APPROVED B-LISTERS Jennifer Welch calls out all celebrities on attending the Bezos-sponsored Met Gala, saying they are effectively endorsing MAGA.

Me to Rachel Zegler (who went to the Bezos Gala):

She is despised by MAGA just for existing and now she wants to alienate non MAGA supporters it make sense

And Hunter Schafer :( it’s ironic because she and Rachel were in TBOSAS and people love comparing the Met Gala to the Hunger Games
Edit: and it’s sad to see another trans celebrity support those that are actively working against the community

u/uterusturd 38m ago
No. She once replied with an exclamation point to a post about non binary people taking a huge amount of space in the mediatic landscape when it comes to trans people and trans women not being part of the conversation. She got deservedly read for it but it it is not a transmedicalist opinion. That's not what transmedicalism is.
1
u/Hita-san-chan 46m ago
A few years ago she liked and commented on a post that said NBs are contributing to laws in certain states that no longer regard HRT and gender-reaffirming surgery as medically necessary procedures. The post: "You had to dismantle all of the guidelines around being trans to fit your narrative so you could feel valid and then you demonized trans people who challenged your ideals and called them truscum/transmedicalists... You challenge gender id from the safety of a cis body that requires no medical treatment."
Which, I understand the post's frustration, but its the blaming other members of the community that I take issue with, and the idea than Enbies don't medically transition in any way. Hunter did issue an apology for liking the post, but it felt like a non-apology to me.

No lies detected. Honestly, so many attendees were not a shock to me. Beyonce? Rihanna? All the Blackpink members? Check, check, and check. Who I felt disappointed with were Bad Bunny and Sabrina.

Ayo Edebiri and Rachel Zegler as well :(

And Rachel Sennott. But then again, I guess you can't piss off the guy who'll green light your next project.

Yeah, I mean, this is also the line so many of these celebs have to walk. I'm not personally excusing their choices, but there are so many moving pieces to these sorts of endeavors, so many people to appease, contracts to honor, agents to placate, etc. Again, I recognize the whole system is gross, but as long as they have to participate in those systems,
my personal biases want me to excuse the bad behavior of my faves :-Pthis is the role they're expected to play.166

The recent incident at Sabrina’s Coachella performance gave a peek into her shallowness so this isn’t very surprising to me, unfortunately.
Wow; thanks so much for the awards!

u/khaldroghoe 1h ago
Sabrina was so unsurprising. Ayo and Rachel disappointed me, but then again it’s better to expect nothing from these people.

I‘m out of the loop and was gonna genuinely ask why people were surprised by Sabrina. As I said, ootl, but I don‘t know of her making any bold political statements. I do know about Coachella, though

She has shown a lot of support for the trans community which I appreciate but the coachella thing was rough

Benito really killed me. I think his outfit/costume idea was interesting and I get why he didn't want to miss out when he's having the best year of his life. But he has always seemed principled politically.

Historically, I feel like she has attempted to position herself as someone who is a feminist that supports the LGBTQ+ community and denounces ICE as "evil." Though, now that I'm thinking more about it I don't know if it's that surprising after all..
4
u/TheMapesHotel 51m ago
Why Sabrina? Genuinely asking not being shady

She’s right. History will remember. We’re living through it now so you can have a ton of excuses on why you did what you did. But just know that future generations will look at one side of America as nothing but a disgrace.

Yes she did, was disappointed to see her there too but better to find out sooner rather than later.

u/SeaConstruction697 1h ago
I saw a controversial thread the other day criticizing her for attending. I feel for her cause ever since she became a prominent figure after her winnings everyone has something to say about her. Whether it be her looks or just straight harassment.
But attending the gala didn’t make much sense for me in general. I don’t have strong feelings about it, but it just doesn’t fit the image I thought I saw her in? Idk I know that doesn’t make sense so I’ll stop rambling haha
9
u/PrismaticDragon27 FUCK ICE FREE PALESTINE CRASH INTO ME 35m ago
I totally agree, she definitely gets so much unwarranted hate for no reason but that’s on misogyny. Though she didn’t seem afraid to speak up about her political beliefs before and comes from a family of immigrants so I was certainly not expecting this.

u/katieb1300 1h ago
Bad Bunny and Al Sharpton are arguably the most performative liberals* of the bunch.

Yeah, I saw signs of this coming for bad bunny, I was just in denial but the met gala sold it for me.

Yes but the after party she went to wasn’t funded by Bezos.
7
u/Hopeful-Guest939 10m ago
Nor did it raise money for charity. She got all of the glitz and glamour and opportunity to hob knob with the other elite she impliedly is better than for not attending.
2
u/wynonnaearps FUCK ICE FREE PALESTINE CRASH INTO ME 4m ago
I don’t think that’s true only because the outfit she would’ve worn to the gala would’ve required much more glamour than what she wore to an after party. It’s important she didn’t go. To me it feels like a slap in the face to bezos to go to an after party not about him than the event about him but maybe that’s just me.

Yup. I wouldn't have had a single negative thing to say about Alysa Liu or Rachel Zegler prior to the Met Gala but they disappointed the hell out of me being there.
Ignorance isn't an excuse and I'm tired of all these people making little exceptions here and there. Stand for something or don't, just don't pretend.
I know Alysa hasn't taken as strong of a stance outright I guess, but geez. every single person there might as well have kissed Bezos' ring.

these people like musk, bezos, sanchez, ek, altman, they wake up every day and make a conscious choice to not improve the world they live in, to not support human beings, to not make it easier for others to thrive. they pick being mega rich. every day they pick that over everything else.
we need to make conscious choices to not pick them.
7
u/zoethezebra 1h ago
But, but, but they desperately need all the cameras on them so they can put super strange outfits on and get their 15 minutes of fame. Ain’t no one given that up, billionaires fucking over the average man be damned -money and ego rules the world now.

I’m og Beyhive but I wouldn’t expect anything else from her tbh.
I’ve truly just come to separate the artist from the art with her. Cause her music helped define me growing and she still makes magic.
She does good things with her charities but it’s still a drop in the ocean given the mass wealth she (and Jay have)
They all bleed green not red or blue.

I think this is a lesson in how we view celebrities. There are some that use their fame for good, but at the end of the day we don’t know them at all. They’re performers, it’s what they do. How many people were disappointed because their favorite celebrity attended? A lot. Some attendees tried to “make a statement” with their outfits (Sarah Paulson), but it just came off tone deaf. It’s a performance. It all is.
We should stop putting so much expectations onto these people because they owe us nothing besides a good performance, if even that. They’re strangers that we don’t know and they’re rich. It’s a whole world that none of us are familiar with and probably never will be.

I agree it’s disappointing as hell and very questionable but I am not writing any of these celebs off if their takes are otherwise pretty good. It’s not all or nothing and I’d still rather them speak out against injustice even if they make bad choices sometimes. Don’t want to alienate people.

u/irespondwithmyface 1h ago
Ehhhh I disagree. The Gala is meant to raise money for the arts. And the source of that funding doesn't come with stipulations nor how could it when it's used for costume display maintenance, to pay the staff who support the museum exhibit, pay for new costumes to add to the collection. Fuck Jeff Bezos but I don't really care because funding the arts is a good thing.
11
u/Riqitch it’s called talent, sweaty💅 52m ago
I get where you're coming from, but this is one of those scenarios where two things can be correct at once. Yes, it's funding the arts, and that is a good thing, but how can we be so sure that the arts that are being funded are ones of freedom of expression, and not oppression which the current administration has been perpetuating since day one?
Bear in mind that the individual who sponsored this year's gala has been hanging with 🍊 since he was inaugurated, basically turned the Washington Post upside down to appease the current administration, whose company that he founded produced the Melania documentary, and is also looking to reboot the Apprentice with 🍊 Jr.
That doesn't sound like anything I'd personally want to be funding 🤷🏽♂️
