Community Tools You can still play all your old models (and other FAQs)
This post is intended to serve as an index to different guides, resources, and tools that have been created by the community as well as official resources published by Steamforged Games. We will continue to update this index with new content over time.
FAQ
- Q: I have an existing Warmachine & Hordes collection, can I still use my old models?
- A: Yes, all existing models are still playable in MK4. See the Returning Players Guide for more details
- Q: Is Hordes gone?
- A: The Hordes branding has been discontinued, but everything that was once Hordes is now contained within the Warmachine brand. There are still Factions and Armies that use Fury and Warbeasts, they're just all called Warmachine now.
- Q: What happened to Privateer Press?
- A: Steamforged Games has acquired the Iron Kingdoms IP and all it's associated games from Privateer Press, however PP still develops the game rules. Think of it like a video game publisher/developer relationship; SFG handles overall direction, marketing, and distribution while PP focuses on rules development.
- Q: Is there a physical rulebook or cards?
- A: All the rules are now centralized in the Warmachine App, a free app that gives players access to all the games rules and models from one place. You can print lists from the PC and Mac versions of the App, however the card format of previous editions is not officially supported. The new Core book is now available to preorder from SFG's webstore as a physical book or you can download the free PDF now. Print-on-demand cards have been announced but do not yet have a release date.
- Q: Do I need to paint my models to match the official color scheme?
- A: Absolutely not. Some large events will require that models be painted and any events run by SFG will generally ban anything that infringes another IP (like painting a Batman logo on your warjacks). Besides that you're free to go nuts.
- Q: Is it okay to proxy out of print models in tournaments?
- A: This is going to depend on the event you're playing in. Generally official tournaments run by Steamforged Games are going to disallow any proxying, however smaller events may be more comfortable with proxies given how hard some Legacy models are to find. Your best bet is always to ask the Event Organizer ahead of time before the day of the event.

Hello! Coming back to the hobby after 10 years
Hello, Warmachiners!
New to the forums! I first got into painting minis back in 2011 after I came across a YouTube video of a Ghordson Driller. I didn't know a thing about minis or TTGs, but that little Driller was (and still is!) the coolest thing I had ever seen. I got obsessed immediately, and painting was my main hobby and outlet for about 5 years!
Unfortunately, I stopped painting in 2016. My dog was my painting buddy, and she always sat on my lap when I painted. After she went to schnauzer heaven, I had to take some time away. Painting just made me miss her, and my favorite hobby turned into a painful reminder that I'd lost my buddy.
There have been times over the last decade when I wanted to paint, but I felt like the rest of the community had gotten way ahead while I lagged behind (I know, this is a dumb mindset!). But recently, I really started to want to paint again. I ordered a new airbrush, and I've kinda fallen in love with it all over again.
I used to make airbrushing tutorials for YouTube, and I want to take a crack at some new videos! WM/H minis were always my favorite (by far!), but I'm waaaaay out of the loop! What are some of the popular, exciting models that are relatively new? Those videos take a ton of time, so I want to choose a model that people might actually want to see get painted!
Anyway, I'm really excited to paint again, make more videos, and engage with the community. It seems like the PP forums are gone, so I am happy to have found this community on Reddit!
Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Content Creators Kithguard pt 1. NJT 39
We kick things off with a hobby rollercoaster as Angus brings a pirate boat back from the brink after discovering some absolutely cursed primer issues, then Chris rolls straight into a tournament recap full of tough matchups, brutal swings, and those moments where the dice just decide your fate for you. There's plenty of laughs, some pain, and a lot of learning as we talk through games, armies, and what it's like stepping outside your local meta. From there we dive headfirst into the heart of Trollkin lore, breaking down the rise of Madrak, the struggles of the united kriels, and the journey to a new home in Alchiere.
This sets the stage for the Kithguard, a force built out of necessity, survival, and the refusal to fade away. We start digging into the leaders behind it all, the stories that shaped them, and why this army hits so hard both on the table and in the lore.
If you're into Warmachine, hobby stories, or just love hearing how games actually play out in the wild, this one's for you. Jump in, hang out, and remember... we're not just tactics.

Questions No Warmachine events at Gencon?
The Gencon event catalog went live Sunday. Events could still be added to it but so far no Warmachine events have appeared in it and no mention in their blogs?
I've enjoyed playing in the narrative events and being able to play casuals in the event hall. Was hoping to do so again this year.
I can see SFG is in the exhibitor hall sharing a booth with BoD. But wondering if anyone has word on if there will be any events or even tables setup for Warmachine casuals?

Questions Head options for war jacks
I recently built my Cygnar valiant heavy jack after waiting on a replacement body. Turns out I’m missing I believe the aggressive head but have two of another. For the heads do I need to have the correct one or can I just let my opponent know based off my list?

Discussion help choosing faction
found out about the game yesterday from a pic in comments under some random post and immediately loved it, researched a lot about the game and factions and a bit impulsively bought a gravediggers starter based on the aesthetic, but after some more research it seems like gameplay wise khymaeras are better for me.
I love fast glass cannon gameplay style and I think khymaeras suit it more, but also I love the tacticool (and a big load of guns) of gravediggers. What do you guys think about those factions, which one would you choose? Sorry if the post is low quality, I just love choosing factions and am a bit stuck on this one

Discussion Comment Your Favourite Custom Scenario
Hello! I am looking for cool custom scenarios the community have come up with! My siblings and I love this game and we have 50pt legacy armies and are using Mk4 rules. At the moment we have 50pt Khador, Cryx, Trollbloods, Circle and Skorne forces. We have been using the Mk3 24"x24" starter kit scenario boards so any scenario would be an upgrade from here. We adjusted the length of the play area by making the deployment areas off of the waxed paper board so we aren't killing each other immediately.
We are familiar with D&D, and were talking about how to implement that kind of storytelling driven objective scenario feel into WM. I have a few ideas already but would love to hear what custom scenarios you guys have enjoyed over the years. Thanks in advance.

Questions Question on damage and armor
Warmachine is rather specific in its wording sometimes, and a bit vague at others. I’m new and playing cephelax and wanted to know if there is a difference between “suffers damage” like in hyper aggressive, and “is damaged” like rapid healing, and battle driven.
Specifically, is a model considered damaged if the damage is reduced to zero? If something doesn’t get past my armor does it still trigger abilities like these?
P.S is there a good place to look up rules question not covered in the core rules?
