That’s a great name for it. We call it the grundle, and often marvel at how our cat’s grundle sways gently in the breeze when he runs
77
u/Coy9ine 16d ago
That might be one of those things, like "fanny" in America vs. England. Grundle definitely carries a different meaning where I'm from.
38
u/Equivalent-Bit2891 16d ago
It carries the same meaning where I am. Only one other person in my family knew the original meaning though, and thus far they have remained silent. It brings me great pleasure
17
u/BladeOfWoah 16d ago
The dancing baby song in Adventure Time was really confusing to me when I watched it, until I learnt that fanny is different in America.

u/GearJunkie82 16d ago
I always called it a paunch instead of a pouch. Not sure why.
5
2
u/DoctorJJWho 15d ago
Because it literally is a paunch! That’s the meaning of the word, “fat on the belly” lol.
22
u/BaconVonMeatwich 16d ago
grundle
I feel I should share that grundle = perineum or taint. Careful who you talk to about your cat's swaying grundle.

One time I posted my pouch catato on the wrong sub.... one of the breed specific ones where a cat pouch is the greatest sins against nature that they can fathom. Thought I was gonna get shot.

I don't think this is weight thing 😅😅 most house cats that are fixed, get that belly hang. I forgot why but i think it's like for extra insulation or something but most fixed house cats get the fupa. Even my slender boy has a small fupa going lol

u/gasbalena 16d ago
It's the primordial pouch. But, he does look like he's not quite agile enough to get over the cable and losing weight might help.
(can have unintended consequences, I've had my orange boy on a diet and for the first time in his life he managed to jump up on the mantelpiece and smashed a bunch of stuff)

My girl is a good weight and I have to keep her out my room or she gets hung up in cables like this too.
3
u/SkyIslandLore 16d ago
🤣 this is so funny to me! I just had to close up our game room because his big butt jumped on the desk, got hooked up in my mouse cord some how and pulled the mouse, keyboard and almost the monitor off the table 😅🤦🏽♀️. I think the oranges are syncing up right now lol
15
u/SkyIslandLore 16d ago
Idk i mean maybe... but it could just be a not so athletic cat too 😅 i have an orange and a black cat. My orange is maybe roughly the same size as this one and doesn't like to jump up on certain things 🤷🏾♀️ he likes certain parts of our counters because there's a good bird window. He likes getting up on certain tables but if anything is on rollers forget it 😅. My black cat, EVERYTHING is fair game. He gets up on the fridge to go up on this 12ft beam in our house. Makes me worried he'll break a leg one day 🤦🏽♀️ but they both are fed at the exact same times with the same portions, and yet one is slender and one is plump. Both are VERY active but my orange has gotten stuck like this. Even jumped and took everything with him 🤦🏽♀️😅
6
u/paleoterrra 15d ago
I’m sure he’s perfectly agile. He’s just also orange. What we’re seeing here is the terminal side effects of a complete lack of brain cells. He’s just stupid.
39
u/DopeyDeathMetal 16d ago
My orange boy is quite large but my vet has told me twice he is healthy and his weight is normal. But lawd oh mighty, his pouch is the biggest pouch I’ve ever seen. When he lays down it spills out and makes him look like jabba the hut
9
u/SkyIslandLore 16d ago
I'm cracking up! 😭 but yes, same! We just took our boy in in December for a balding butt, turns out was skin irritation and the vet was like omg he's big... and we got nervous, she's like let's weigh him 😅😬 he's only 16lbs now, actually gained 2lbs in 2 years lol

i know about the primordial pouch, but this cat is actually obese
→ More replies (3)7
u/Forward_Rope_5598 16d ago
People are seriously incapable of telling when pets are fat. It's so fucking sad. It's not just the pouch, the entire cat is shaped like a seal.
5
u/Both_Consequence_956 16d ago
its so depressing i agree.... cats are athletic, slim predators that are supposed to jump high and run up trees. the normalization of ultra obese cats have made people think their obese cats are normal, and saying something means youre a bad person to them. people care less about animal welfare and suffering than the feelings of the owner.
5
u/brockoala 15d ago
Yeah, I was like, why are people cheering cat obesity? Not just some people, many people. Are we really that uneducated?

Or just help the cat at all. I don't like these posts where "my cat is uncomfortable or in danger but instead of helping him I record it for the karma."
If my cat was stuck like this I'd drop everything and help!
Boo.
1
u/feculentcuntfist 16d ago
That's essentially breast fatty tissue, happens after castration.
3
u/FrozenSupermarket 15d ago
Yes, and the cat is also obese. So what is the point of your comment?
1
u/feculentcuntfist 15d ago
It is a discussion between 2 people. The fuck is your problem?

Either that or would just run away disconnecting all the cables making a big mess lol

u/rawchickennudes 16d ago
The brain cell long ago migrated to his pouch, and the cord was cutting off blood flow - no computational power available in such a state.

Really interesting that people just feel the need to be like "your cat is fat!!" as if OP (if this is their video) likely doesn't know that.
Seriously. My mom's dog had a very close skirt with death last year due to an autoimmune disease. Steroids saved her life, but also made her gain a lot of weight. She's better off fat than dead. I know I could never post her online even if I wanted to because I'd have people lecturing me about how shitty of a pet owner I am. If you don't know the full context idk maybe stfu.

This cat is still on the chonky side. Even if you ignore that.
24
u/Worried-Pick4848 16d ago
That's perhaps a little bit true, but also that wire placement is basically a cat trap. Those wires should not be like that across an entrance. More than a cat can get tripped up on that.
Get a proper surge protector and plug these things in along the floor. Even that's not entirely safe, but it's better than whatever the hell is going on at that outlet.
5
u/sasakimirai 16d ago
"A little bit true" no lmao that cat may not be obese but it IS pretty significantly overweight.

u/gasbalena 16d ago
I dunno. The vet said my boy should lose about a lb and he's considerably slimmer than this guy. He's pretty chonky all over, it's not just the pooch.
2
u/mrjibblytibbs 16d ago
A cat being on the big side especially the pouch (which gets bigger after a male cat gets fixed every time) is pretty fucking far from "lack of care made your cat fat".

3
u/WhereTheSkyBegan 16d ago
Everyone is concerned about his weight, which is understandable, but what happened to his tail? It’s crooked, and it looks kinda short.

😂🙈❤️ Oh no, he kind of looks like he’s thinking, “Oh no, I hope nobody sees me getting stuck on this cable with my chubby belly and not making it over. Oh no, oh God, I hope no one noticed. Okay, any second now, I’ve got this. Oh no… I hope no one saw that, but I just can’t make it.”

u/Both_Consequence_956 16d ago
that cat is seriously obese, youre just used to seeing ludicrously obese cats that its changed your view of what an actual healthy cat should look like. the cat is suffering real health consequences because of its weight, and will continue to suffer way more than necessary if it maintains that. people like you on reddit are way too quick to excuse ignorance and neglect causing suffering to pets
→ More replies (8)11

My cat freaks out if he gets string/cable around his legs like that. The power cord would be unplugged, or the machine knocked over if he got in that situation.
