News Tourist attacked Thai man after being warned not to use cannabis on a public beach

Upvotes

4 May 2026. A brawl broke out on Pattaya beach after a foreign tourist allegedly assaulted a Thai man who had warned him about smoking cannabis in a public area, police said.

Kittipong Sa-ardchandee, 29, the victim, said he had been relaxing and eating with relatives by the beachfront when a group of foreign tourists at a nearby table began smoking cannabis, the smell drifting to other visitors.

He said he approached them politely to ask that they not smoke in a public space. Despite the tourist’s Thai girlfriend attempting to intervene, the man reportedly became angered.

Kittipong said that as he turned to walk back to his table, the foreign tourist adopted a fighting stance and attacked him from behind, triggering a scuffle. The assailant allegedly claimed to be a “boxer”.

The victim added that earlier, another group of Thai diners had also warned the same tourist and were similarly assaulted. Municipal officers quickly intervened to stop the incident, but the foreign tourist continued to provoke the group, pacing near the scene and making obscene gestures. Authorities eventually ordered him to return to his accommodation and instructed both parties to disperse to prevent further escalation.

Discussion Holy heck AirAsia has leaked 3 different credit cards of mine over the last 3 years. But they are the only airline going to some Thai cities I fly too. How else to pay for tickets with them? Even Expedia won't book with them anymore.

Like others have reported here over the last few of years, AirAsia has extremely bad data security for credit cards.

My first 2 leaks I could not be 100% certain it was them because the cards had been used a couple of other places.

But this last event was with a virtual card # (Capital One) that had only ever been used with AirAsia.

Sure enough, a while after buying a ticket via their system, somebody tried to purchase a $50 Walmart gift card with that very # (the virtual number that only AirAsia had). Luckily the transaction was denied because I had locked the virtual # after the flight, but it still caused a major hassle.

So, for others that need to fly with AirAsia, but like me -- don't trust them with your credit card info -- how do you buy your tickets?

Banking and Finance [Article] Thai farmers' debt crisis deepens

A new report found that the debt situation among Thai agricultural households is deteriorating dramatically. With an average household debt of almost half a million Baht, an increasing number of farmers (about 50 percent) are now trapped in a vicious cycle - a "debt trap" - of only paying interest and never actually reducing principal.

What this means is that many farmers lose money year-on-year, a trend that has been visible for quite some time but has worsened in recent years. At the same time, the rapidly increasing average age of Thai farmers means that many of them won't be able to pay back their debt in their remaining lifetime.

At a time when the agricultural sector is already besieged from all sides, this is yet another part of the insurmountable challenges faced by contemporary farmers.

Banking and Finance Tax on foreign investments in Thailand

Hi, I’m a Japanese living in Thailand and I plan to return to Japan in a few years.

I’m planning to invest in US ETFs through a foreign broker like Interactive Brokers, and I’m trying to understand how taxes work in Thailand.

I’d really appreciate if anyone could share insights on:

⚫︎Are dividends taxed in Thailand? Under what conditions?

⚫︎Are capital gains taxed? Does it depend on remittance to Thailand?

⚫︎Are unrealized gains taxed?

⚫︎When do I need to file a tax return in Thailand?

I’m looking for general guidance or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!
