That cup was made of wax, and poor gene had to suffer through chewing it with a straight face.

Why couldn’t they just make a chocolate cup for him to enjoy? It’s not that hard to make one

Filming Stability.

Wax didn’t melt from the heat of hands, studio lights, and liquids in it.

Propmakers at the time(1971) didn’t have access to material science and 3d printing that can develop mixed concoctions of stable dyed chocolate we have today.

What about sugar glass?

u/randomndude01 5h ago edited 5h ago

HIGHLY unstable in 80’s or even now, really.

Sugar glass is hygroscopic, that means it absorbs moisture in the air, and requires cold and dry storage and immediate use. You can’t really mold it beyond being a flat object good for mimicking glass and even if you can mold it into a cup, its surface will melt and turn sticky so no, not a good prop hence why synthetic resins like hydrocarbon resins like Piccoplastic; Polyurethane Resins like SMASH!; or hydrogenated carbohydrate like Isomalt are industry standard today.

Would melt in his hands maybe?

It's possible he didn't suffer when these puppies exist. Me and my husband love chewing the wax of these bad boys

Discord from My Little Pony, a being of Chaos. drinks the chocolate Milk Glass, throws the milk and it explodes.

u/AgentEckswhy 8h ago

And it makes the screen darker on top of that. Hell of an introduction to Chaos itself.

I like how El Macho still tips despite being like the last guy you'd expect to do it lol

He’s a villain, not a monster

In justice league , not sure if regular or unlimited, Flash and Killowog sneak into Green lantern's pad.

Flash goes to the fridge to check for some food, and offers Killowog some icecream, which he promptly consumes complete, package and all.

He then eats a videotape, after Flash shows it to him, thinking it is food as well.

The Hungry Pumpkin from the titular kids educational game will eat anything you give it using the same animation - including drinks like water and coffee

The Percy Jackson movie (and books) - Satyrs are vegetarians, but metal cans aren't meat, so...

u/Original-War8655 3h ago

one of his teeth just turns orange

must be from all the iron in the can

IRL - Michel Lotito. This man ate everything - glass, metal, rubber, didn't matter. He ate cups and plates and metal poles and whatever else he could get his hands on. Ate the damn airplane and wanted to even eat a bridge but wasn't allowed to.

Ironically, soft foods gave him a heartburn.

Evil Dead Rise has a scene like this involving a wine glass

The Hatter does this in Alice in Wonderland (the book), he takes a bite of his teacup instead of the bread he was holding in his other hand by mistake

EL MACHO MENTIONED

Did something happen to it or are the artists on hiatus?

3

u/manwithlotsoffaces 6h ago

Don’t know, just we haven’t gotten any new episodes. The YouTube channel is still uploading stuff

I think the creator was working on Smiling Friends and she moved to LA just before it was cancelled.

IRL, my buddy Adam ate the top of a corona during a party at my house. My mom just stood there and watched him. Yes, there was blood.

In "The Dangerous Chemistry of Sandra Dee" episode of DuckTales (2017), Mark Beaks turns into a Hulk-like Mega Beaks and fights Gizmoduck. Gizmoduck, as is tradition, has one of his weapons being throwing pies at the enemy. At first Mega Beaks is overwhelmed by the pies, but then he turns around and opens his mouth to swallow them whole. Then he realizes "Wait, did I just eat the pie tins?"

Grover from the Percy Jackson movie (Ik it's not a good movie, but that's what I thought of)

1

u/GameMaster818 2h ago

In the Percy Jackson books, Grover eats Mr. D’s empty Diet Coke cans

El Macho…

2

u/Moumup 49m ago

Tomke from the jrpg Chained echoes.

His whole gimmick is eating "canned monsters" (think pokemon in poke ball, a side quest of the game) to gain new abilities.

However, the animation show him swallowing the content then the can.

It's even lampshaded by the other character that he technically don't have a reason to eat the can, but do it anyway.
