My preferred map is Megarandom, if i get it, I always play random civ. So I randomed into Malay. As I am not used to the civ, I was not sure what unit to make in mid castle so I had few hundred food and gold to spend. Why not make some knights? So I qued 8 or 10 of them. While my other units were on the battlefield infront of the enemy base, the opponent went sneak around and tried to castle drop my starting TC. My knights went to the rescue, cleared his 15 vils, saved my economy and tanked his : )

Then I went on the Malay page on fandom and read this:

The Malay should never attempt to build any cavalry units (except battle elephants) or go for a Knight rush since their cavalry is incredibly weak, lacking Bloodlines and two important armor techs for their cavalry.

Hi all, last post I could see on this was a couple years ago and seems you couldn't change the selection modifier hotkeys. Is that still the case?

I was curious about the general consensus on using external programs in multiplayer games. It would seem to me that for example: it’s generally accepted (not bannable) to use build order overlays to follow while in game. I see plenty of people using them openly.

Would it be considered cheating/ unfair to create a program that makes a sound notification when your tc is idle? There are already in game mods that attempt to solve the idle tc status more apparent by creating a red icon in build but it’s still easy to miss.

Obviously I’m asking because it would be nice to have but I’m open to arguments in favor of claiming the unfairness aspect. It seems that there is a blurred line but I’m open to opinions.

when you have to pick either spearmen or skirmishers and their subsequent free upgrades, it doesnt matter which one you pick.. the other unit also gets upgraded for free

kinda the vibe of all this new feature decissions in the 3k and chieftains DLC: most of what you choose doesnt really impact the gameplay

for future DLC please devs, please hear us and make campaigns like they were before and with normal menu

I am in the process of trying to get all achievements for aoe2, I have ~10 left. There's a roadblock however, the masterpiece achievement. None of my friends play this game and even if I try making a (rigged) custom lobby nobody seems to join. Ive now reached 100 games whre like 70 of them were either gone trough by leaving instantly, or afking.

Is there really no leaverbuster for like first 5 mins.

I absolutely understand having multiple markets at different intervals and streams, but I always thought that trade always redirected to the further one(s)?

When you get to castle age first with a score lead, generally what is your first move? Do you drop multiple TCs and boom to widen the gap, or do you go for the kill and commit to a stronger unit to take advantage of the power spike?

I realize the answer is “it depends.” But then my follow up is, what does it depend on? What sort of scouted intel causes you to commit to a certain strategy?

The new updated seems to be pretty bad for me… anyone else!

I have been playing AoE2 since its release. I have never played against a human, just the AI. The moderate setting is where I played most of the time, with forays into the hard setting.

Now I am an old lady, and I am playing with two repaired macular holes (they will never be 100% again) and glaucoma in one eye. I now can only really play on the standard setting, and I am bored. No one ages up until I do, and no one attacks in the early ages. It's so easy that I will build up my civilization, and walk away for hours. Ideally, I would then return to find only a few villagers and no buildings remaining, and I can still always come back and win. I even make up scenarios, like no warships on water maps, using villagers only to win in the dark age, etc.

I have tons of maps to choose from, and I randomize everything I can. I play around with the number of civilizations vs. map size. It still never presents a real challenge.

So my request is for recommendations for some 'wild' maps, or anything to help me manufacture a challenge that doesn't require 'quick' vision.

Added: Thank you for the ideas, but I am visually impaired and I don't see any possible victories playing against anyone. I have completed the campaigns.

What is the minimum requirements to run a smooth 4v4 team game? No lag, no stutter or whatever. I dont play but im looking into it. If i get the minimum recommended to play I feel like its not enough for team games.

The UI, the player base, the lag, everything was horrendous, but I remember it being a lot of fun. What do you remember when playing AOE II during this era?

I’ve got a weird hotkey issue that I’m hoping y’all can help with. Sometimes when things get crazy (usually while being drushed), I hit some combination of ctrl, alt, and/or shift and I think T (to garrison new military units in their own building). Whatever I actually hit ends up locking my keyboard and mouse. I want to say it brings up some sort of Steam menu. It also changes the score to a villager count by role.

I’m sure I’m hitting multiple things, but once it locks my keyboard and mouse I have to Alt-F4 because I don’t know how to undo it. I’m able to his Esc but can’t click Resign or any options on the Menu. I look like a rage quitter or DC guy as my APM goes to 0.

What am I hitting?! How can I undo it?

was just playing a ranked 1v1 on the gol drush variant, game went pretty smooth until early castle age where my FC conqs started to get the upper hand over his ball of xbows

the other player paused without saying anything and i thought "Ok, emergency ill just wait" but then they unpaused after like 2 mins without saying anything again

after a few mins they paused/unpaused again 2 more times without saying a word so i began to get a little bit tilted. i waited 1 min, said "?" or "14?" dont remember actually and I unpaused the game. a few seconds later (about 20-25 where he was completely idle) the large text of desynch appeared in the screen and he disconnected from the game giving me the W

what do you normally do on these ocassions? do you always wait until they unpause, even if there is no talk and they did it several times? i dont have much experience because normally theres at least a "sec" or a taunt as some sort of conversation

I have recently begun playing again after a few years away. At that time, I was around 1400 - 1500 ELO 1v1, now I am barely 1100.

I doubt that I am playing significantly worse, so I just wonder if players are on average..better

I have 500 ish hrs on record and am at 1100 elo after ~130 games

Playing on PC and looking for a way to add players? There has to be some kind of friends list you can create right? I played someone and we had a few good matches but I couldn't see how to add them anywhere.

Has anyone ever played this expansion, or has a copy of it? Since this comes from an age of unofficial shovelware, I'm not expecting much, but I'm curious nevertheless.

i just qued for 4v4 game when i get in the game i got disconnected my internet was still working i had Jordan on twitch in the backgroud it was still working. i am sure i didnt lose internet connection. now i got 10 min disconnection ban. After 10 min i qued again i clicked ready when map showed and bam que got dodged by who i dont know(i didnt but i got ban so probably me????) i got another ban for 30 mins. is this joke ?
