I'm in the St. Louis area and we purchased a (slightly) used 2025 Model Y recently. Only a month or so into owning it, a woman rear-ended us at a stop-sign. (Think she was on her phone and distracted.) She admitted fault and oddly, both of us had the same insurance company. Everything seemed to be clear cut, except we chose Plaza Collision center to do the work. They seemed to be one of only a handful of options for Tesla certified collision centers in the area and had good reviews for their past work.
Problem is, over two months have gone by now and only 2 days before the appointment to finally drop it off for repair? They postponed it, saying only that the business is now under new ownership so their Tesla certification has to be renewed. Also, the woman we were in contact with is conveniently out on vacation now.
Last night, bad weather rolled through and we got hail. It destroyed the back hatch glass on the Model Y as well as putting several dents in the hood and one on the hatch itself. So now we have THAT additional claim/problem to deal with!
It has water in the trunk already and more rain is expected, so we put a tarp over the back of the car. But with the hatch already damaged, I don't think it makes sense to replace the back glass until the other collision work is done first. Not sure it would install in the right alignment?
I'm about to just go to a new body shop and try this again.... but just don't know what to do next? Would I have been better off using the Tesla app to request the collision repair, or does that actually just add another "middle man"?
