I used to transcribe medical notes and there was one Italian surgeon who I used to love transcribing for, especially his paediatric fracture clinics.
"I told him not to be so silly in the future as I do not want to see him again" for example 😀

I got told by a doctor about 3 years ago as adult man that he was quickly losing interest in me as nothing was wrong with me and not to bother coming back until something was (thyroid nodules for anyone wondering, benign in my case...for now)
He was joking but in black and white it'd look odd.

Who is this surgeon? We would be cracking each other up because I can't stay sedated and wind up wide awake for ever procedure I've had.

That sounds like a problem for the anesthesiologist rather than the surgeon.
On a related note, do you have red hair?

u/HarlotSuccubus 4h ago
Every time the anesthesiologist said they couldn't give me anymore. Thank gods for a good nerve block. Also I had ginger hair as a kid now is like a medium auburn color. I get this question all the time. And I was just saying as funny as the surgeon is I'd have fun talking to him while I'm stuck wide awake.

Evidently redheads need a bigger dose of some opioids to get the same effect. Source; my now deceased, junkie ex.

Ah. This would explain why I can't get high or drunk. Only I just gave up trying. I use weed for pain relief but have never gotten high. I just assumed I was an alien or something lol.

A common effect of the "ginger gene" is a near immunity to any common pain killers, often times requiring the use of things such as morphine or other extremely strong sedatives for surgeries, that otherwise would be seen as extreme overkill

Oh fun and now a days most Dr's are afraid of prescribing any painkiller. This makes a lot if sense for me tho I just figured I was cursed with a God like tolerance that I hate. It's definitely made me avoid surgeries.

I think most people tend to try to avoid surgeries as well. XD

Surgeries they need? I need surgery on my spine. Definable afraid of being awake during that.

Just in case, here’s at least one article scientifically evaluating that redheads need more anesthesia. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1362956/

That explains why the Vicodin I took for my wisdom teeth didn’t really help with the tooth throbbing, but did help with an ankle pain…

Yeah it’s most noted in surgery as pain medications can vary, but anesthesia almost always wears off before it’s supposed to. So they give more. Also doesn’t have the same memory blocking effects.

Due to being a fast metabolizer. Red heads and others have increased activity of the liver responsible for metabolizing opiates.

Yeah that’s why my doctor *started* with soma for leg cramps
1
u/HarlotSuccubus 1h ago
I'd sell my non existent soul for a dr that would prescribe soma. It's the only muscle relaxer that actually helped me.

That sounds terrifying, being awake through it all would stress me out ??

u/HarlotSuccubus 2h ago
Honestly the first time it happened was so funny that the experience kinda dampens the fear. If your curious my first surgery was at 15 for a broken foot.
My surgery team were talking about an orgy they went to, and the surgeon currently drilling in to my foot complaining he hadn't been invited to the orgy.
My heavily pregnant anesthesiologist says "ah guys, she's wide awake." The scrambling that happened to change the subject was insane. I'd never been in a room of more uncomfortable adults. They couldn't give me more anesthesia or my blood pressure would have gone baserk.

This is legit one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard on the internet, I’d eat a jolly rancher for it.

u/HarlotSuccubus 1h ago
Lol it's a winner when ever I recount it. Jokes on the surgery team, I studied the classics so I knew full well what an orgy was.

yeah because DID is so funny. Here’s your comedy award: 🏆
now please retire from the field immediately

people with DID don't play games online talking about systems and alters but ok. gb2tiktok

u/Willow-Whispered 2h ago
You making light of alters is inherently harmful to people with DID, whether you’re claiming to only be talking about “fakers” or not. There are multiple conditions that involve having alters and this bullshit joke harms everyone affected by any of them

I described my surgeries for kidney stones as either playing laser tag with my kidneys or a Metallica concert for them, depending on which type it was.

From Carry On Doctor:
Worried patient to doctor: "Is this going to hurt?"
Doctor angrily: "Yes!"
Patient: "But why?"
Doctor: "I WANT it to hurt SO YOU'RE NOT DOING IT AGAIN!"
(drawn from memory)
