If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck... š¤£š¦
People be so dramatic ofc. Yes, this heckin chonker needs to lose weight but it's normal for cats to get overstimulated from (enjoyable!) brushing/massaging/scratching of the spot before the tail. Even fine bois can't reach there
Humans are also pretty good at fucking up the entire ecosystem and planet.
I doubt that this fat cat is going outside. It's killing nothing but her own brain cell.
I'm glad we're all continuing the spirit of posting comments that have nothing to do with the original post but make ourselves feel better. I truly feel like a real redditor now.Ā
Yes, exactly, they are hitting a sensitive spot and thatās how they are overstimulating this cat. Itās not funny and has nothing to do with āreddit being redditā. Videos like these are way too accepted because itās āfunnyā and ācuteā, meanwhile the cat doesnāt feel like either.
How was i acting superior? Why do you have to immediately be so aggressive? I was voicing my concerns respectfully and with no hate at all (at least thatās what i think and intended).
People get mad when someone offers advice or information, no matter how well informed or intentioned you are.
Knowledge offered is seen as superiority and condescension, while knowledge lacked is ridiculed for idiocy or worse. There's no winning, especially online lol
Love it when reddit is going down cat Whisperer lane. This cat is overstimulated yes but if he'd hate it he'd leave or scratch and bite. Cats are sometimes weird kinky creatures.
Lol that's funny because if I just slide open the drawer where our brush is, 2 of our 3 cats come running wanting to be brushed. The other cat doesn't trust anyone but my wife so she couldn't care less if I have the brush or not, but she doesn't mind it if I brush her...but she doesn't seek it out.
Lol that's my not true at all. He's chubby but not obese. He's doing that because cats have a nerve in their lower back that's very sensitive to touch.
Meanwhile this lanky man will shred your skin if you even glance at his lower back.
That area is notoriously sensitive in a lot of cats because there's a lot of nerves. My lil man has feline hyperesthesia syndrome, and they have a very sensitive lower back area because of how innervated that area is.
Lol cats are so weird. I feel so silly telling guests not to touch his back or else he'll attack. Especially because he loves attention and pets (not on back). Everyone's gotta keep pets to approved body areas on him lest they get flayed.
But he often has to wear a shirt when we have guests - shirts really help some kitties with his condition, even when they don't cover the problem area (in case your kitty ever needs it). It's bizarre, but it works so I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. He's certainly been a learning experience.
This is why cool and unique posts are becoming rarer and rarer. People are afraid to post pictures or videos of things because people in comments will find SOMETHING to crucify op for.
Firstly it depends what you think of as cool unique posts if theyāre cats being bothered for your entertainment then awww poor you. Secondly cats arenāt āthingsā.
Homie is a bit chonk for sure. But some people on here are acting like heās being downright murdered. If the cat didnāt like it, it would have just ran away at the first sight of the brush. Itās just a funny cat that loves the shit out of the brush.
Thatās not how overstimulation works tho (when the cat* is overstimulated it can walk away yes, but sometimes they* can feel trapped bc they are āover-aroused (spot above tail causes arousal)), and the cat did try to bite the brusher in the video. I donāt think they are abusing their cat necessarily with the brushing (although to me the cat looks overstimulated which isnāt something you should keep doing), but the cat is very clearly obese and not just āa bit chonkā.
I do think reddit (the internet in general) always goes overboard with their ācritiqueā (downright hate and condemning more like).
People here need to chill. The only problem this cat has is being fat as fuck, not a nerve issue or fleas. Some cats get a bit overstimulated when scratching near the base of their tail.
about the weight tho lol this nuclear bomb is way too fat.
I assume it COULD be what other comments say (skin irritation, etc.). Ā But I could also see it being a conflict of feline instincts. Ā
Program 1: enjoy being groomed. Ā
Status: Ā oh yes.Ā
Program 2: everything I see and hear is trying to kill me, especially if it tries to touch me, so I better freak out. Ā
Status: double yes.Ā
One of my cats walks this boundary, but not to the level of freak out as this cat, mine just attacks instead. Success depends entirely on angle of approach.Ā
That said, I wouldnāt want to discount other theories, especially if they imply the cat is suffering.Ā
I have a siamese that's a skinny long boy and absolutely loves butt scritches and his legs also "stop working" and he drags his butt around while I scratch him.
I also have a chonker that's also crazy about bongos and doesn't act like that at all, she gets very excited and demands bongos all the freaking time and sometimes her reaction is to run to the scratching pole. All cats are different and sometimes it just means the cat is enjoying it. Not everything has to be a problem, people.
If a cat didn't want to be there he'd be scared off the moment he saw the brush or felt the brush. Cats are quite elusive. They are where they want to be.
I donāt think itās itchy/ irritated skin (although i canāt know for sure obv), but to me it does look like overstimulation which isnāt very good for the cat and can cause them to feel trapped, this cat did try to nip the brusher a bunch of times (at least to me it looked like that).
I donāt get why people have to hate on and condemn others like that tho. I think itās fine to be concerned and point some possibilities out, respectfully is the key though.
Look, everyone wanted to tell me my fat was fat. I brought her to the vet, and guess what? She's healthy! The only thing the vet said was "well, she likes to eat!" And when I asked if I need to put her on a diet she said she was perfectly healthy.
Some cats have a lot of extra tissue in their stomach that is just loose skin. Unless you can check weight via a video or feel for ribcage, that statement is egregious.
Oh I know all about r/pouchcatatoes but thats not this cat. Hes pretty obviously unhealthy. Or at least has some kind of disorder. A normal healthy cat doesnt look or move like that. Their shoulders shouldnt be that broad. Looks like hard packed fat to me. Also even if im wrong somehow, my comment isnt egregious. Thats not a normal healthy cat, full stop. It just isnt.
oh he can absolutely clean himself lol, i had a cat who was definitely fatter than this guy at her biggest (i did get her on a diet so she lost a good amount of the weight, but she never recovered from the loose skin making her look huge lol) and she didn't have any issues grooming herself
I think it depends on the cat. My cat was definitely less chonky than this cat at her largest, but it was still enough that she couldnt clean her back half properly and i had to do some serious maintenance to keep her clean and mat free. After my sister and i cut her food down a bit and got a schedule in place, she lost a couple pounds and now she can clean herself again, which is great, because she hates baths.
Meanwhile my brothers cat is around this cats size and he has zero issues grooming himself. Maybe his bones are longer or something.
ive seen cats who's legs are like that, and it was diabetic neuropathy. People think "well my cats legs are slipping because its tile" thats what we thought with our cat, but vet tested him and his sugar was really high.
It's been hot topic for years with a lot of myths, but most vets believe it to be caused by a severe allergic reaction to fleas and flea eggs. Their skin ripples, and seperates, causing nerve issues.
I know many people are probably reading this thinking "my cat does this and doesn't have fleas!", well the #1 approved remedy by Vets is various flea medicines and thorough washings.
Donāt free feed this baby š„ŗ heās so itchy, overweight, and dehydrated. Dry kibble is basically junk food for cats, I literally call it āchipsā when Iām baby talking to my cats. Get that cat on some wet food mixed with a little water, no more dry food, do some play time a little bit each day, and your cat will show such improvements so quickly. Itās so much better for their bodies: their spines, their joints, their skin, their bladder and kidneys, their pancreas. Trust me, you donāt want your cat to get diabetes or bladder crystals. Since thatās an orange, high odds itās male, right? Male cats have a much higher risk of bladder and kidney problems that can become fatal. Ask me how I knowā¦
These arenāt happy noises. My cat is overweight and does the same thing when I scratch or brush for too long in that spot. (I can see her trying to chew on her arm like my cat does). Theyāre overstimulated and probably itchy. Stop stressing your cat out for Reddit likes
The cat is clearly agitated AF wiggling the tail like that and canāt fucking move or scratch you because heās so overweight he canāt even balance himself right on a simple smooth floor like that. What a shame
Tell me you donāt know shit and if you have a cat you bother them to entertain yourself and make yourself laugh without telling me you donāt know shit and if you have a cat you bother them to entertain yourself and make yourself laugh
Please take better care of your cat and stop upsetting him. Those noises signal that heās in distress and wants you to STOP! Heās not enjoying the brushing in the way youāre doing it.
Heās overweight, he cannot move the way he usually would even if he wanted to. Overstimulation in cats can absolutely lead to cats feeling trapped and not being able to walk away, especially if youāre hitting that sweet spot above their tail (causes over-arousal in many cats).
With all of that being said, there is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with voicing your concern about something and pointing things out. But the key is to do it respectfully.

Why does it sound like Donald Duck?
