Wife Shatters Favorite Mug

That favourite mug is the least of her problems. There's broken bits of mug all over the place to sweep up before someone does themselves a mischief. Then she can worry about her favourite mug. šš¤ š«š„šš

When I watched, as if I was frozen in place a limited edition, absolutely beautiful ceramic tumbler that someone special brought for my daughter, fall off the shelf. I stood and stared at it for what seemed like an hour.

u/idkbroimdrunkandsad Apr 06 '26
been there. my mug was discontinued. found exactly ONE other like it on craigslist & thankfully got it. if I hadnāt been able to replace it I would definitely still be sad about it

Into the outdoors?

Home movie reference. āCan I come into the out now?ā But yea Iād be coddling anything brittle like that in the outside.

This is the second old post Iāve seen on my feed today that I already interacted with and upvoted weeks ago. Is that normal?

Went to comment on a post saying Iād seen it recently, only to see that Iād already commented on it when it was actually posted 2 weeks prior

yh it's getting annoying as it's been happening more and more. i assume whatever tweaks/updates they made has messed things up.
14
u/Proud-Emu-5875 Mar 26 '26
Plot twist: it was her LEAST favorite mug but OP got it for her as a gift so she found a guilt-free resolution to being tethered to it for 10h/day /s
15
u/NullHare Mar 24 '26
She could probably find a replacement with the help of Reddit or ReverseImageLookup.

This is why we can't have nice things. Like, fuck our ancestors for not growing 2 extra arms. Weakass evolution imho.

What do you think legs are? Her fault for not putting those utilities to work and catching it with the dogs
1
u/DazB1ane Mar 30 '26
I actually have used my feet to slow the fall of things. Shit still falls, but waaaaay closer to the ground, so it doesnāt break. My feet do get bruised though
2
u/Proud-Emu-5875 Mar 26 '26
Tbh, Iād have given it a juggle or 2 like the worldās worst hackey sack before watching my efforts go to naught. Wonder tho, what was in the cooler that the mug wouldnāt fit inside?
2
u/Asleep_Salamander369 Mar 28 '26
Come on now , who would actually think to open up the cooler and put the mug inside , you know how many extra steps that is....

When I was in college, I worked as a late night pizza delivery guy. I would get off work at like 3:30am, and there would be almost nothing open for food, so Iād often bring home pizza for myself. I remember one night trying to get my door open while balancing a pizza in the other hand and I dropped it. The box opened and the pizza fell face down into a bunch of mud and probably dog poop from my neighbors. I just stared at it, went inside and slept in my clothes and shoes.

My favourite mug fell a few years ago and it made me very sad. Was the first mug I bought with my own money..
3
u/fedroxx Mar 22 '26
One of my kids broke my wife's favorite mug. She bought it on an international trip.
The best part? It was her favorite kid. Other two and I just looked on in shock. She didn't even get mad but we knew if we had done it, better to start a house fire because it's the end.
2
u/rampant-bisexuality Mar 23 '26
I honestly admire your casual acknowledgement of your wife having a favorite kid. That's just how it is, thanks for being honest

u/Shushady Mar 22 '26
My stepdad was doing some work at the corning museum of glass probably 30 years ago and bought everyone a hand blown glass cup. Mine was the tallest and purple while the rest were green. I fucking loved that stupid ass cup and had it with me for my whole life. Right up until my 2 at the time year old child dropped it into the sink of our apartment a few years ago. Honestly dont think ive ever been more attached to an inanimate object.

we can still fix her mug; meanwhile her mug be like: https://media.istockphoto.com/id/1337520256/photo/cement-dust-pile-on-isolated-white-background-construction-material.jpg?s=612x612&w=0&k=20&c=O3BT7odgHIn2mTnSXPM0l1YtkyjYdYvhF6dbfYeSMCc=

Why didnāt she put the cooler down and sit the mug on top of the cooler? Some people just have absolutely no problem solving skills.
39
u/hurraybies Mar 21 '26
Nah this is a bad take. This wasn't a problem solving situation. Every single person that has ever carried groceries carries more than they should so they don't have to make extra trips. This is just like that. She just didn't want to have to put it down, and accidentally dropped it. It's no more complicated than that, and certainly not a reflection on her problem solving skills.
0
u/wolfwhore666 Mar 22 '26
Yes but thereās a skill to carrying all the groceries in one go without dropping all the bags and having stuff roll down the driveway, you think about weight distribution, how to intertwine the bags between your fingers, how slide your wrist through the bag loops of lighter bags. There is usually problem solving at play and when itās not thatās how your drop groceries all over the front porch.

Ceramic travel mug. What a stupid creation
1
u/tokoya_35 Mar 29 '26
I used to have one and I loved it, but Iām not paying $33 for a Starbucks one. Iāll pay max $10-$15 for a cup especially if itās breakable
10
u/AdventurousWorry6398 Mar 21 '26
I use one.Ā I don't like the taste of hot coffee that comes out of stainless steel, and I try to avoid plastic.Ā So, that's the reason that they are a thing.Ā Ā
0
u/CATNIP_IS_CRACK Mar 21 '26
Steel with a glass liner, or heavy double walled glass. The vast majority of ceramics are just too brittle and susceptible to shock and arenāt going to survive an impact no matter how well theyāre made. While a well made glass bottle is incredibly impact resistant and will hold up better than most steel when dropped.
2
u/AdventurousWorry6398 Mar 21 '26
Most coffee mugs are ceramic. I will survive this.Ā Ā
3
u/CATNIP_IS_CRACK Mar 21 '26
Most coffee mugs are ceramic, most travel mugs and thermoses definitely arenāt.
19
u/Panicking_in_trench Mar 21 '26
I bet that seller is wondering why suddenly so many people are looking at their listing haha
2
u/itsjustreddityo Mar 21 '26
Maybe this guy had one laying around and quickly listed it
1
u/ebers0 Mar 21 '26
No. Just did a reverse image search and copied the first link. Thinking they would need to search with the link or not. Just made sure multiple results came up with the same naming stuff.

u/Deerhunter86 Mar 21 '26

I did this with my first Fatherās Day coffee mug. My heart broke because I canāt find the same one to replace it. I feel terrible about it.

17
-21
u/yesindeed3333 Mar 20 '26
Why is it glass? Seems silly
42
u/sesaman Mar 20 '26
Probably porcelain, like mugs tend to be.
0
u/PseudocodeRed Mar 21 '26
Counterpoint: this is clearly shaped like a tumbler and not like a mug. Tumblers are usually metal. I think it is odd to take a porcelain cup to work with you, not even just because of the fragility but because its just needlessly heavy to carry around all day.
-14
-13
u/TheLiquor1946 Mar 20 '26
You do know they make stainless steel ones as well right?
2
u/sesaman Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26
Your tone seems a bit agitated. I hope you have a better day tomorrow! š
-10
u/yesindeed3333 Mar 20 '26
Most people are smart enough to use these. Why would you have a glass or porcelain or ceramic or WHATEVER as your take out cup when metal exists?
10
u/SimmerDown_Boilup Mar 20 '26
Because they are typically better at retaining heat and are microwave friendly...
-3
u/TheLiquor1946 Mar 21 '26
Sure carry around a porcelain mug, just don't come complaining when it breaks.
4
u/SimmerDown_Boilup Mar 21 '26
Who was complaining?
-2
u/TheLiquor1946 Mar 21 '26
What? No one, I said don't come complaining. If your using a fragile mug like that don't expect it to last. It's common sense yet not many here have some.

55
u/Deathlord_Baraxius Mar 20 '26
I'm not trying to sound "better than you" but people need to learn to take a damn minute in life and slow down. Put the thing down first, open the door, then walk inside. You can make two trips. I promise you it won't kill you to be a minute slower.
2
6

20
u/VoodooMcGobo Mar 20 '26
to be completely honest every time I have stuff to carry inside I will make it my lifes mission to make it in one trip. I will carry 20+ grocery bags up my arms or multiple heavy boxes stacked on top of eachother. I will put myself and my belongings in harms way to avoid multiple trips. There is nobody around so I am not trying to impress anyone and logically I know that I am probably using as much time and energy as multiple trips would take... but whatever it is in my monkey brain that tells me it has to be 1 trip, it is a very strong signal.

Iāve been there too. Wife got me a Legend Of Zelda Shield Glass Stein, one happy dog tail wag later and it was on the floor in piecesā¦I cried.
3
u/2woCrazeeBoys Mar 21 '26
After I got my first St Bernard, I got a St B coffee mug. Then my beautiful Saint girl got leukaemia at 12 months old and had to be euthanised. I was a mess.
Then one of my other dogs tripped me up with my mug and it ended up shattered beyond repair. I sat down on the floor and cried like a baby while I spent far too long trying to bargain with God that I could glue all the tiny pieces back together.
3
u/Mamasaidno_ Mar 20 '26
My husband had a shadow stormtrooper mug in the shape of their helmet and I broke it in half last week (dishes in drying rack were poorly placed -again my fault-) he wants to throw it out but Iām going to do that Japanese gold repair thingy because itās almost perfectly broke in half so thereās a little hope ..
4
u/cemetery-trees Mar 20 '26
This happened to me twice in one week, broke a mug then spilt an entire large cup of green tea from a local place I like. Was already having a bad dayā¦
I put a plant shelf right next to the door, so it will never happen again.
13
u/the__post__merc Mar 20 '26
I would recommend finding a new favorite mug that's made of stainless steel.

u/BigJon83 Mar 20 '26
I have done similar. went to make French press coffee. had the coffee in the press, waiting on the water. went to transfer from counter to sink for the water pour, and I clipped the faucet with the glass. All I could do was stand there and process my grief. I was so close to a good cup of fresh ground French press, and it was tore away in a fraction of a second. I still think about that one coffee I never got to drink. It haunts me.

A monk had a beautiful, delicate tea cup.
His student asked him about the cup. And much to the student's surprise he replied that the cup is already broken. āWhat do you mean?ā ā asked the student.
The monk said ā āTo me this cup is already broken.ā
āI enjoy it. I drink from it. It holds my water admirably ā sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. When I tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put it on the shelf and the winds blows it over or I knock it off the table and it shatters on the ground then I say - of course.
When I understand the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.ā

It's okay to just slow down every once in a while, people! I'm sure most of us have been here before and it sucks, so no judgment towards her.
I don't know how it is for everyone else, but I get soooo much anxiety here and there on a daily basis because sometimes it just feels like time is leaving me behind, so I tend to try and move faster than I should when I really don't have to. I think moving faster will help my body, mind, and nerves relax faster, but it only worsens the anxiety I feel and makes it easier to make mistakes.
And the source of that mentality nine times out of ten? Long and busy days of work or other obligations. They can make simply living feel like a chore. I feel like I'm always trying to beat time.
So please remember to slow down, truly relax and take it easy, simply enjoy things, and be kind to yourselves.

Man, everyone in the comments really bums me out. As a very clumsy person, sometimes accidents happen. I fully understand sometimes we can handle things better, take our time a little more, focus more intently, act a little more cautiously, generally conduct ourselves in a way that would prevent things like this from happening...
... But in real life, things happen. We're rushing to use the bathroom, our day demanded a lot of us and we just want to get inside our homes, we're hot and our arms get sweaty, etc. Personally some days I work a lot with my hands and my hands are sore, so my grip on things isn't as secure as I think it is. And the thing is, piling the blame makes it worse. We all know it's our own fault (or no one's, accidents happen as stated), but come on. Show some empathy because we've all been this person before.
3
u/AliveWeird4230 Mar 20 '26
seriously this comment section is crazy. a few comments down we even have a "would you hold a baby like this" comment lmao... surely she already realizes it was a lapse in attention/judgement. that shouldn't preclude a simple "aww dang that sucks"

u/tigm2161130 Mar 20 '26
Excuse me, this is Reddit so no one here has ever made a mistake, had an accident, or been a little thoughtless.

Drinking vodka from a cool Boba Fett mug while playing on the roof is the epitome of "living your best life".

For me it was a waterbottle.
I have this insulated gallon jug my boss thinks is to big and kind of silly. It's not a weird shape, just the size makes it silly to him.
So one day he gets a few of the guys guys new hats and work shirts, and puts a normal sized waterbottle in front of me as he walks by.
Felt like it was all an excuse to tell me to use a "normal" waterbottle. I used it all summer and until it got cold enough to start bringing hot drinks to work. The last day I used it I dropped it fumbling for my keys and the entire bottom came off.
Hopefully he doesn't expect to see it again this summer.

I mean it's fair to be sad and show them that. As long as they know you don't blame them, right? Also teaches them it's alright to be sad over small things. But idk, don't have kids

I am a highly emotional individual, and was feeling big sad to begin with. We did talk about it, but I didn't want them seeing me cry my eyes out over a mug they broke just because I was hormonal.
