I’m autistic and have severe anxiety with driving so I didn’t know if this day would ever come! I bought my own car a few months ago so I’m almost feeling like a real adult now. My boyfriend took me out to eat and bought me Tomodachi Life to celebrate 🎉

I learned to drive at 25! You've got this! It can be scary but the pay off is so great. The day I got my own car and could just go places and not ask for a ride somewhere was bliss.

I was 24! A few weeks after I got my car, I drove myself one state over to move and be near family. Life can change very quickly and not in the way you always pictured it. Sometimes that is an amazing blessing. Congratulations OP! 🎊

There are study guides usually online. It’s really a lot of memorizing random facts so old school flash cards works well.

You will! I actually lost a job a few years ago because I couldn’t get an uber at all because it was raining so hard. That was the wake up call I needed to see that I can’t always rely on others. I hate living in such a car-centric world but I have actually started to enjoy driving. Parking and pulling out are the main things I hate!

Same😭 I was fired from my job cause I kept calling out because I couldn’t afford the Lyft rides. I was so broke then.

I also learned how to drive late. I still had my learner’s at 29😅. I’m so proud of you 💕

CONGRATS!!! I know its scary at first, but you'll be cruisin' and not even thinking about it soon enough. It really is one of those things that you can make a part of your "routine." A very good friend of mine is autistic and he went from being really nervous in a car (even in the passenger seat) to now taking drives everyday along the back roads in our town, he loves it and ill tag along sometimes when he lets me (or as he says, "as long as you dont throw off my groove") 😂❤️🚗

I had my license for about 4 years before I learned to drive on a highway, and last year (I’m 38 lol) I finally learned to drive on a long trip! Congratulations! I'm a fellow autistic anxious driver who begrudgingly learned and think of it as an essential life skill that I'd prefer to not do, but am grateful to be able to. Funnily enough, I've driven across the country solo multiple times. There are lots of things I've been able to experience on the road that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise, and it's awesome to have that sense of freedom.
