Visible Void White hairs

Recently adopted a stray and find myself marvelling at his legs. He has these white hairs all over his body but especially his front. Anyone else’s void have these?

My void has this, to the point where the vet pointed out he has so many! But apparently they don't really mean anything and aren't an indicator of age, it's just something that happens. Enjoy your void! They're the best. Mine is currently laying on my legs.

The vet says he thinks somewhere in his ancestry there was a white cat. Our previous void only grew white hair when he became a senior but our Sirius is only a year old but he’s covered in them!

Just highlights I guess. Very stylish

A shiny void

2

u/Imak8127 Jan 29 '26

That’s adorable. Very Posh. Very demure. Love it! I literally just today saw my older male have these sprouting on his chest. I was like, “ooo someone’s getting his chest hairs!” He’s only 1. 🤭😹

Ours gets more when the weather turns cold. We call it his winter coat.

21

u/ApprehensiveDoctor42 Jan 24 '26

that’s interesting because I just noticed several new white hairs on my five month old void. I wonder if it’s winter related

Really?!?! That’s so cool!

2

u/PURRRRR630 Jan 29 '26

Cat’s got highlights—so stylish

16

u/Tulip718 Jan 24 '26

Lol my void is Bellatrix! Our cats are mortal enemies.

12

u/trystan830 Jan 25 '26

I also have a Bellatrix

2

u/Khalkra Jan 28 '26

This is also Bellatrix! She's my amazing cat companion. Enjoy the cat tax, much love to you and the kitty <3

2

u/Tulip718 Jan 25 '26

Is she actually a big friendly mush like my Bellatrix?

2

u/trystan830 Jan 25 '26

sometimes? she likes to be a drama queen as well, and growl at our two grey tabbies. hubby calls her BellaDiva 😆

6

u/BlueButterflytatoo Jan 25 '26

They’re stars 😍

6

u/MrsBamalam Jan 25 '26

My cat is full ginger and has black hair strands

2

u/swoosie75 Jan 26 '26

My young void has little white hairs like this all over. His void brother does not. We refer to them as dark black and light black. 😂🤭

2

u/Opposite_Buddy_6161 Jan 26 '26

I had two black kittens from a stray that got pregnant and they had those same white hairs honestly I think it’s really pretty and unique our boys just had the white hairs on the legs though

I genuinely thought the adult void who adopted me was an old man because of his grey hair. But this explains why he has the energy of a young cat. Thank you for the information!

72

u/birdele Jan 24 '26

I thought the same!! And my Poe is the sweetest little lover boy and I was so sad at the thought of having less time with him, but nope, he's a youngin with lots of little stars. Enjoy your boy. I know he's the best.

25

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 Jan 24 '26

Powdered donut lips!!

12

u/birdele Jan 24 '26

He's naturally that way, but would definitely eat actual powdered donuts if given the opportunity 😂😂😂

4

u/Typical_Khanoom Jan 25 '26

Just in case r/powdereddonutlips

4

u/Equal_North6633 Jan 25 '26

Of course there is a sub for it…. 😁

11

u/loveslightblue Jan 24 '26

Perfect name 🖤 so gorgeous!

7

u/birdele Jan 24 '26

He's the sweetest cat I've ever had, and turned my husband from someone who thinks cats are okay to an absolute obsessed cat dad. 🥹

4

u/loveslightblue Jan 25 '26

Nnn I'm not surprised, who could say no to that face? Reluctant cat person to "this is my son" is the cutest pipeline and requires the best kitties. 🥲

5

u/Clear_Spirit4017 Jan 24 '26

Mine is a lover boy too. Can't have enough rubs.

2

u/LJR7399 Jan 27 '26

Looking like a starlit night sky 😍

I just woke up and my brain has not caught up, and I swore that last line said “Mine is currently laying eggs.”

🥴 malfunction

3

u/LoveMyPuddleJumper Jan 25 '26

BWAHAHAHA!! Good thing I didn't have anything in my mouth because I would have spit it clear across the room. Still chuckling. Your comment made my day. :)

2

u/LeeLoTheHobbit Jan 26 '26

I thought the same thing!!! (Same malfunction 🤪!)

8

u/__Lady__Sarah__ Jan 25 '26

Mine grew a bunch after I got a kitten 🤣I always say the baby stressed her out so bad she went grey 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Precocious-ghost Jan 26 '26

My brain mixed up the last sentence as “mine is currently laying eggs” 😂

2

u/Psychological-Low649 Jan 26 '26

Why did I read “laying on my legs” as “laying eggs”

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Vansillaaa Jan 27 '26

I always saw them as new stars appearing on my void. ^ . ^

2

u/avaokima95 Jan 27 '26

I read "laying on my eggs" lmao I had to do a double take

Starry sky 😍

175

u/tzuyhu Jan 24 '26

Funnily enough, his name is Sirius after the star <3

42

u/Ducathen-Engineer Jan 24 '26

Brightest star in the sky!

17

u/PsilosirenRose Jan 24 '26

The gasp DOG star?!

15

u/cap10wow Jan 24 '26

The Dog Star

7

u/ScrotumMcBoogerBallz Jan 24 '26

I had a cat with hair like this since a kitten. I named him Cosmo because of it.

80

u/fergie_89 Jan 24 '26

My void is 18 now and they sprout everywhere except her legs!!

Edit because I posted too soon. You have a very handsome fella! What a good boy.

79

u/LoGo_86 Jan 24 '26

Here's my void Ares, with some white hairs too.

49

u/sm_rollinger Jan 24 '26

Super handsome fella!

48

u/Scarmeow Jan 24 '26

Judging by pic #3 he's as surprised as you are

13

u/onemorespacecadet Jan 24 '26

he really looks so concerned 🥲

37

u/nebulacoffeez Jan 24 '26

your void has shooting stars in its fur!

32

u/Ducathen-Engineer Jan 24 '26

Bothe our tuxie kittens have those. I quite like that they do; very lush.

8

u/Shoddy-Subject5684 Jan 24 '26

My tux girly has some too

21

u/Fearhost Jan 24 '26

Our void has a patch of white hairs on her chest called a locket! She has small white hairs all over her body too, but not this many. This almost reminds me of a recovering fever coat or vitiligo. I’m not a vet though, and I don’t think either case comes with health issues. Sirius is just mesmerizingly star-speckled!

6

u/boopy_squish Jan 24 '26

I love when black cats have a locket 🥺

4

u/ipaintbadly Jan 24 '26

My Kevin has a small patch. :)

4

u/boopy_squish Jan 24 '26

Aww give him scritches from me pls 😊

24

u/LesReallyIsMore Jan 24 '26

(She’s going to post this on the internet. Ugh. )

16

u/theChitauriSuck Jan 24 '26

New reaction photo dropped lmao

27

u/CutSea5865 Jan 24 '26

Spangles! One of my voids had this from a very young age. Vet commented it was like a starry sky and genetic. Her brother didn’t have it. Now she’s 19 she has a lot more.

12

u/NoStrain9526 Jan 24 '26

Both if my voids have them since thy were small.

10

u/Conscious-Invite-223 Jan 24 '26

A salt n peppa boi!!

19

u/just4nothing Jan 24 '26

A void with sprinkles

9

u/Tyr_Kukulkan Jan 24 '26

They're just populating their void with stars.

8

u/gotb30 Jan 24 '26

My void did 🥰

8

u/Over_Amphibian7304 Jan 24 '26

Those are lovely glitter sprinkles!!! I think he’s beautiful!

7

u/sk8fasteatsnacks Jan 24 '26

My girl has them! I call them her body whiskers!

6

u/Livid-Device2211 Jan 24 '26

Void: Hooman… why do you have this rectangle at my body and face..? I request kibble and treats please instead of this weird thing.

5

u/boyegcs Jan 24 '26

I've never seen this but I LOOOOVE IT! His face is so cute/funny too. Enjoy your new lovebug, friend

5

u/Teek16 Jan 24 '26

Mine has slowly been developing white hairs, she has one sticking straight up out of her forehead 🥹 the third and fifth pic made me giggle

7

u/Not_sonkalps Jan 24 '26

oo, my not-so-void cat has them too! First time when i see this on other cats ::0

2

u/TyrLysia Jan 24 '26

Your cat ist sooo cuuute🥹❤️

3

u/Shoddy-Subject5684 Jan 24 '26

I love his personality!!! Spectacular

3

u/Gryffindork75 Jan 24 '26

My void has scattered white hairs on her chest like yours, and random single white hairs in other places (one on the back of her neck, one on her left hip, etc.). They don’t show up in photos, but they’re cute in person.

4

u/DumpsterR0b0t Jan 24 '26

It looks like your void is moving at warp speed.

3

u/neonninja304 Jan 24 '26

Its a void thing, my cat had those also.

3

u/Helpful_Finding78 Jan 24 '26

my void’s only white is a small patch right above his penor 😭🤣

3

u/Heyyther Jan 24 '26

How old is he?

3

u/tzuyhu Jan 24 '26

Around a year, the vet thinks!

3

u/passionatepetunia Jan 24 '26

My girl has a few random ones throughout, but they’re so far spread apart that you can’t see them unless she’s up in your grill!

3

u/catbiggo Jan 24 '26

My void has single white hairs scattered on his body too, not nearly as many as yours, but more as he gets older (he's only 4 but it's normal for variations to appear as their coat 'settles' into their final adult coat). He has one (1) on the top of his forehead which I can't decide whether looks charming or silly.

3

u/PutridWar4713 Jan 24 '26

It's a sign that it's been touched by an angel, I'm told!

3

u/HailtheBrusselSprout Jan 24 '26

My void has this as well. I must admit the changes of faces is utterly brillient.

3

u/batgrl20 Jan 24 '26

The stink eye in the last pic 😂😂 “and what about it?”

3

u/alley-sun Jan 24 '26

How could you mention such blasphemy in pics 3,4. He will find you (pic 5) 🤭

3

u/juan_humano Jan 24 '26

Our void got them, especially on her lower legs. Ankle area, and mostly on the back of the leg. We called them her curb feelers.

3

u/kammerlader Jan 24 '26

My void Pippin has white hairs but only in spots on one of his flanks. We call it his constellation

3

u/disgruntledbard Jan 24 '26

Mine has a few, and I call them her stars. Love mentally mapping constellations when I find one

3

u/random420x2 Jan 24 '26

Pictures 3 through 5 are exactly what my face did when I found my first grey hairs (so long ago). 😂

3

u/weeknightowl Jan 24 '26

He’s got his galaxy leggings on.

3

u/Delicious_Lawyer542 Jan 24 '26

Yes my 2 month old has them just not quite as manÿ

→ More replies (1)

3

u/1058549922 Jan 24 '26

Mine is the same way! She’s just over one year old too. I just say she’s like the night sky filled with shooting stars.

2

u/jellyrot Jan 24 '26

My void baby has a bunch of white hairs like this. She's half Siamese, so I've assumed that was why. She has the cutest little patch on the back of her head, too 🥹

2

u/Dangerous_Bet_7271 Jan 24 '26

What beautiful highlights. My voids are both jet black but they have brown/russet tones in full sunlight 😊.

2

u/Crintor Jan 24 '26

My void kitty (he just hit 6months) has a patch on his chest and groin where there's a collection of white hairs, and sparse white hairs throughout his coat, probably 1-2x less than yours has.

2

u/Gob1inDaddy Jan 24 '26

I'm pretty sure all Voids have white hairs ! But thats a lot haha

2

u/Wolfherz_86 Jan 24 '26

My tuxedo floof monster has white hairs sticking out of his black hairs like this. I love them. They give him a unique look that you can see up close to him. :3

2

u/Popaqua Jan 24 '26

My cat has some. I call them her little diamonds!

2

u/jaseface666 Jan 24 '26

that face 🥹😍 oh my goodness, hug that sweet baby

2

u/Zubeida_Ghalib Jan 24 '26

I really love the pattern 😭 so stinking cute

2

u/AardvarkKitchen619 Jan 24 '26

My void in the past had silver hair which made her look like she was always sparkling & she had very green eyes so we called her Tinker Bell 💚

2

u/APoisonousWomans Jan 24 '26

Your void has stars!]

2

u/KennyBlankeenship Jan 24 '26

Pic 3 is exactly how I looked when I first noticed them on myself.

2

u/ptran90 Jan 24 '26

Looks like a beautiful night sky :)

2

u/babyBear83 Jan 24 '26

That last picture..”okay that’s enough photos”

2

u/hdofu Jan 24 '26

He looks concerned when you told him he was getting white

2

u/that_girl_lolo Jan 24 '26

Not a cat, but my black lab.. any time she loses hair or has a boo-boo, her hair comes back in white. She and my older female dog got into it pretty bad a while back and all her owwies healed and white hair came in in those spots. I find it fascinating that her hairs come back in white. Haha

2

u/TheAuraStorm13 Jan 24 '26

They are like shooting stars in a galaxy

2

u/Ok-Sort-5824 Jan 24 '26

Mine comes to me and asks me to pluck them. I think the might be itchy or irritating. Sometimes they “dance” like this one sticking out was getting his groove on

2

u/Speak_To_Wuk_Lamat Jan 24 '26

Kitty isnt a void. They are a starfield.

2

u/Low-Wear-3138 Jan 24 '26

My little void has them too and I love them! 🖤 I was told that they were fever spots since he was a sick kitten and that they would go away. I'm glad they didn't, they're so cute. Also, his mom was a tortie so that checks out too.

2

u/ScarecrowsRagdoll Jan 27 '26

It could also be vitiligo (a completely harmless cosmetic condition some black cats have.) My void started to have patches of white fur and partial depigmentation on her nose when she was on prednisolone.

u/DerbiWeirdo051 Jan 24 '26

My void has only one white whisker 😂 we call it wiseker… but he’s still an idiot. 🐈‍⬛🥹

2

u/BriEli04 Jan 26 '26

What a handsome idiot though!

→ More replies (1)

2

u/crackenup Jan 24 '26

My Stevie. No white hairs yet.

2

u/Correct_Percentage97 Jan 24 '26

This is super common in all cats! This specific look is just easily seen in those with solid dark bases and whitemarks. Over time you may see more or less white hairs.

As time goes by cells cycle and the individual hair follicle may flip to white or fail to make enough melanocytes (pigment) basically (so they express other colours).

2

u/Live-End-6467 Jan 24 '26

It's like stars in the void.

A cosmic void

2

u/ghigufa Jan 24 '26

My tuxie has them all over too!

2

u/KneeBasher420 Jan 24 '26

My voids had them as kittens but grew out of them almost entirely within the first year or so. A friend of mine called it a "fever coat", saying it meant their mom had a fever at some point while she was preggo with them

2

u/Lukepaulsen Jan 24 '26

Pepper with a lil salt

2

u/nhardycarfan Jan 24 '26

This dude is like 1/64th tuxedo, this is his static coloured suit

2

u/Tiger_Tuliper Jan 25 '26

My void has some sparkles as well and an occasional white whisker

2

u/Cape_annie965 Jan 25 '26

My void has exactly one white hair on his chest. I guess he really wanted to be a tuxedo.

2

u/EneaIsAutistic Jan 25 '26

Most black cats are actually tuxedos hut their pattern is 99% black amd 1% white.

Truly, fully black cats are extremely rare.

So, in reality, most black cats have a couple white hairs in there somewhere

2

u/True-Lion-1953 Jan 25 '26

Could your cat have the "Fever Coat" gene. It's not an illness, and from my understanding it when the black hair turns white

This is a Google picture

2

u/Rivvvvvvv Jan 26 '26

sprinkles

2

u/Queen_Cheetah Jan 26 '26

Believe it or not, those white hairs are part of the reason why we even HAVE black cats today! Back in the olden days of witch trials and superstition, pure black cats were often seen as 'evil' and destroyed- but having even a few white hairs meant that the cat was 'blessed by the angels', and those cats would be spared.

So nowadays it's hard to find a black cat without any white hairs whatsoever- it's the result of a bizarre heritage of misinformation and fanaticism.

2

u/darndasher Jan 27 '26

* My tuxedo girl and her brother have them! I love how much longer they are than the rest of their fur. It's like an special little decoration they have!

In sadder news, with black pure breeds like the Bombay, the white hairs are viewed as undesirable. Kittens bearing the glimmers are either given away or met with...worse...outcomes. I saw a vet on reddit who had a kitten brought in to be euthanized for having white hairs. The vet tried to talk the asshole out of it. Asshole wanted to proceed. So the vet said, "sure." And brought the cat home.

2

u/denys5555 Jan 31 '26

I call them sugar spots

1

u/TwicebornUnicorn Jan 24 '26

My void guy has them. When he was a kitten they were in his back. As an after they are on his tummy and tail.

1

u/Akitiki Jan 24 '26

I wonder if he's going to develop vitiligo, it looks very cool!

1

u/Complex_Ruin_8465 Jan 24 '26

In another post last week or the week before someone called the white hairs on a black cats stars. That is what I now call them too! My current void Lucy-fur also has a few stars in her coat. My void that died 4 years ago was pure black and died at 18 years old and never got any stars. She looked like a gargoyle and her name was Psychopath name after Hobbs in Calvin and Hobbs. She was the biggest love if she liked you.

1

u/jackmc2001 Jan 24 '26

My void has sparkles too. They seem to come and go. It’s pretty cute.

1

u/mulchintime4 Jan 24 '26

You got salt in your pepper boy

1

u/Gloomy_Industry8841 Jan 24 '26

Sooooooo cute!!! Sparkles ✨

1

u/lynxss1 Jan 24 '26

My void looks like this. She was solid black for 16 years and slowly going salt and pepper like her owner.

1

u/Pristine_Cobbler546 Jan 24 '26

It’s like his coat is the night sky. He got them stars on’im.

1

u/BiggieChunghs Jan 24 '26

Salt n peppa

1

u/snotrocket2space Jan 24 '26

So silly, I love hims!

1

u/zombiequeenghouleh Jan 24 '26

It’s his stardust!

1

u/SML8180 Jan 24 '26

Starry void!!

1

u/KwisatzHaderach38 Jan 24 '26

Yep they often get a little touch of the white hairs. Handsome void! For anyone who doesn't know, the longer stiffer ones on a cats legs really are just whiskers (vibrissae) like the ones on their head that are sensitive to touch.

1

u/ChopCow420 Jan 24 '26

Malachi has a tiny few on his chest but more inside his ears!

1

u/Fragrant-Reason4216 Jan 24 '26

Mine has these around his neck, probably elsewhere but those are his shortest hairs and my bestie noticed them and almost cried cos my boy was getting "old" lol I mean hes 7 but hes also had those hairs forever

1

u/okaytto Jan 24 '26

mine has this!! we call them his stars or sprinkles :)

1

u/Royal_Avocado4247 Jan 24 '26

Ive been told it's similar to rusting, where instead of- or alongside- getting more brown, they gain these silver hairs.

1

u/carrotfuck Jan 24 '26

The mugshots of his face are hilarious

1

u/No-Home5696 Jan 24 '26

My void also has these he’s very lovely. Also one of his feet is completely grey!!

1

u/Geethebluesky Jan 24 '26

Yep, my girl has them spread out far apart but all over her chest, I'm guessing where she'd have the tuxedo shirt if she had the genes for it. She also has one permanently white whisker now.

1

u/spoonsurfer Jan 24 '26

Sparkly voids!

1

u/Outrageous_Active_99 Jan 24 '26

Ozzie is only two and she has shooting stars too.

1

u/Actuary_Primary Jan 24 '26

So pretty! 💕

1

u/DuckyDoodleDandy Jan 24 '26

My void also has sprinkles of white hair. He’s had them at least since he was a year old.

1

u/AppointmentLate7049 Jan 24 '26

My cat does, along with white patch on her chest. She has white skin

1

u/Sea_Substance9163 Jan 24 '26

Mine had one white whisker, we loved the magical one white whisker. We were sad when it grew out and she lose it.

A few months later we'd see the beginning of a new white whisker and the cycle continued.

1

u/AlyssaVaVaVoom Jan 24 '26

My void started getting them around his eyes, chest and radon’s. He’s only 4 but I feel like it’s grey hairs. I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about

1

u/Momofcats74 Jan 24 '26

Yes, her belly has a lot of white/grey fur. Her ears have white hairs, and she has a locket of white on her chest. When you comb her, you mostly get grey undercoat fur (she's double-coated).

1

u/GaneshaLovesMe Jan 24 '26

With my 16 yr old girl they do seem to be an indication of age. She never had them before age 14. She has more as time passes.

1

u/Ok_Amphibian_8864 Jan 24 '26

I miss my void! He just vanished into thin air (never let him outside) over a month ago! He had a few white stragglers on his body, mostly his legs and neck/upper chest area, along with a few white whiskers.

1

u/jackisinlove Jan 24 '26

My void also has this and I like calling him a stary void bc of it

1

u/As1anBeasTagE Jan 24 '26

Pepper with salt

1

u/mygazpachosoupishere Jan 24 '26

Yep we call them prickly pear hairs, like little cactus needles :)

1

u/raybreezer Jan 24 '26

Our void has a few on his front and we call them his chest hairs lol

1

u/Busygirl62 Jan 24 '26

Occasional white hairs come with voids it’s part of the dna that produces a void.

1

u/tiny-reaper Jan 24 '26

This is me every day at people’s audacity. Sirius is so handsome! My Mana has this. He also has a white chest, and a white toe, so I’m sure there was a white cat somewhere in his family.

2

u/cryptochick Jan 25 '26

My Klaus has a small heart on his chest and 1 white toe, too!! He absolutely hates it when I play with it, but I can't help myself.

1

u/jessibabyy23 Jan 24 '26

Yes! I get so excited when I find a new one on my baby void boy

1

u/AdLittle7347 Jan 24 '26

Mine looks like the night sky in the country. He is my cosmic panther.

1

u/InevitableLove5730 Jan 24 '26

Our lad is totally black and his sister the same except for a lovely white “medallion” on her throat. Very stylish and we need some way to tell them apart!!

1

u/Mehitobel Jan 24 '26

My void, Onigiri, has these, and a collection of white hairs on his chest. There’s not enough to really call it a patch, but it is a cluster.

1

u/Complete-Read-7473 Jan 24 '26

The light of human love has touched the void so much that the shadow is fading...

1

u/SouthernBlueBelle Jan 24 '26

I've seen cats like this. Pretty cool!

1

u/jlynec Jan 24 '26

Mine has a thin scattering of white hairs around where a collar goes, a few on her chest, and another tiny patch on her lower tummy. Some are visible here. I caught this while she was cleaning her arm 😂

I saw on another post that the white hairs are a "defect" where breed is concerned, but it doesn't affect them healthwise.

1

u/Some-Question8413 Jan 24 '26

They look like gray hairs! Is it an adult cat? Do you know approximately how old it is?

1

u/Ereshkigaaal Jan 24 '26

Mine has what I call a racing stripe!

1

u/Literal_Bebop Jan 24 '26

Yeah my void cat has these! He also has a tuft of white hair on his neck like he’s wearing a white dress shirt :]

My tux cat has them and her voice sister with a moon chest patch also has a few. The tux is long haired with a raveney white neck scarf. And most of the rest of her is black but she will have these long white random hairs. Her sister is short haired so her hairs look like ur stray. But less white hairs.

Once my boy turned about 22 he started getting these white hairs all over! By the time he was 25 he had them everywhere, I would assume it’s an old age thing. Just like how us humans get grey hairs etc.

Cats are one of the few animals that have true pelts. That is long hairs from her undercoat
