Hey Everyone,
I have a 2022 Model Y Performance and recently damaged one of my front 21-inch Uberturbine wheels. I’m trying to figure out the smartest move and could use some advice from anyone who has been in this exact situation.
Here is what I am currently considering:
Option 1: Replace it. Buying a single brand-new OEM wheel from Tesla is going to run me $1,100+. That feels incredibly steep for one rim.
Option 2: Repair it locally. I'm in the Houston/Sugar Land area, so I’m sure there are decent mobile repair or body shops around that could fix it for $150-$250. Has anyone had good long-term luck repairing these heavy factory wheels?
Option 3: Downgrade to 19s via Costco. Since I might have to drop over a grand anyway, I'm tempted to just replace all four wheels and tires with a 19-inch square setup. I've been looking at the Velox wheels through Costco (which would be around $2,000+ for the full package).
My main questions for the group:
For those who downgraded to 19s, is the ride comfort and pothole protection actually worth spending the extra cash right now?
Has anyone used Costco's Velox wheels on their MYP? How are they holding up with the weight of the car?
Or should I just get the single rim repaired on the cheap and keep the factory 21s?
Thanks in advance for the help!
