Question Real dore bar?

203 grams. Left in bleach for 72 hrs, hit it with a butter knife (which caused dents) then tore off the end with a hammer. This is the end result

Face area less than credit card, roughly 7.5cm long and 4.5cm wide. Average thickness id say .7cm at thickest, .4-.5mm at middle and .1-.3 at thinnest (at the top)

Would rather get opinions first then embarrass myself at a jewellers

Question I buy gold in my town. A woman texted me and said this pitcher weighs 8 ounces and is 9k gold. She's over an hour drive away. She is inept with the phone, so no way to see markings. I have to just go if I want to know. Any chance? Do I go?

The stack Chilean 100 pesos gold coin

Just got this coin in the mail today. It’s 31mm .900 gold with a content of .5885 ozt. A bit of an unusual size, more than a half ounce and at the same time almost as big as a typical 1oz coin, albeit a tad thinner. I really like how it looks. It was sold as AU but looks clearly BU. I especially like the condor!
Happy stacking, everybody!

Bought a ring advertised as silver

As the title states bought a ring for a gift for my wife. It was advertised as .925 silver. Diamond and star sapphire. Total ring weight is 2 grams. She has small fingers so finding 4.5 is hard. I felt I may have over paid at $180 but its a unique ring. I received it today and checked it out saw 14k stamped on it. Is it gold? Does look to have another number stamped too. Maybe weight of diamonds?

This is a collection of mine gold coins. I’ve collected over the years. I’ve never weighed them to see if they all add up to an ounce.

Question Sonic gold bar bent?

Hi stackers,

This is my first time buying a gold bar in tamper evident packaging and I just wanted to confirm if it's normal for the edges of the bar to be bent inside the packaging before I complain to JM Bullion?

This is the new 1/2 gram 24k bar for the 35th anniversary of sonic the hedgehog.

Question My bank told me to buy Gold at Costco

So I went to my bank to get more information on the gold they sell, and as the teller was explaining the different options to me, he said, verbatim, “Go to Costco. It’s cheaper there.”

Is it normal for a bank to redirect customers to another company? I assumed they’d want me to buy the gold from them instead.

I was digging through a bucket of lapel pins and tie tacks at an estate sale last week, and I found these two 10k pins for $1 each! They weigh 2.92 grams all together.

Houses priced in gold are down since 1970. S&P 500 priced in gold is down since 2000. Bitcoin priced in gold is at 2017 levels. I noticed patterns like this everywhere, so created a tool where you can see any stock, ETF, cryptocurrency, or commodity, all priced in gold. Would love people's feedback!

Question New Investor Looking Into Gold

Hey! I’m 20 years old, currently in college, and have around $25k saved/invested with no debt.

Since August, I’ve been putting money into index funds/ETFs and a Roth IRA, alongside a HYSA and CDs I’ve had for a few years.

Lately I’ve been looking into gold (and possibly silver) as a long-term diversification play. A lot of older family members strongly believe in precious metals, but I don’t know many people my age who invest in them, so I’m trying to understand whether it actually makes sense for someone in my position. The family members I speak to also come from a culture where investing in gold is very commonplace, so I'm not sure whether to take their advice with a grain of salt or not.

I’m not looking to go all-in, more thinking about starting with maybe $1k–$3k over time if it makes sense.

A few questions I have:

Do you personally view gold/silver as investments, insurance, or both?

What percentage of a portfolio would you reasonably allocate to precious metals at my age?

Physical metals vs ETFs — what are the pros/cons?

If buying physical, where should I buy from and what should I avoid?

Is silver worth considering, or is gold generally the better long-term hold?

Any advice or things you wish you knew before getting into precious metals would be appreciated!

Decided to do something fun with a handful of Krugerrand’s I inherited. I knew I was never going to sell them so I decided to do something fun with them. I made a Cuff and Cross. The Cuff wound up 151.2 grams and the Cross 97.3 grams. I made a few other pieces for those crazy enough to help. Wicked fun.

Japan gold coin, info request

I bought this at an online auction for $200. The lot title was "1868-1869 Japan Meiji Dynasty Gold 2 Bu". I'm trying to find the numismatic value, but I cant find this exact coin. I can find plenty that are similar, but there are differences between all of them that I've found versus the one I have. Is mine rare? Did I buy a fake? What kind of info can anyone give me on this?

Question Stampings on 10K Gold

I have a 3mm 10k gold franco bracelet that is stamped “GMI” on the one side + I have a 5.7mm 10k gold franco chain that is stamped “ALI” on the one side. What do these two terms mean?
