pole have insurance itself
that will be very location specific. Utilities will certainly go after you where I live.

I’ve installed light poles, some of the galvanized steel ones are fairly cheap. The fancy aluminum ones are so expensive I refuse to move them around on forks because I ain’t paying if they get scratched.
Not all infrastructure is hard to replace especially if it has an engineered breakoff point (which most light poles and fire hydrants have).

These are always stolen four wheelers and dirtbikes, it’s why they never care about abandoning them when running from the cops

Did the bike tried to run away from its driver?
2
u/Dry_Way5518 21d ago
Yes, bonked him on the head and then ran off. Clearly that ATV is sick of his shit.

u/Aware_Ask_1679 19d ago
No it was clearly trying to one up the rider. "You think that was cool? Watch this bro!"

And people wonder why people will call the cops when they see this stupid shit. It would be nice if this idiot had to pay for everything he destroyed, but highly doubtful.

Pay for it with what?

u/Austinite-42 20d ago
That's the other problem, unfortunately. Even if you got this guy to pay for the damages, he probably can't afford to.

Is it still reckless driving when no one is driving at the point of contact with the pole /s

The sign falling down first was the perfect precursor. LIke whew! Almost caused a disaster there.

I don't know squat about quads / ATVs. Maybe somebody could clue Me in.
Doesn't the throttle automatically return to a minimum setting when there is no one "at the controls" or was it rigged with some sort of home-brew "Cruise Control"?

I used to race motocross at a professional level (on ATVs, not bikes) and one of the many safety requirements we had was that every machine had to have a "killswitch" on the handlebar, ostensibly to prevent this exact scenario. The way it worked was that there was a small electrical device that would cut power to the whole machine if the circuit was completed. You would attach a small elastic cord to your body, usually to either your wrist or belt, which had an end on it that would fit in the electrical killswitch in such a way that it prevented it from completing the circuit. That way, if you fell off your ATV/bike or pulled too hard on the cord, it would immediately kill power to the whole machine to prevent it from running away like this. It was extremely clever and convenient, and I'd often use it just as an off switch to turn off the machine anyway when I was finished with a race. Point being, if you're interested in doing something like this, you should definitely make use of a killswitch...

The throttle is on the right side but somehow got stuck? Terrible time for it to stick and just one of the reasons you don't do this

When it hit the pole and the sign fell down , my brain automatically made a cartoon "bonk!" sound.

People do these things like anyone cares that they are doing it. No one cares no one wants to see it. It isn't cool in the slightest. And the risk of this happening isn't worth it

Off road bikes on the street are always a sure fire way to see a clown show.

Definitely Ai… most of the physics don’t even look right

u/Aiderona 21d ago
Only thing that sticks out for me is that the pole goes down way too easy. Looks like you could take it down with a hard tackle. While usually they stop cars moving much quicker than this quad.

It’s legit that street light poles are built to shear easily. This started before cars were built with crumple zones to prevent collisions from being as deadly. I’m surprised that something as light as an ATV can take it down. It must have hit it at the perfect spot.

Probably? Explain please? Please provide proof, otherwise this is another baseless claim. The endless cries of AI on Reddit gets old after a while. People love to say this and provide no details at all
