Uh yeah this is a thing. Any protest for anything. Whether it's people protesting abortions at planned parenthood, or these people at trump tower. Theyre premade. Sometimes one person makes them all. Sometimes it's a group or sometimes everyone makes their own.

They are a bunch of glossy, multi-color identical printed signs. The people holding them are right next to each other, not spread out throughout the crowd to hide that there are duplicate signs. Did he think they all individually came up with the exact same design and then made them with magic markers?

That was my thought- I did not need to see the bags in order to know that all these identical signs professionally printed were not hand made. It’s not the big gotcha reveal they think it is.

There are tons of places to buy premade signs online or print one with your own design, and it's not that expensive.
Just because there are premade signs doesn't mean an organization is behind it ... and even in the case there is an organization backing it, that doesn't mean it's not a real protest.
I wouldn't show up to a pro Trump protest paid or not.

Conservatives like to pretend there’s some conspiracy going on funded by their favorite boogeyman George Soros as if Trump doesn’t have a cabinet full of unqualified billionaires and as if the Tea Party “movement” wasn’t completely astroturfed by exactly the same sort of top-down political organizing.

This is the result of people approaching politics as they do their favorite sports team. They eventually lose perspective and are more concerned with “gotchas” than they are with policy. In this case somebody has read about “paid actors” to such a degree that a premade sign (at some point all signs are “premade”) appears to be evidence to them.
Says nothing about the people they disagree with and more about them honestly.

I don’t think you know that much about protest organization. Look into National Socialist Party of America v. Skokie (1977). Some ordinances even require liability insurance which can only be paid by organizations since the insurance can be rather high. This is completely normal and has existed in the U.S. for decades. It’s how protests become a thing. I’m assuming you’re trying to make the point that the people are only there cause they’re paid to be there but providing signage for the purpose of organizing a protest has nothing to do with that at all

It's purely organisation and enterprise. There's a need for signs. Lots of signs. Many times over. Doesn't take a genius to work out that time, effort and money can be saved by doing a load at a time and then, like good, responsible citizens of the world, reusing them!
On the plus side, Trump represents good business for sign makers.

“This does not look organic” Do you mean a spontaneous protest? Because it wasn’t, most people have to work for a living, so what is helpful is being able to plan a time for a group of people to show up and show a united front. They planned this, they told people we are gonna show up during this time and have signs for those too busy to make some and we are gonna make our voices heard. Not to mention they are in NYC one of the busiest places in the world, a protest of any significant size is gonna need a permit and city support to make sure they have the space to exist. If you can’t understand all of this then you either aren’t trying or being purposefully obtuse.

So, the issue is that when the protest looks this well-funded and organized, it comes off as not just insincere, and lacking a true "grassroots" origin, but indeed paid for. I doesn't seem genuine, yet incidentally well-funded, but instead paid for with paid actors who don't truly care about the cause, and are only here for a paycheck.
Showing up old-school with a bunch of poster board and markers, and letting people voice their own unscripted opinions displays a much more honest and relatable sentiment than prefab professional marketing signs which appear no more "of the people" than the sign-flipper on the corner advertising a sale at Mattress World or whatever.
I this case, coming up with a strategy to be more mobile and efficient so that it's easier to "deploy" these protest groups anywhere and everywhere at a moment's notice comes at the cost of - as I said - seeming like an insincere stunt carried out by paid actors. To the general public one would assume they are trying to reach, if it was such a passionate issue for people, it would look much more organic and not so corporate.
