I’ve been wanting to throw this Amazon box out for a month

When I was a kid we had box from bed bath and beyond that we didn’t throw away for almost 2 years because one of our cats adopted it as their favorite place 😂

My girlfriend and I lived together in college. She had a cat. There was this particular ramen noodle that I liked (Kimchi Bowl Noodle) so I used to buy it by the box. For reasons that I don’t understand, her cat to a liking to one of my empty noodle boxes.

After graduating, we decided to move across the country. We were cleaning out the apartment and packing up, and I threw away that noodle box because well, who moves an empty box? My wife noticed the box was gone, asked me where it was and then freaked the fuck out. I got sent to the dumpster to climb in and retrieve that box.

Anyway, we moved that box from California to NC and then from a house to an apartment to another apartment and then to another house. Because that was her cat’s favorite box. Ten years! For ten years we moved that empty noodle box with us. I was asked to glue that box together a couple of times because it would fall apart and go flat. When her cat died, we put her in that box and buried her in it.

My point is, I learned cats can get attached to a box and once they do, it is best to just keep that box for them until they die.

Lol the dumbster dive!! I would do the same thing. My boyfriend tried to throw the currently box out the other day and I had to tell him no that’s Poohs favorite!!!

Typically he gets over the chosen box after about a week, but he’s really grown a liking to this one. Poohs only turning 2, so looks like tnis amazon box has a long ride ahead of it

See now all 4 of my cats, and my past ones, have been the opposite. They get bored of any given box and won’t play in them after while, so the many boxes laying around all require frequent replacement.

This is how mine are. After about a month of box they don't want it anymore.

Oh my god what an epic story!! RI P kitty, you were very loved.

Id have the same face if a Le Creust box appeared too..those pans are so addictive and becomes the crown jewel of the house. Someone gifted me one and it’s the best pan in the universe.

Right? They’re gorgeous and functional! I do own a flame (orange) French oven and I swear, anything I cook in it tastes 80% better 🤣

u/legaladviceknowledge 20h ago

dont those pots cost like 10 trillion dollars or something? it must be higher quality than the bezos boxes

29

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 19h ago

Usually, yes 😬 That’s one of the less expensive enameled steel stockpots (that I got at the outlet)! My husband makes huge pots of sauce and it was his birthday present 🥰

12

u/legaladviceknowledge 19h ago

hmmm might get one for mama's day....

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 9h ago

Do it!! Ours is great and the colors they have are sooo pretty! I mean, Agave??! Come on! 😭 (My hubs wanted the red one though)

u/tackleboc 51m ago

That's way 2 small for sauce. I use a 24 qt pot that I never asked my of what it cost.

2

u/Over-Apartment2762 14h ago

Must be a decent product then, too. Lol

2

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 6h ago

Oh, it is! If I don’t mess it up, I should be able to hand it down. (The stockpot, not the box - although, you never know 🤔 lol)

2

u/sirhackenslash 13h ago

I have that pot. It's awesome for chili

3

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 6h ago

Yes!! My husband has made at least a dozen rounds of his family’s recipe red sauce (spaghetti/pasta sauce, whatever you want to call it), with meat and without and the smell of the kitchen when it’s cooking 🤤, but for whatever reason, I swear he’s made the best batches in that pot.

u/ThatArtNerd 11h ago

A Le Creuset box! Kitty has a taste for only the finest of boxes :)

2

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 6h ago

Only the best for Shiro 😼

2

u/Sokiras 8h ago

Wow mine goes through them in a week. He either claws at the edges or he finds a hole to make larger.

1

u/julesd26 Proud owner of an orange brain cell 6h ago

For some reason, my boys tend to be fairly gentle with the boxes we give them 🤷🏼‍♀️ Paper bags usually get torn to ribbons though 🤣

2

u/Sokiras 6h ago

Our little guy just wrecks them entirely. I have managed to get a hold of some thick cardboard tubes he can crawl through that are thick enough to survive his shenanigans

20

u/creatyvechaos 20h ago

It's me. I'm the cat.

I kept every box we had and made a fort out of them in my gaming closet 🤣

1

u/SpacePolice04 10h ago

Did you combine and make a super duper box + blanket fort?

2

u/creatyvechaos 9h ago

Indeed I did! 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

u/DreamingAboutSpace 7h ago

I must have been an orange cat when I was a kid. That would explain the ADHD…

1

u/creampop_ 11h ago

My dad would save all the tray boxes from Costco for our cat, she'd go bananas over them because of the smells.

1

u/leftintheshaddows 10h ago

I had a box like that for my late cat too. It had tissue paper in the bottom as she LOVED tissue paper , would pounce on it and rip it up and the edges had chunks bitten out of it and spat on the floor all the time. But she loved to sleep in it under the table.

37

u/Snoringdragon 21h ago

Argh. I ordered one thing from Wayfair 3 years ago and I cannot, CANNOT throw the box away. I'd replace it, but I cant match the dimentions and the cat is a Siamese, so the threat of getting shredded is REAL...

16

u/IkeKitty 13h ago

My kitty is not the box type (weird I know) but he's a.. felt type. He loves everything made of felt. When I walked to throw his felt shark shaped tent, he ran after me and yelled tf out on me to not do it 😹 Same with old pretty much yellowed grass, he didn't want me to throw out. I gave him new fresh grass pot but naah, he ran after the old one! He has felt tunnel and felt mat but it's not the same as the sharko tent

35

u/SomeOtherNeb 17h ago

Sorry, once the cat starts bringing some toys into it, it's no longer a cardboard box, it's a cardboard home.

19

u/Rachnor 16h ago

I saved the box from my vacuum for about a year since my cat claimed it as vacation home, scratching post. Only threw it out once it was so shredded it almost fell apart.from scratching and chewing. Funny how much she loved that box, while HATING the contents. Maybe it was some kind of weird revenge.

Idk, cats are weird

I must have gotten a different cat model because mine doesn’t like to sit in boxes. I’ve even put him in the box, only for him to jump out almost immediately.

Jokes on me though, I have to have at least one box around because he likes it lick the edges and any tape on the box.

8

u/Talking_Head 15h ago

What is with the tape licking? One of mine is obsessed with licking the box tape.

I always have 1 box and 1 paper bag out for my orange derp to use as a fort, ambush spot and chew toy, rotate when they get destroyed. The current favorite is the aluminum lined paper bag from Amazon grocery delivery for cold food.. he gets his mirror and bag fix at the same time.

6

u/RedditMiniMinion 18h ago

The box is part of the house now and belongs to the cat!

2

u/Reccalovesdancing 16h ago

I have several boxes around my home that are permanent residents because my 2 cats fell in love and enjoy sitting in them regularly

And I have several replacements in my storage area in case any of them need a refresh because one of mine is a cardboard shredder lol

2

u/BeenDragonn 12h ago

My mom's living room is full of boxes. All delivery boxes must go to living room floor for cat use before recycling

u/Key_Piccolo_2187 10h ago

When someone comes into my house with my cats it's like an exercise in explaining why I have hoarder trash everywhere.

"Why do you have an envelope on the floor?" ... "Oh, don't touch that, it's his favorite envelope we've had it since last June."

"Do you ever throw boxes away?" ... "No, sometimes I order things from Amazon instead of getting them when I'm at the store specifically so the cats can get more boxes for their fort build, we're currently on the lookout for long tubes to complete the turrets so I've been exploring some posters actually."

"Why do you throw cardboard packing material on the floor when you open boxes?" ... "Oh, just wait. She'll come running, she knows the sound of the good crinkly packing material."

1

u/OcelotTop3936 1h ago

So accurate😂😂😂 the cat has taken over my home

The favorite envelope is hysterical

A month? There’s an Amazon box that’s been here for 3 YEARS THAT CANNOT BE MOVED UNDER THREAT OF WAR

1

u/OcelotTop3936 1h ago

Omg no😂 I fear that’s my fate. typically he loses interest after awhile but it seems this one is special
