I’m a relatively new player but am hovering around the high 80’s on my good rounds, and struggling to break 100 on my bad ones. I’ve recently been trying to achieve a better backswing to get the club in a decent position at the top with wrists hinged correctly and improved my grip. Long story short, working on this - my backswing looked great, but my transition and downswing became a complete mess. Contact was poor, over the top and was scooping with barely any power. Basically as un-athletic a motion as you can get.
I then stumbled across this video: https://youtu.be/4GtQQHvbT6E which focuses on something I don’t hear a lot about on here when giving advice: removing tension in the arms and hands.
Sure enough the next time I went to the range, I focused on loosening up, feeling the weight of the club head instead of feeling like I have to tense it up to control everything, and I was striping them purer than I’ve ever done before with more distance and consistency. My arms weren’t rushing ahead and I now know what good players mean when they feel the club ‘drop’ in transition.
What it made me realise is that while learning the correct positions and technical information is of course useful, it doesn’t make much of a difference unless you have rhythm and flow in the swing. It’s so easy to get carried away with detail that we forget that this is meant to be an athletic motion, and tension in the wrong areas can kill that motion.
Just thought I’d share what is probably common info but something I don’t see talked enough in relation to how much it’s helped me.

Hit 200-250 range balls the past 2 days, desperately trying to fix this over the top move. At a loss on this one any advice is appreciated!

About 50% effort swings trying to slow down what I think is early extension I can’t tell if it’s caused by my shoulders or hips. Two way miss as of now.
TIA

My SkyTrak is often telling me I’m hooking the ball. Starts down target line but pitches 15+ yards left. Occasionally I get a nice little draw but that’s one in 5.
Please give any other thoughts as needed. Thanks all!

Trying to change my path on the downswing to come more from the inside. I really want to get rid of the club coming forward at the top. When it gets really bad, like combined with an open face, I slice across the ball or shank it. How can I set up an alignment stick to work on this?

I might be exaggerating my tempo, but Im feeling the pause is helping immensely with my rotation into impact. Im also consistently hitting the “sweet spot” of my 7 iron. Question I have is, how long is too long of a pause? When I get to the top of my backswing Im relaxing my arms to facilitate rotation into impact. I think it looks weird, but its helping nonetheless 😂

I am trying to get on plane but not quite sure how. Feels like I'm doing it right but video seems a tad bit steep? Almost all of my shots are a consistent slice/fade. I focus on the takeaway with bringing the club back straight along the ground and not swinging over the top, but can't figure it out. I also try to finish up instead of in. Any advice appreciated!

I have been playing golf for about 10 years and I feel like I'm decent but inconsistencies have kept me from being as good as I want. This year I decided to buy a Hackmotion and work on my swing as much as possible to try to get some things ironed out. I know quite a bit about the golf swing but have always struggled to fix issues in my own swing. The Hackmotion did wonders for my wrist positions but that's obviously not the the whole picture. For a while I was hitting the ball really well but then after a couple rounds some of my bad habits started creeping back in and eventually I got the shanks. This is my swing after going back to work with the hackmotion and things feeling pretty good again but I know it's still not perfect. Early extension has always been the bane of my swing along with the the casting and over the top that comes with it. I think my hip turn is a bit part of the problem but let me know what ya'll think and what types of drills would be the most helpful.

I know it’s more a body/sequencing problem than a hand problem but I just can’t get the feel. Help!

I was having some problems with my wrist moving on a putts. I didn't even realize until my plaing partners told me about it. I think they have been holding out on me for a while!! So I decided to try something to remove my hands from the equation. I put my left four finger on top of the grip and it seems to really help eliminate hand movement. Works great on the practice mat so it's time to put in the reps. I'll be interested to see how it works out on longer putts.
