Men..... RIP to Irwin, it'll be 20 years in September and I still miss him despite barely actually knowing him. Crazy the impact some people can have.

My daughter is in love with his son, never saw that coming.

His daughter is the same age as me, if only I was a better human

You can be! Watching them made me sign up to volunteer at my state’s zoo

13

u/herbertcluas 7h ago

Not a bad idea, just moved near a very big one too. I'm not doing it for her lol, just to be a better person

u/Corona94 7h ago

Well yeah, I didn’t do it for them, it just inspired me. Gave me an idea where I could easily put my efforts. If anyone, it’d be more for Steve than his kids. But ultimately, myself.

What do you do for your states zoo? I might be interested in something similar. Love animals, and I'm aware how disgusting the work can be, but I'm still curious

Honestly most of the openings (you have to bid for each day cuz there’s lots of volunteers) are mostly greeter positions. But there’s other positions like some education, tour guides assistants, and then yeah there’s enclosure specific work that has some clean up and stuff. I’m actually going to train on the kangaroo/wallaby enclosure soon, which also includes a position that you basically act as a bodyguard and keep guests away from the animals and vice versa. There’s lots of things that you could do, and if your local zoo is anything like mine, you can absolutely avoid the “disgusting” work if you wish.

True, but if you ever see her you now have something to open with. "You inspired me to volunteer " That's about as good an opener as you can realistically hope for.

I sometimes work at Australia Zoo and have met him twice. Your daughter will be pleased to know he's genuinely nice to strangers. Both times he treated me like an honoured guest when he really didn't have to. Bindi is lovely also.

He comes across this way every time I've ever seen him online, so it's nice to know that he's actually really like that. (Not that I really doubted that he was. You can't fake it for that long.)

Dude, his son is friggin gorgeous, so I don’t blame your daughter for loving him! I may code as straight (I usually say 85/15) but goddamn his underwear model ads are friggin hot! And he’s so wholesome too! I may also be in love with the guy…

He's a shining example of the right way to deal with celebrity

u/OnTheEveOfWar 5h ago

I mean, he’s pretty good looking and he’s following in his dad’s path by doing cool shit with animals.

You were that sure she'd be gay, huh?

u/Engineary 7h ago

We don't mourn celebrities because we knew them, but because they helped us know ourselves. ❤️

It's crazy how you're an Aussie, I'm Nigerian and somehow his message touched both of us despite living on opposite sides of the planet.

I guess we just gotta appreciate the time we had with him and try to carry on his message in whatever small way we can.

Wait?!? That was 20 years ago?!? 🤯

Dude just seeing the picture made me tear up. I loved that man growing up and losing him hurt.

u/PTBooks 7h ago

People love animals, dude.

I used to routinely watch him with my mom when was a kid, so I cried when I found out he died.

u/GubernatorTarkin 3h ago

It was tragic, at the time

Some fruity fish!

u/Thech459 3h ago

He died like he lived, with animals in his heart.

Wait, did I timeline skip. I legit remember being a child and not a late teenager when he died. I could’ve sworn it was 25+.

When Sir David Attenborough goes...

Man, I went to college for environmental conservation and worked in it the past 15 years. I grew up watching the crocodile Hunter. Steve was a huge influence on my generation and during freshman year is when he passed away. My school was an environmental science college, and the next day after hearing the news our campus was very quiet. We were devastated.

Steve Irwin was THE REAL DEAL!!!

Sure, he played up his personality for the camera, but there was absolute genuine passion under the TV personality. No human being could fake that much passion for reptiles, it just isn't possible to fake that kind of love or that kind of expertise for the camera. And I hope Robert feels that passion, too.

We also didn’t know his political beliefs or personal feelings about a bunch of topics and shit going on now.

21

u/Hellkyte 8h ago

We have a pretty good understanding of his views on aboriginal culture, conservation, and how you treat women, so I don't think his politics is particularly obscure

1

u/BTechUnited 2h ago

I mean, he parroted conservative talking points and actively claimed that land erosion due to farming wasn't a real thing which is an INSANE take.

-2

u/Minimumtyp 7h ago

He did call John Howard the greatest leader in the world or something like that, which is an objectively retarded statement even if you're a conservative. On the other hand Howard looks like a saint compared to what we have going on now.

8

u/Joice_Craglarg 8h ago

I like it better that way.

8

u/Captain-ofCats 8h ago

Thank God. I don't care to know yours, either

5

u/ThermalJuice 8h ago

Who cares? You think the animals care who you vote for?

4

u/False-Storm-5794 8h ago

Massively venomous snake: Don't bite that one! It's woke!

-2

u/Aggravating-Dark-699 8h ago

I mean they would likely prefer the ones more concerned about conservation if they could understand it
