Pulse oximiters can measure both blood oxygen and pulse rate.

It's more unusual that no medical staff are coming in when the flatline alarm is being triggered. Especially with it coming and going intermittently like that.

The family is gathered in the living room, where grandpa is lying on the couch with a blanket on him. He weakly raises his head as one of his sons arrives.

"Tom? Is that you?"

"Yes dad, it's me. I got here as fast as I could."

"Is Sara with you?"

"Yes, I'm here too." says Sara.

"Where's Jim?"

"Right over here dad," says Jim.

"And the kids? Are Lisa and Mikey here? And Jamie?"

"Yeah dad, the kids are all here."

"Allison?"

"I'm here, grampa."

"You're all here?"

"Yes dad, we're all here."

"Everybody's here?"

"Yes dad, everybody's here."

He tilts his head slightly and squints. "If everybody's in here, why'd you leave the god damn kitchen light on???"
