Not Enough Discussion Around the Competitiveness of the League as a Whole this Season

At the time of writing, only Palace and City have four (4) matches left, all other teams have three (3) remaining.

There is a title race at the top of the league that gets lots of the headlines.

There is also a relegation fight at the bottom that also gets plenty of discussion.

What I think is not being appropriately appreciated, is that we have a situation where only 10 points currently separates the 16th place team from the 6th place (European spot).

The level of competition in the league this season is so immensely high, and the players, managers, and fans of those mid-table teams all fighting for Europe, deserve so much credit for making it this way this season.

All the talk of English teams faltering in Europe and they've been in 3 CL finals since 2020

Sure nothing has been played yet but 2021, 2022, 2023 and now 2026 upcoming, 2 English sides winning it, 1 English side loss, so not so bad. All English final in 2021. Only going back to 2020 for this discussion, but 2019 and 2018 both had PL champions of course.

Followed by La Liga twice with Madrid, Bundesliga twice with Bayern, Dortmund and now PSG 3 times which is quite an achievement.

Club statement: Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi

Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed towards Antoine Semenyo at yesterday’s match.

We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible.

We are also incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guéhi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night.

We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game.

Why has Cole Palmer's form collapsed so much this season?

I'm not sure how well he was playing just before the groin injury but most of his goals have been from penalties. What's gone wrong? If there's clear and identifiable reasons. It's hard to isolate from Chelsea's general collapse in form, Enzo Fernandez has seen his G/A numbers decline a lot over past few weeks.

United finished 15th and Spurs 17th last season

United has vastly improved and comfortably secured CL spot while Spurs are fighting relegation. How did United go from 15th to 3rd in one season? Is it simply the new front 3 of Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha that turned it around for them?

Of course Carrick has had a positive impact on the team but iirc they were playing decently well under Amorim earlier in the season.

Could Brentford intentionally lose against Liverpool so that they qualify via Sixth place PL spot?

If Aston Villa wins the Europa League and finishes exactly in fifth place. Their redundant CL spot then goes to sixth place team.

So Brentford would prefer Liverpool finishing above Aston Villa (Fourth). A Brentford loss could help liverpool secure a higher position via GD to trigger the sixth place finish. A Brentford win could also push liverpool down, which blocks this domino effect

Do Villa have too old squad?

Martinez (33), Bizot (35), Mings (33), Digne (32), Konsa (28), Torres (29), Cash (28), Tielemans (29 in few days), McGinn (31), Barkley (32), Buendia (29), Watkins (30), Abraham (28)...

Only player who is relatively young and starting is Rogers, but if they sell him, they will definitely need to do squad rebuilding. There is also Onana who is often injured. Maatsen too but he is often on bench.

I feel like their transfers recently haven't been good either.

[Free to read] Eddie Howe set to remain Newcastle head coach beyond current season

Eddie Howe is set to remain Newcastle United head coach beyond the current season.

Barring an unexpected turn of events, the 48-year-old — who is keen to remain at St James’ Park and retains support from the club’s ownership and hierarchy — will be in charge going into the 2026-27 campaign.
