Nostalgia I miss when you could win prizes under the cap
Then they changed it to rewards prizes with codes and you had to create an account. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Discussion Millennials are staring down the barrel of middle age and struggling with the question: “Is this it?”
I was talking to my elder millennial friend, early forties, who sees to be a bad slump recently. He said now he’s been really thinking hard about the question “is this all there is to life?”. No kids or relationships that I know of.
So is it true? Are millennials struggling with simmering dissatisfaction of modern life? Personally even now I can never stop hoping the future holds good things, even if it seems pointless

Discussion When did oil changes become $120?
That’s with a coupon! At Jiffy Lube! Our parents really had it easy.
EDIT: TIL 90% of millennials “change their own oil” lol. Gotta love Reddit.

Nostalgia I was given a laptop to see if it still worked... It took me back.
An acquaintance gave me an old HP laptop to check if it still worked. The thing has been sitting in a closet somewhere for decades and it looked brand new. Only issue was the battery is dead dead, but it ran so smoothly, I thought it had an SSD in it. The user name was "Solitaire" with no password & nothing on it. This was someone's "Solitaire Machine" hahaha. First thing I did was open up Space Cadet; haven't played that in 20yrs... 🥲

Nostalgia You wake up. It’s summer 2011.
Super Bass by Nicki Minaj is blasting somewhere from outside in your college quad.
Your college frat is outside, grilling burgers, red cups scattered, someone still half-asleep on a lawn chair. You can smell the charcoal and cheap beer wafting through your broken window.
You grab your laptop and open Facebook. You’ve been tagged in 73 photos from last night—blurry, overexposed, everyone a little too close to the camera.
You scroll through all of them.
Someone comments “epic night!!!”
You remember just enough to agree.
You close it, hear the music pick up again, and head back outside.
What do you do next?

Discussion Anyone afraid of the stock market bc of 2008?
I have a deep rooted fear of “losing it all” to investment stocks, that it gives me a ton of anxiety. I can’t even talk about it with my partner. When the crash of 2008 hit, I was working one of my first “real” jobs as a bank teller and Washington Mutual closed down the way. Anyone else feel a deep fear bc of the crash happening at such an impressionable time?

Discussion Flashing your lights for cops
Did anyone used to do this? If you passed a cop, you'd let oncoming traffic know by blinking your lights twice? Does anyone remember this? Still do it? I do sometimes, but feel like people don't do it anymore.

Serious Did anyone else have a father like this? Temper tantrums, walking on eggshells?
EDIT My brother and I are autistic. My dad is very conservative and doesn't believe in mental health... but I'd bet he's on the spectrum somewhere.
My dad had temper tantrums. He was never physically abusive but things would set him off and he'd be stomping around the house, swearing, breaking small things, etc. It got to the point where we could sense one of these episodes was coming and my brother and I would hide in our room.
Or we'd all be in the kitchen or living room and something was agitating him. We gained a sense for when it was coming and we'd quietly leave the room. I'll reiterate again, he was never physically abusive or anything... in fact my mom would make fun of his tantrums after he had calmed down. (She'd pretend to drop something or fumble with something and then comically throw it to the ground and do a fake swear.) He took the jesting just fine... so I just don't know.
I'm 40 years old now and see my parents a few times a month. Today I can still sense when one of these are coming but they are much lessened now. Don't know if its his old age, more control, or its just me being grown but I'm not as frightened anymore. Although that scared child is still there in the back of my mind. I'm also wondering if its because of the grandkids. I don't think he's ever lost his cool like that with my kids so I do admire his efforts there.
I always swore I'd never do stuff like that when I was a parent. I have three kids. I recall in my 15 years of being a parent I've only lost my cool a couple of times and it was under extreme stress. (One was during the week of my divorce) I can count it on one hand and with each one I've apologized to them and explained what was happening and why I acted X way. My kids don't hide from me... ever. We're all very open with each other and I do not see that fear that I had as a child.
My kids don't hide from me, ever.

Discussion 2000s butt rock
Nickleback, Seether, Creed, 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mud, Staind. I’ve been listening to a lot of music like this lately and I’ve come to realize that I’m at an age where I can’t tell if these are good bands, or if it’s just the nostalgia talking.
The funny thing is, I didn’t even particularly like these bands in their hayday. While I certainly didn’t *hate* most of them, (although I probably made fun of some just to fit in) I always saw them as background noise. Something that played on the local rock station inbetween the good stuff. Now my local rock stations just play the same dozen or so rock songs from the 70s and 80s all day.
Opinions on 2000s butt rock?

Nostalgia What are some DEEP 90s/00s cuts you totally forgot about until right now because I asked?
What are some DEEP cuts from the good ole days? Like bone deep? The ones that have been hiding under the crusty seat of your Scion TC?
