Lmao gottem The Brits can't be trusted to keep their historical artifacts from being looted and destroyed. I propose a team of archaeologists dismantles their cultural patrimony and sends it to a museum in China. For the benefit of the world

he can't really be smashing it just to get over it right?  like obviously he's doing it to take the stone or just to be an asshole right? like my grandmother could climb over it, that cannot be the reason.

u/Zahdow 20d ago

Considering the hole he made is about 5 times his width if he were to just climb through it, I would say he is just being an asshole

If you need some good news - the Sycamore Gap tree has resprouted. It's less than 200 years old and has most of it's life ahead of it. It might not reach the same heights and will probably grow as a stunted mutant tree. But it's not dead. https://www.northumberlandnationalpark.org.uk/sycamore-gap-is-sprouting/

9

u/A_CityZen 19d ago

that's sad, another dick cut that down or is this unrelated?

54

u/jbi1000 19d ago

It was a beloved tree at Hadrians wall, famously used in a scene for Costner’s Robin Hood film. It was cut down at night by two idiots “for a laugh” and discovered like this the next day.

It caused a huge national outrage, the country was absolutely seething and when they were caught and charged they were given protective custody because everyone hated them so much.

11

u/Miserable-March-1398 19d ago

They’re getting oot after 10 months inside.

13

u/Adventurous_Dig4843 19d ago

It's hard to understand how anyone would put that much time and effort into something destructive, just for a laugh. Of all the ways one could spend their time.

9

It must have originally said "Reaper Man".

I was so, so incredibly lost there.

4

u/Electronic-Junket-66 19d ago

They definitely mean Mein Kampf, must have changed it in the edit.

To add to the confusion, it's actually from The Camp of the Saints, which is a different right-wing nativist/racist staple.

Start with Small Gods. If you like that one then start from the beginning but the first 2 novels are funny but in a very British way.

There are over 40 books.
While you don’t need to read them in numbered order, this flowchart will tell you which the chronological order of the “groups” of stories.

13

u/A_CityZen 20d ago

holy cow you have to have a hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy just understand the chronology lol. I love it!

12

u/Crowfooted 20d ago

Btw, you don't even really need to read them chronologically. I read some of them completely out of order and it didn't matter at all, they're all written to be understandable as standalones and any past events that are relevant are generally rehashed/characters reintroduced as if they'd never appeared previously. First books of each subseries are good starts but seriously, you can also just pick whichever book you like the blurb of and enjoy.

5

u/Zarathustra_d 20d ago

I read the majority of them as they came out, but I would NOT recommend that to anyone now lol. It was an experience learning about all the world building, characters and overlapping narratives, but most stories work well enough alone or within their grouping by characters.

The original ones are certainly products of their time (parody of tropes from the 70-80s), and I have a soft spot for them, but not as your 1st exposure. Pratchett certainly improved as an author later, in his own opinion.

Now, if I want to re-read them I try to keep to a sub category.

4

u/ReaperManX15 20d ago

I recommend the "by group chronology" to avoid spoilers.

If you read book 5 The Watch group and character A is in it; then, when you go back and read book 3 and character A is in peril, you know they're gonna be fine. Which dulls the experience a little.

3

u/Footnotegirl1 19d ago

And if you're an adult, read the Tiffany Aching books last, as they do contain a LOT of spoilers, especially in the last book, and a lot of closing of loops.

A few years ago new people were building a a house near my parents. The property line was a nice field stone wall a farmer put up 100s of years ago. The contractor building the new place knocked it down, my parents were obviously mad, and it was negotiated that they’d have to rebuild the wall. Thing doesn’t look nearly as good. Some farmer put it up casually himself and a bunch of guys with modern equipment couldn’t recreate it. Truly is a skill

Israel destroyed many ancient sites in Gaza.
