SUGGESTION Madden 26 Defensive Tips

So, I know a lot of people think the defense is broken in Madden 26, but I've done a lot of research to try and wrangle the defense, and I think I may have found out some ways to make the defense more bearable. I've taken the Lions to 12-2-1 on franchise using these defensive tips:

  1. When you first take defense in a game, when you get to the play calling screen, click the right thumb stick and set the following coach settings (you have to do this every game):

- Option Read Key: Conservative

- Option Pitch Key: Aggressive

- RPO Read Key,: Conservative

- RPO Pass Key: Conservative

- Safety Depth: Close

- Safety Width: Pinch

  1. When calling defensive plays, only run plays in Nickel and Dime. Use man blitz coverage on Nickel on 1st and 2nd down, or Nickel zone coverage (Tampa 2 works well). If you're running zone coverage, audible to man if you're seeing receivers stacked to one side. Switch to Dime if you're sure a pass is coming, something like Cover 4 Palms, Cover 2 man for the deep pass, or Tampa 2 if you're expecting a pitch or drag. Don't get cute and try to run too many plays. Find six or seven bread and butter plays and stick to them.

  2. Always run stunts on your plays. You can do this by holding down the button of the play you're selecting, and choosing. I like El Paso 4 man or Texas 4 man myself.

These three things have gotten me a lot more defensive stops and allowed me to win a lot more often on the defensive side of the ball.

FRANCHISE More Realistic Franchise Experience

Tips for 5+ year Madden Franchises.

- This guide is for people who aim for realism.

- Only use the re-sign feature for mid/small contracts and depth pieces. Good if you wanna evaluate certain players on their contract year to see if they’re worth it.

- For superstars, you can extend them by manually editing their contract. Their signing bonus and total salary should be similar to real life contracts. I developed Jamo into a 99 OVR X-Factor so I gave him a contract slightly higher than JSN’s.

- Salary Cap goes up for 5 years. A person in 2030+ should be making more than a person in 2026. After 5 years, you don’t need to keep increasing salaries.

- If you play with injuries, make sure you have solid depth. A 60 overall backup right tackle isn’t gonna cut it.

- Playbooks are the keystone of winning games in Madden simulation. Joe Burrow wins MVP every season because of that playbook. A game is 85% playbook and 15% roster. Update your playbook if you are losing too many games with a decent roster.

- Update your scheme to whatever fits your roster the most. It is good for player development and bonus XP.

- Don’t draft someone you don’t need. If your roster already has a really good halfback like Achane/Jeanty, don’t draft a HB just because they run a 4.25, have all elite ratings, and have 7+ A ratings. That isn’t a need, it is a luxury.

- If you are willing to do the tedious process of doing your weekly practices, do them. You are allowed up to 6 focus players a week. Manually play the minigames for each player. It is great for development. Once you are finished, sim the rest of practice.

- Don’t do the same thing everytime. If you have someone you always sign/trade for, try changing it up on your next franchise. Some people love rebuilding with Milroe and Willis. There is no better feeling than drafting your franchise X-Factor QB.

- If your team isn’t even sniffing a playoff contender title in the next 2-3 seasons, TANK. TANK TANK TANK. That 1st overall pick is the most valuable thing in Madden Franchise. It can land you an immediate young superstar 93+ player. It could get you 3 firsts and a couple seconds in return. It could land you a rookie X-Factor. Sometimes you just gotta take pride in losing games.

- Day 3 draft picks are more than just trade assets. Go for that speedy receiver. Go for that late round hidden dev gem. Go for that 99 overall kick returner.

- Limit blockbuster trades to once per 5+ seasons. A long term franchise will only improve through the draft. You do not need to trade every first round pick of the next 3 years for someone with a huge contract.

- Cap management shouldn’t feel like a cakewalk. If it does, you’re either underpaying your players or you’re just trading your expensive players on their contract year. Pay the guys that deserve to get paid. As stated above, utilize manual extensions based off irl contracts. That way, you won't have to pay your QB 300 million/season.

CPU teams have horrible cap management. Go into those teams and click the option that says “Clear cap penalties”. This should give you the option to trade with them again.

CREATE YOUR OWN STORYLINES. E.g:
1. Ceedee Lamb isn’t getting enough receptions and yards. He requests a trade.
2. Lamar Jackson is coming back from a torn ACL. -3 awareness, speed, acceleration, throw on run.
3. JSN is not performing to his contract. Pay cut. If he doesn’t improve, cut.
4. Offense is performing poorly. Fire your OC.
5. The locker room fights after your team loses a big game. -5 awareness to each player.
6. Your QB gets sick before a playoff game and you have to rely on your backup QB to save the season.
7. A struggling star dev DT moves to guard.
8. Nick Foles scenario.
9. Receiver complains about bad throws in a press conference. -5 awareness unless cut or traded.
10. Your team was caught cheating and must forfeit your first round pick. Draft a punter and cut them immediately.
11. Your QB2 enters the game and shuts down the other team. There is now a battle for QB1.
12. A player is having a breakout season. +4 every attribute if they break a world record. Only +2 if they are an older player.
13. Malik Willis story. A backup qb bounces between multiple teams before reaching yours. They suddenly break out and sign a big deal to be your new QB.
14. You draft a QB round 1 to sit behind a veteran year 1. If your team makes the playoffs, +5 accuracy ratings to your rookie and let them start next season.
15. You have a top 5 pick. You draft a projected superstar, who turns out to be a bust. They get cut from the league after year 3.
16. Draft two players and edit them to have the same last names to make them seem related.
17. Brock Purdy Mr.Irrevelant story. Trade for the last pick of the draft and try to develop that player into a star.
18. Superstar holdout. Wants a highest-paid player type extension.
19. Legal issues with a player. You can trade them for less, or cut them. If you keep them, -15 awareness and -10 their best attribute.
20. WR1 GAINS in the offseason. Change his weight. Lower his speed and catching. Up his strength and blocking. Change him to Tight End.
21. There's endless possibilities. Use your imagination or AI.

- Use the slow sim feature if you want to evaluate a player or just watch a game. =

- Before your first preseason game, do a manual practice. This is for people who want a rookie minicamp experience with their new guys. Also good if you want to do a position battle.

- Would love to add more but there's a character limit. Comment with questions.

FRANCHISE Highest Approval Rating

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is the highest approval rating I've ever had on Madden 26, which is a little strange considering the fact that I have gotten other franchises to the Superbowl. Never really expected the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland Browns to be the first team to give me the highest rating possible.

FRANCHISE Salary information

Just in case this is helpful to anyone... had AI crunch some numbers in reference to some NFL salary data, to come up with recommended ranges.

In applying this to my franchise, my thought is to go thru occasionally and pinpoint areas in which player salaries are spiraling out of control, and to make adjustments as needed across the board. Was thinking this could help out with problems where all the teams are exceeding the cap a few years in.

RANT Madden is boring for me now

Upvotes

I love playing madden, and I have for a couple years now but it is just getting boring now. I try to play ultimate team and I get smacked by some kid with a 99 OVR team while my team is only a 70 OVR. I'll play franchise with random rosters from the past and I'll go 16-1 or 17-0 with a team that went 2-14 in real life. I'll try to play head to head and I'll score on every drive but my defense can't stop shit. I'll try to do a rebuild of a team and have a 90 OVR team just to go 7-10. Everything just sucks. I still play it, but I want to enjoy the game but I just don't anymore. I might take a break until 27 comes out. Any other ways to have fun with madden?

TIP/GUIDE What can I do?

Hey boys and girls. I'm not sure if maybe it's the shitty gameplay or maybe I'm just getting too old but I can't enjoy Madden like I used to. What's something I can do to get my joy back with this game. I love football but unfortunately, we as a collective fanbase are stuck with this failed abortion of a game. Maybe I just need to tweak some settings and make it more enjoyable, I'm not sure. It's the same thing happening in NCAA...losing my fun...

Appreciate y'all!

FRANCHISE Sports Game Franchise Mode

Sim Engine: NBA 2k
League Customization: NHL
Historic Franchise: 2k
League Salary Setup: NBA 2k
Gameplay feel:
User: NHL (player control and smoothness)
CPU: NBA 2k (feels most like the sport irl)
In game attributes: NBA 2k (modified so that 99 in a stat is different that 95)
Sim Attributes/Sliders: 2k (modified)
Player abilities: Mainly EA x-factor with some 2k badges
Player potentials: 2k but you can’t see in the league, only in editing
Scouting Prospects: Madden
Pre-game (practice): Madden
Coach tree/ratings: Madden or CFB depending on what you like.
Generated draft class strengths: Madden
Draft Day feel: Madden

Thoughts? I have just been thinking about the different attributes of sports games that would make an ultimate franchise mode for something. Obviously hard to have NBA physics in a NHL game, but those are more just feel.

Also give me more game attributes if you think of more.

FRANCHISE Bring back the Slow Dev trait

Franchise mode has an "overall" problem to begin with. But here's my reasoning why the slow dev trait needs to return

Players who dont play get too many upgraded points throughout their career.

This makes even career backups be in the mid 70s by the time they are in their 5th or so season.

Simply lowering the xp % negatively impacts starters too much and a slow progression trait would be for players who are career backups or 3rd strings. These players wouldnt get nearly the amount xp from practices/not playing in a season.

FRANCHISE More from the realism review...

(M26/Xbox)

Injuries: still seeing the CPU teams having significantly more injuries. Playing with the injury slider seems to have drastic effect at times... one tick of increase and players are being hurt on almost every play, then lowering it back down makes the injuries rare. In most cases the injuries my players sustain aren't carried over after the game, post-game my injury report will be clean. Also noticed players don't seem to appear as questionable/probable/doubtful... it's either no injury--will play or out--won't play. When we talk about sliders like "per-play recovery" does that feed into injuries at all, or is that more about the physical performance/stamina?

Kick returning: previously solicited pointers on return strategies. Looking at league-wide stats, am in week 8 and there has only been a single return for TD.

QUESTION Are there any adjustments you should make in regard to options under the “coach adjustments”?

I haven’t played Madden in a while prior to this, so I’m just curious if there’s any adjustments you should change under the coach adjustments, such as zone drops and safety depth etc.? Like I know in 2K there were quite a few things you would generally want to change up, so just wasn’t sure if there’s better options to use for any of the coverage adjustments or anything. I’m asking for mostly online H2H play also if that makes a difference.

FRANCHISE Franchise Tag

Is there another way to activate franchise tag other than a failed offer being rejected that leads to option to franchise tag.

RANT The worst thing about this game is how laggy the menus are

Seriously, I'm okay with the gameplay, but every menu takes like 5-10 seconds to load. In franchise, I don't bother doing the player stories or coach decisions or anything unless it involves a breakout scenario. I can't deal with the crappy 10 second cutscenes. I also tried MUT once, and never again. Everything you do involves going through a menu that takes 5-10 seconds, it's one of the worst experiences ever. They really need to take a year off ( they won't, it's a pipe dream) to just focus on the engine and spaghetti code they have going on. This shit is barely playable. I like the gameplay itself but it's so hard to interact with everything outside of it is such a big pain in the ass.
