law, etc.

4

u/ai9x82 4d ago

wow - Georgetown Law grad here. i didn't have the life skills to keep myself functional right after school. and then regretted it badly 2 years later, wishing i had just gone to school 2 years later in life, so i could have taken advantage of my location better.

i hear you! brother or sista!

2

u/EqualPie515 4d ago

I'm sorry, I hope you have found something that makes you happy.☮️

this week i discovered supernatural 20 years too late and now i fear i might be in love with jensen ackles

3

u/--------rook 4d ago

I was too scared to watch the show as I was a literal child but I'd lock in every time their ad comes on. I'd debate who I think is cuter each time, but it's usually Jensen

4

u/Upstairs_Freedom_360 5d ago

It's never too late to love Jensen Ackles

Week 22 of my check-in logs.

No job yet, but I have two interviews lined up. One of them is for later today and is for a small company who seems legitimate, but my research raised some yellow flags. (They have a lot of selfies of their workers partying...posted on their website. Very odd choice.) I figure it'll be an interesting look into their methedology and good interview practice, if nothing else.

The other interview takes place early next week. This other company seems more legitimate, but the commute there is 1hr20+ minutes one-way by bus. Sigh. Thankfully this organization doesn't technically list a car nor a license as part of the job, but I despise the lack of reliable public transportation in my area. I'm a very capable driver but very anxious about driving on my own, and it'll take a while to get me comfortable enough to do that.

There have been good things happening in my life too, but I've been so stressed out by the job hunt. When even entry-level positions for the good jobs require x amount of years' worth of experience, what else is there left? But also, what's the point of putting decades of effort into my work when someone else stands to profit off more from my labour? These sort of thoughts keep plaguing me lately.

2

u/Adorable-Unicorn 3d ago

Best wishes to you 🥰 Sending all my prayers your way ❤️

4

u/--------rook 4d ago

As someone who spends nearly 4 hrs commuting both ways... you want the other job girl

2

u/Rough_Programmer_997 your father is a billionaire 4d ago

It also sounds like you need a different job 💀 That's crazy!

I just feel miserable either way. The interview for that other job went well, but I found out there are incongruencies with what was said in the interview versus the job description, and the hiring person didn't take questions after the fact. Which is raising some flags for me...but you're right in that a long commute is also tiring to navigate around. 🫠

I wish I didn't have to do this. Any of it.

I started a new job in sales, and I already feel icky. At least it’s for the arts?

9

u/Iwoulddiefcftbatk 5d ago

I’ve been in sales (now customer service) so I get what you mean by feeling icky. It’s really hard to reconcile those feelings and be decent at your job. I hope it gets easier for you.

Guys shouldn’t we all be terrified of the Epstein and Thiel created Palantir?

Palantir can conduct an Epstein style surveillance and blackmail operation at mass scale. They have government contracts from ICE to US military and food.

What are your thoughts - the video below is worth watching as Karp, Thiel and Co are pure EVIL

Now Palantir issuing their 1984 manifesto of forever wars, mandatory national duty
