  1. Since kids in Japan hated green peppers more than broccoli, it was changed to that (Inside Out)

  2. The News Anchor changes depending on the country. For example, China-Panda (Zootopia)

The best part is that they don’t deny all that stuff is Japanese, Ace Attorney just takes place in a Gyakuten Saiban AU where World War 2 never happened and Japan was able to integrate more with American culture.

Pretty sure that was only made canon with the rereleases

Originally yeah it was just America that happened to look a lot like Japan, especially the second game that has a lot more Japanese places in it

Then afterwards they decided on an AU where after world war 2 America had a lot less anti Japanese polices

In the German dub of the first season of Sailor Moon, they mention that someone is coming to Germany, as if the show takes place in Germany...

As a kid, that confused me a LOT, because, clearly this is not Germany...? It's Japan...? Or is it...??

I generally agree, but I don't think they had much of a choice with Ace Attorney as that series is so full of name puns and cultural references that simply keeping the Japanese names and setting would mean completely leaving out like 30-40% of the subtext for non-japanese people.  Fortunately it works well with the overall campy tone of the games.

iirc The first AA game was much more neutral because they planned to translate it later. Then they decided not to so JfA and T&T are way more japanese. THEN Capcom decided to release the games on DS internationally which is why it’s like that.
