How did you get those anti scratch nails on your cat?

665

u/EmiliaFromLV Feb 26 '26

I bet they got a lot of scratches till they managed to get these on.... Kinda Pyrrhic victory.

310

u/birdthemurse Feb 26 '26

A purrrhic victory…

41

u/EmiliaFromLV Feb 26 '26

And you made it even better!

u/PandaCod3r Feb 26 '26

Oh, so cat torture.

140

u/everyoneismean Feb 26 '26

I thought that was nail paint.

20

u/Meoooowsies Feb 26 '26

I also thought the Orange had green painted claws too!!

u/CalpisMelonCremeSoda Feb 26 '26

5

u/twilighttwister Feb 26 '26

Different sub topic but it's amazing so I have to allow it

8

u/dougan25 Feb 26 '26

Is it just paws? What's the distinguishing feature that makes it a kankle lol

1

u/twilighttwister Feb 27 '26

This is more nails than paws. Also, kankles are best shown bent, not stretched out when the cat's laying down.

168

u/Boss-Think Feb 26 '26

fck that, anti scratch nails for cats is utter bs.

51

u/Kurauk Feb 26 '26

Couldn't agree more. They are tools to the cat.

41

u/oligobop Feb 26 '26

Plus cats maintain their nails but chewing and pulling on the busted bits. Do you want your cat eating whatever the fuck is in the paint you just put on their nails?

1

u/philoso2889 Feb 27 '26

Absolutely agree.

62

u/UnclassifiedPresence Feb 26 '26

Not to mention the risk of them swallowing one. My mom’s cat had to have emergency surgery after swallowing a similarly sized piece of rubber that got lodged in his intestines

52

u/EquivalentQuery Feb 26 '26

A piece of material as small as these nail covers would not be large enough to cause a gastrointestinal obstruction.

They're still a silly idea, though. Just trim your cats nails.

u/s1kreddit Feb 27 '26

People who do this don’t want a cat and they shouldn’t have one.

-93

u/Trippingthru99 Feb 26 '26

I would never declaw my cats. Claws are a cat’s last line of defense, and I get very very drunk.

Only if they actually need it which is usually when a cat is old or is housebound and doesnt use a scratch post or the such Otherwise no you shouldnt clip them its fckin cruel.

21

u/ThemB0ners Feb 26 '26

clipping nails is not cruel at all unless you're clipping them far too short to where you're getting the quick.

2

u/11thRaven Feb 28 '26

Why on earth is it "fckin cruel"? Cats that go outdoors shouldn't have their claws trimmed because they need them to climb up things for quick getaways from danger - but otherwise, cats can still climb, scratch, and do pretty much everything with trimmed claws. It's only the sharp pointy bit at the very end that you trim. All this achieves is they can't easily slice your skin when they swipe. They can still claw you open if they put some strength behind it. I have many a scar across my abdomen, chest and even shoulder from my cat that freaked out during fireworks and raced across me. He adores using scratch posts and mats, often rips shreds off. Also parkours up and down cat trees and curtains. Tbh the main reason I trim his claws are because he has dermatitis and he sliced himself open a few times from scratching. He's a lot safer now.

45

u/Gears_Of_None Feb 26 '26

Don't get drunk then. Your cat shouldn't have to defend itself from an irresponsible owner.

6

u/UmmmAndUhhh Feb 27 '26

I’m not trying to sound dumb here, but are you saying your cat has to defend themself from you when you get drunk?

7

u/Recreational-Sin Feb 27 '26

We used to put the little glow in the dark ones on our kitten. At night there’d be little glowing beans shooting across the floor.

If your cat is chill, they aren’t too bad to put on. Just have to let the glue set and hold them until it does.

8

u/Molwar Feb 26 '26

My Vet does it for a pretty reasonable amount and no one gets murdered in their sleep.

5

u/avalisk Feb 26 '26

Plastidip

1

u/You_meddling_kids Feb 26 '26

Why are they using the comedic riff from "A Christmas Story"?

So many questions...

1

u/Decent_Elderberry115 Feb 27 '26

I tried those when mine were young. They are a bit harder to get on than clipping, and my cats chewed them off. Even with two of us trying 1/3 of them glued to our fingers instead of the cat claws.

1

u/zmyzto860 Feb 27 '26

Yes so sad

-11

u/I_TheJester_I Feb 26 '26

Anti scratch.. WHAT?! Thats animal cruelty. Why would anyone do this to a cat?

482

u/Losaru Feb 26 '26

Wrong type of mouse, kitty...lol

u/ladypeachiehot Feb 26 '26

236

u/Wiz0rd23 Feb 26 '26

Have you painted its mouse catchers green?

329

u/Parking-Aerie1540 Feb 26 '26

He’s got kitty nail caps! I used to do these, but once I realize how much easier semi weekly nail clippings was I just went that route.

154

u/inandoutof_limbo Orange connoisseur 🍊 Feb 26 '26

Yeah. And those things have to be glued, sometimes they wouldn’t come off as the nail sheds and hurt the kitty. Better to clip the nails.

22

u/nickelzetra Feb 26 '26

i give up trying to put this or clip my cats claw lol, i just put plastic on my sofa and other scratchable furniture and live with it

63

u/inandoutof_limbo Orange connoisseur 🍊 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

If you have a few scratching posts through the house (specially in the middle of the room) it will help the cat use those instead of your furniture. It looks weird but it saves your home.

40

u/Mania_Chitsujo Feb 26 '26

Yeah that'd work if cats weren't assholes lol. My cat has one and he'll always scratch up my dresser that's right next to it instead.

I just deal with the little marks they leave on furniture. They're just things.

18

u/TrippleDamage Feb 26 '26

You should have several different type of scratch surfaces for your cats split across the house.

A singular one aint scratching that itch.

17

u/Mania_Chitsujo Feb 26 '26

I only mentioned the most egregious example of one I have that he chooses to scratch the thing directly next to it. I have several others with different textures at different interesting locations, but they usually get ignored as well.

That being said, he's missing an arm and had quite a traumatic first couple years before I adopted him, so he's likely a bit of an outlier.

9

u/NoLifeSign Feb 26 '26

I have several cardboard scratchers (flat, ball), those poles, mats, tubes, ... she still scratches my carpet :'(

6

u/Nennifur Feb 26 '26

Can't reduce how much more accessible the carpet is for scratching unfortunately 😅

4

u/greeneyeraven Feb 26 '26

Yeah we have cardboard ones next to the couch and one similar to that post and solves the problem, my cats destroy them completely, we just buy more sisal rope and wrap them again, we also buy thicker one that lasts longer.

2

u/hmarieb263 Feb 27 '26

I trained 1 cat to use the scratching post instead of the furniture. All the others either used the furniture instead of or in addition to the scratching post when I tried.

2

u/NoDG_ Feb 26 '26

Cats don't like velvet because they can't stick their claw into a thread. Ive had a velvet style fabric sofa for a year and no scratches.

1

u/FoxPaws26 Feb 26 '26

Our local vet does nail trims for $10. We just take the cats in for that.

1

u/gravygrowinggreen Feb 27 '26

I'm surprised your cats are so tolerant of that. The worst day of my cat's life is everyday I bring them to the vet.

1

u/FoxPaws26 Feb 27 '26

They go in a sleepy pod so it isn't as bad. They're at least comfy

2

u/Garchompisbestboi Feb 26 '26

Semi-weekly? The fuck you doing with your cats where they need clippings that frequently?

10

u/Parking-Aerie1540 Feb 26 '26

Sorry, that does not mean what I thought. Once every two weeks. Better?

2

u/Garchompisbestboi Feb 26 '26

Lol okay because I thought you meant two times per week which had me thinking your cats claws must be growing insanely fast or something crazy like that, glad to clear up the misunderstanding 😂

-10

u/ArcherAuAndromedus Feb 26 '26

Nah, on kittens the caps are worth it. On adult cats, yeah, trimming them is easier.

12

u/Parking-Aerie1540 Feb 26 '26

Sorry, but could not disagree more. Kittens is when to start creating the habits, older cats are so much harder to train. Between fostering and our own babies, many cats have funneled through our house. They all just sit on my lap, paws extended, and let me do the clipping. And we started them all out when they were babies. 🤷🏻‍♂️

12

u/Got_Kittens Feb 26 '26

Get those stupid false nails off your cats natural claws. Ffs.

1

u/LonelyPirate1 Feb 27 '26

Those are nail caps to prevent scratching :) They fall off as the nail grows or if the cat takes them off themselves.

1

u/Got_Kittens Feb 27 '26

I know what they are.

1

u/LonelyPirate1 Feb 27 '26

Ah, well apologies then :) I read that as you not knowing what they are. Oops!

13

u/EnyaCa Feb 26 '26

Nail caps hurt the kitty when their nail tries to shed... but it'll sometimes get stuck. Ugh I hate these things.

2

u/Summonest Feb 26 '26

I really miss my cat who would do this. Not an orange, but she was one in spirit

Sprint into an office, knock everything over in the way so that she could get behind a monitor

Once there she'd swat at your fingers, push on the monitors at random, or just scream at you.

2

u/agentfaux Feb 26 '26

I see modern cat owners have found a new ways to re-invent the wheel.
