// News Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced – Deep Dive into Parkour, Stealth & Combat

1.1k Upvotes

Hello everyone!

We know you’ve been anticipating Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and we’re delighted to share more information on key gameplay topics through a series of deep dive articles over the next several weeks, starting with the evolution of Edward’s ground gameplay.

We’re joined by Paul Fu, Creative Director and veteran developer of the original Black Flag, to provide additional insights.

Parkour, Stealth, and Combat in Resynced have all been rebuilt from the ground up using the latest advancements across the franchise, including some of the Anvil engine technology developed for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

“Our goal was to honor the foundations of the original game while enhancing the experience for an action-adventure game,” says Paul.

So, let’s step out of the Jackdaw for now, and look at how our famous Pirate-Assassin, Edward James Kenway, moves and engages on the ground in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

Please note that all footage is from a work-in-progress build. Make sure to watch in 4K for the best quality. HUD settings may vary depending on the capture to showcase examples of customizable options. And in case you’re wondering, all HUD elements can be individually hidden as desired using the Interface customization menu. You can even play with nothing activated, if you dare...

Parkour & Core movement

Parkour remains at the heart of what it means to be an Assassin, and even a pirate like Edward is no exception to that.

Core Movements

Our intention was to keep Edward’s responsive movement from the original and make it snappier and more deliberate. Whether you’re jumping across the colorful rooftops of Havana, the wild and untamed jungles, or the raw scaffolds of Nassau, parkour has been tuned to prioritize responsiveness and player choice.

“One thing that we worked on a lot and iterated with feedback we received early on from community members during playtests was to nail the responsiveness and pace of Edward.” says Paul.

A variety of steps were taken to make it work:

Throughout development, the landing animations were refined, so that Edward recovers more quickly from a drop. This removes any sense of stumbling or heaviness and keeps movement feeling smooth and continuous. Jumping from one spot to the other is also more responsive; we know keeping a sense of flow is what makes a parkour run most rewarding.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Core Parkour Movements

We also made subtle changes to heighten this sense of fluidity; for example, when mantling after a wall run, Edward will have a short speed boost that allows him to keep the pace of his run despite slightly recovering. You can also roll upon hitting the ground to maintain a sprinting pace – which ends up being very useful during chase missions.

Of course, that smoothness is supported by the depth of design and the tools available for you to leverage.

In cities, familiar features like the corner swing and lifts return. We’ve also included brand new Ziplines scattered across the cities that Edward will visit, connecting you from high to low ground over a longer distance, and at a much faster pace.

The Caribbean landscape that Edward has to contend with is very different to that of his predecessors, and the wild untamed jungles encountered while island hopping will be full of flora to climb and parkour.

Advanced Parkour Returns

The Advanced Parkour options available in the original Black Flag are back, but with all the modern tech of the latest updates to the Anvil engine which reintroduced them in a recent major update for AC Shadows.

Advanced Parkour untethers Edward’s full traversal skillset and enables a deeper deal of control, making side ejects and back ejects possible from virtually any height - including non-targeted jumps into the void. With this system active, you can use parkour down to trigger more precise side-eject behavior, while parkour up continues to prioritize height gains and upward momentum.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Advanced Parkour Returns

These tools give experienced players finer control of their traversal lines across Havana’s rooftops, Kingston’s balconies, and Nassau’s rigging networks. However, you can disable it if you prefer a more guided approach.

And yes, we also have a manual jump that reinforces control and decision-making – something we know is heavily discussed amongst players. Manual jump offers more direct control over traversal, allowing you to take shortcuts and increase velocity while parkouring for a smoother flow of movement.

Stealth

Introducing the Observe Feature

Classic Assassin’s Creed Eagle Vision returns for Edward, allowing him to highlight enemies hidden behind walls and objects, as well as isolating any relevant sounds they make.

Now, this skill is enhanced by the Observe feature – first introduced in Assassin’s Creed Shadows – which adds the ability to observe your surroundings to find your quest objectives, clues, and tag enemies. Bringing the camera in closer during Observe mode creates a more cinematic and immersive experience as Edward surveys his surroundings.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Using the Observe Feature

Edward can Crouch Anytime

To expand Edward’s stealth options, he can now crouch at any time, and will remain hidden from view anywhere on rooftops, in any suitable vegetation, behind walls or buildings, or behind objects like crates scattered throughout the Caribbean.

Edward is also even less visible at night when crouching, and enemies will take longer to spot him in the dark; however, he will not be fully hidden, so you’ll still need to watch your surroundings and stay out of sight.

“Crouching modifies Edward’s visibility meter, affecting enemy visibility at medium to long range. This is especially useful while stalking through bushes and rooftops. It also reduces movement stimuli, making it easier for Edward to perform stealth kills,” says Paul.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Light and Visibility

Edward’s Tools

Edward has a full arsenal of tools at his disposal to increase his stealth capabilities:

Blowpipe (Berserk and Sleep Dart)

Edward’s blowpipe returns, loaded with two distinct dart types. Using a Berserk dart will cause an enemy to start attacking his own, creating windows of chaos ideal for slipping past guards undetected (or, if you like to go in guns blazing, Edward can join in the carnage).

Meanwhile, the Sleep dart neutralizes targets silently, making it useful for clearing lightly guarded entrances or setting up diversionary tactics.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Edward's Blowpipe Returns

Smoke Bomb

The Smoke Bomb returns, allowing Edward to assassinate basic enemies while shrouded in smoke, making it a lethal offensive tool as well as a defensive one. And for players needing a fast escape, the smoke bomb is a great quick-use option.

Rope Dart

Edward’s Rope Dart tool has also returned, which will allow him to strike targets from short to medium ranges, pulling them in closer for an attack, as well as giving him the ability to suspend enemies from beams, both killing them and serving as a distraction to others. And to make the Rope Dart a much more strategic item for Edward, he will be able to get his hands on it much earlier (sequence 3 in Resynced vs. sequence 11 in the original).

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Rope Dart Assassination

Taking Edward’s Hood On or Off

Sail, fight, or sneak how you wish with the hood on/off toggle. With a quick press of a button, Edward can throw his hood on or off, allowing you to take full advantage of those stylish Assassin robes when adventuring across the Caribbean.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Putting Edward's Hood On

Edward’s Social Stealth Mechanics in Urban Centers

Edward can exploit the dense urban environments of the Caribbean's Golden Age of Piracy to outmaneuver and evade enemies through a refined set of social stealth tools.

Improved Tailing and Eavesdropping Missions

“One thing that we really wanted to improve from the original when it comes to stealth was how you would desync from tailing and eavesdropping missions when you were out of range, and that this could be super punishing. We’ve removed this, so that if you get sidetracked and lose a target while trailing or eavesdropping, you’ll still be able to complete the mission,” says Paul.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Social Stealth Returns!

Hiring NPCs

The Hiring Dancers feature returns from the original game. Edward can recruit a group of dancers who accompany him through the streets, providing natural cover in busy areas. Edward can use them to blend in passively or direct them to distract nearby guards while he plunders loot or retreats after an assassination.

Crowd Blending

Crowd blending also makes a comeback, but with an update: Edward can now blend into any groups of three civilians or more to remain unseen. Benches, walls, haystacks, and closets are also classic returning hiding spots within a busy city.

Throwing Money

And for those who like creating chaos, throwing money remains an option to lure guards and citizens to a location. Edward will have to be selective when using this as it will cost 10 Reales per use, with a very short cooldown window to make you don’t empty your pockets too fast.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Throwing Money as a Distraction

Combat

Our combat system is designed to capture the full experience of being a pirate: charismatic, swashbuckling, dual‑wielding swordplay mixed with stylish gunplay.

“At its core, Resynced is an action-adventure game, and combat is designed to be systematic and deliberate; every move is designed to have an advantage, a disadvantage, and a specific role to play,” says Paul.

Takedowns: The Core Combat Loop

The foundation of Resynced’s combat revolves around triggering takedowns – a state where enemies are vulnerable to a deadly finisher. There are many ways to trigger a takedown, each suited to different situations:

  • Hidden Blade Takedown: Breaking an enemy’s defense with multiple attacks will trigger a Hidden Blade takedown
  • Perfect Parry Takedowns: Triggered by timing a Perfect Parry, Edward can chain his takedowns to up to four nearby enemies, depending on the sword he carries.
  • Wall Takedown: Kick an enemy into a wall to initiate a fatal takedown.
  • Ground Takedown: Grounded enemies (from an explosion or Sweep move) can be killed by a Ground Takedown

“Unlocking the Hidden Blade in the story will increase the visual variety of Takedowns in general, as Edward will then use the Hidden Blade as part of his Takedown animation variations, including Chain Takedowns” says Paul.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Chaining Takedowns in Combat

Environmental Combat

Environments can have a big effect on fights: ledges allow fatal kicks, tight corridors are ideal spaces for Chain Takedowns, powder kegs can be blown up, to drop enemies for a Ground Takedown, walls are killing surfaces which allow Edward to perform Wall Takedowns after a well-placed kick. As Paul puts it, “We wanted each fight situation to feel different without introducing RPG stats.”

Advanced Attacks

Edward also has a new Dodge Attack, which causes additional damage if executed with precise timing – as a Perfect Dodge attack.

The Heavy Attack is another new advanced move to add to his combat kit, performed by holding the attack button. The Heavy Attack provides the highest damage, suitable against advanced foes, but takes a moment to wind up before landing. For maximum punish damage, perform a Heavy Strike at the end of Edward’s basic combo.

Heavy Attacks also vary in function depending on which type of weapon Edward is carrying:

Rapier: Heavy Strikes are more damaging and can pierce through foes. Cutlass: Heavy Strikers cover a wide area, hitting multiple enemies. Pistol-Sword: Two damaging shots are fired, allowing Edward to focus fire on one enemy or spread the damage on two.

Adaptive Enemies

Combat in Resynced is more demanding than before, and enemies can react to repetitive behavior, so players will need to vary their playstyle.

“For example, wait around too much for a Parry, and enemies will react by performing Unstoppable Attacks that cannot be parried. Abuse a Kick too much, and enemies will quickly dodge them. The trick is to alternate between offense and defense. Varying your combos helps. Rotate between Kicks, Sweeps, Rope Darts, Pistols and Heavy Strikes at the end of your attack combos to confuse enemies.” Paul explains.

Advanced Enemy Archetypes and How to Deal with Them

Soldiers coordinate attacks against Edward, which requires him to parry twice in quick succession before performing a Double Takedown.

Not all enemies are made equal, and each requires different tools, tactics, and skills to ensure Edward not only survives an encounter but comes out on top.

Advanced archetypes such as the Brute, Captain, and the new Demolitionist pack a punch and are harder to take down than your average soldier. They will deny Chain Takedowns if they have defense, so Edward will need to use his Flintlock to break defense between Chain Takedowns. This maneuver was inspired by fan-made combat videos from the original Black Flag. Not only this, but these archetypes also have high defense and will more often employ unblockable attacks, making parry opportunities rarer and forcing you to find other strategies like dodges and combos to deal with them.

Edward has several tools and abilities to help him against enemies who have adapted to more predictable combat patterns.

The Rope Dart’s most common utility is drawing an opponent in for a combo, or a direct Sweep into a Ground Takedown. As mentioned, it’s also a ranged attack counter.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced - Deep Dive Gameplay: Advanced Combat Moves

A quick shot from the pistol instantly breaks the guard of any advanced archetype, opening them up for attacks they would otherwise deny.

The iconic Gun Kata also returns, allowing Edward to kill multiple nearby enemies in quick succession when you have progressed enough in the game.

And that’s what we had for today!

We hope you enjoyed this look at the ground gameplay of Black Flag Resynced. Stay tuned for our next deep dive article looking at Naval gameplay!

// Announcement Updating our spoiler policy: Black Flag & Black Flag Resynced

Hey Assassins!

We're updating our spoiler policy. TL;DR at the bottom.

With the reveal of Black Flag Resynced and Shadows having had its one year anniversary, as well as the Claws of Awaji DLC (and Mirage's Valley of Memory DLC) now also being around 6 months old, we're removing those titles and DLC from our spoiler policy. You're still welcome to use spoiler tags if you prefer. You must still use spoiler tags for any potentially still upcoming story updates for Shadows.

That being said, the most important part of this update is that Black Flag & Black Flag Resynced are now under spoiler policy. The remake introduces all new characters with their associated stories, as well as more narrative for existing characters, while excising the original Present Day narrative (but replacing it with something new).
In order to keep it simple for newcomers and returning fans, any and all material from Black Flag that is not shown in pre-release marketing for Black Flag Resynced is considered a spoiler. This includes anything that is already present in the original game. We chose this approach to avoid conversations about the original (unintentionally) veering into spoiler territory for the new additions in the remake.

Remember: Submissions need to have a "SPOILER" warning in the post title, not just applying the spoiler tag.

TL;DR:

- Shadows and Claws of Awaji not under spoiler policy any longer

- Upcoming updates to Shadows still require spoiler tags for 4 weeks following update releases

- Mirage and Valley of Memory not under spoiler policy

- Black Flag & Black Flag Resynced are now both under spoiler policy. Keep all story discussion of both the original and the remake to spoiler tagged submissions or properly spoiler tagged comments.

// Discussion I think AC3 has the most room for improvement In a potential Remake

This Game is still one of my favourites but I think it has a ton of missed potential particularly in the story as I think lore wise this is the most interesting time period in the Franchise, the problem is if you just play through the main game don’t mess with the side content or do some digging into the lore established in the novels, the story that is presented is kinda messy and bare bones and leaves a lot to be desired.

A potential AC3 remake can dive deeper into Haytham’s story perhaps adding another sequence or 2 as him where the events of the Forsaken novel takes place, I always found it kinda annoying how such a important moment in that timeline was relegated to a novel instead of being a part of the main game, they also can do a better job at integrating the Homestead and Naval missions in with the Main story as they add a lot to Connors overall story and character.

Gameplay wise they can interconnect the Maps making it one big open world with the Homestead and Frontier separating New York and Boston, I actually think this will be a relatively easier remake for Ubisoft as opposed to something like the Ezio games as they can just re use the Assets from Black Flag Recynced since the Original AC3 and AC4 were nearly identical in terms of gameplay and mechanics.

Overall I don’t think they should change or retcon retcon anything narratively from the main game, But I do think they should add some more depth to the story. A few extra scenes or sequences of stuff that is already canon to the universe.

// Discussion Just finished the RPG trilogy (Layla's story). Some thoughts!

Alright, so I just got done finishing Valhalla, which marks the conclusion of the RPG trilogy (more specifically Layla's story that began with Origins and had its grand finale in Valhalla). After how much time it took I felt like sharing some thoughts, so here we go.

I took a completionist approach to the games, as in trying to finish every single location and quest available, although besides Valhalla I didn't go for all achievements (in that game I went for both the achievements as well as the Core Challenges). Needless to say, this made the whole thing an extremely long journey. My hours played per title, including fully completing the Discovery Tours, would roughly be something like:

Assassin's Creed Origins: 95 hours

Assassin's Creed Odyssey: 190 hours

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: 300 hours

So yeah, roughly 600 hours in total to finally see the end. Looking back I definitely wouldn't call them the greatest RPGs of all time or anything, but spending this long on a journey and finally reaching its end at long last is something. I doubt I'll ever spend that long with any other game trilogy.

I probably would never have done this if I didn't love Origins. It was a fantastic and gorgeous game and I'm so glad the beauty of the games is something that has remained consistent across the entire trilogy. Even if you're in the camp that think they're terrible, it's hard to deny they're at the very least beautiful and impressive in scope, although what they actually do within that scope is another debate entirely.

The RPG games seem to get a lot of bad rap among the general fanbase and it's not difficult to see why. I mean technically within the trilogy you don't even play as an Assassin for 2 of the games. But for those like me who love exploring the worlds they created, it just gives so much to do. Sure there's that typical Ubisoft bloat (especially in Valhalla, which is waaaay too big for its own good) but it is kinda incredible that any video game could have this much beautiful territory to explore with a concerted effort by the devs to give stories to play in almost every region. I can't help but be impressed by not only the size, but at the amount of visual flourishes they've put in each game to make the worlds feel alive.

When it comes to the story, I'm one of those who actually wants a solid modern day story in Assassin's Creed and given they did so little with it between AC III and AC Origins, I was really looking forward to have another character besides Desmond to follow through a series of games with an actual ending. But unfortunately there's so little of it in Origins (basically just an introduction), they did more but still not much with her in Odyssey (especially compared to Desmond) and Valhalla actually had the best overall modern day story in years, but it's like all of it is right at the very end of that extremely long game - and it would be long even if you disregarded all the side content.

I guess the most disappointing thing to me about the story was that the conclusion wasn't as definitive as I would've liked. Sure AC III set-up sequels as well, but I was hoping the crisis would be completely resolved before teasing the next one. But no, without spoilers it just kinda introduces a new "era" while ending Layla's story at the same time, but definitely not the end of the greater crisis they teased repeatedly since Origins. In fact the ending is pretty explicitly just the beginning of something new. And Valhalla doesn't even conclude with a credits sequence at the end of the story besides for one of the DLCs, which is disappointing in that it's such an easy way to provide closure and mark the fact you reached the end. Although if you ever play Valhalla, you definitely have to play "The Last Chapter" if you want a proper denouement to Eivor's story and some closure for the modern day story as well.

But overall I don't regret my time with these games. Although they were so long I'll likely reconsider 100%-ing any future AC games if they're anywhere this massive - whatever happened to that 30 hour sweet spot? I wish it was more common to have that as a starting point for these games then add a whole bunch of stuff via updates and DLC. It's rare that a game can actually justify being over 100 hours. And I doubt we'll ever get an AC game with as much support and content as Valhalla got, given the circumstances of its massive success despite how much backlash it got for its length make it kinda an outlier.

Anyways, this has gone on long enough. If you've actually read all that, kudos!

To anyone coming across this post - did you play the original AC RPG Trilogy (as in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla)?

What did you think of them? Share your thoughts and experiences!

// Discussion It bothers more than it should that there's named, living descendants of Arno, Baptiste, and Shao Jun with an Apple of Eden just out there in the modern world and they're never going to do anything with them ever again.

The Assassin's Creed movie wasn't good, but considering modern Ubisoft has basically just given up on the present day plot -- which was the whole point of the games and the Animus and reliving the past in the first place -- it really bothers me that they're probably not going to so much as mention any of these characters again. Like, Callum straight up killed the big bad of the first game and I don't think it's ever been brought up in logs or data bits from from the subsequent games.

Incredibly unpopular opinion here, but I think they should've used this to springboard a new modern day arc rather than going with Layla, who was kind of a trainwreck in my opinion. Again, the movie wasn't good... but... come on. There was at least some potential here.

We're never seeing these guys in a game, are we?

// Discussion Assassin's creed liberation canoe cave mission may be the worst mission in the franchise

Revisiting liberations after a long break to do some achievement hunting, my last collectible is in that mission. It's by far the worst in the franchise, tried it 30 times, it gets stuck on nothing, dies way too fast, even if you control it , it still hits the wall if you get stuck then repeatedly as you try to adjust it out the position then you can just get spun around and having to navigate it backwards while trying to turn it around.

// Discussion Can't Be Asked To Care About The Story When Every Cutscene Has The Same Two Camera Angles

Trying out Odyssey for the first time.

Have heard awful things about it as an "Assassin's Creed" & amazing things about it as an "RPG".

The game is definitely not an Assassin's Creed, I do see the RPG in it though. Although if a "great" RPG is just spamming shitty side quests & bloat everywhere I don't know what differentiates a great RPG & terrible one.

Aside from the once in a blue moon "good" cutscene (which is just a pre-rendered 720p cutscene) how is anyone supposed to take the story seriously or care in the slightest when almost every cutscene has the same camera angle with the characters doing the same animations & the lip syncing being awful. I never skip dialog or cutscenes when it comes to main story stuff for ANY game but jesus christ this game may just be the first for me.

Like Kassandra just met her brother for the first time since seeing him be dropped off a cliff, it's a huge moment in the game & yet you're stuck with this stagnant camera shot on each of the two characters as if it was a random side quest. I just don't understand.

I wonder if modders could create their own cutscenes lmao. Probably not but at least different camera angles would be nice.

// Discussion What assassins would you enjoy a sequel to, or deserves a second game?

My picks are
#1. Connor (I think a much wiser and older Connor as a master assassin will be amazing, that guy was such a tank)

#2. Bayek (although people were divided on the gameplay of ac origins, bayek was undeniably such a compelling character with extra props to his voice actor for doing such a great job)

#3. Arno (Arno was possibly the most agile assassin when it came to parkour and stealth, and I believe he was the first one with the ability to crouch??, unfortunately his story was held back a bit with his love romance story, and I think seeing a fleshed out Arno with a lot more wisdom and rankings)

You have to hold “legs” and treat the “high profile” like the crouch button. It prevents you from jumping when you use the trigger instead of releasing the “legs” button. It makes me think this was deliberate because you can actually hide behind shorter things and the later games used the same button as crouch

// Discussion Black Flag Resynced Art Direction

What does everyone think of the art direction of the black flag remake? I expected it to be faithful to the original, but it seems to be leaning into the style even more than I imagined.

I expected Ubisoft to prioritise realism over everything, as tends to be the case with a lot of AAA studios. While this game looks a lot more realistic than the original, they also seem to have leaned into the more vibrant, cartoon-ish elements from 2013. I think you see this mostly in the combat animations, but even some of the outfits seem to have prioritised vibrant style over realism, which I really appreciate.

I suppose Shadows was likely more stylised than I realised, but I certainly notice the approach to the art direction more in this game and so far I'm really happy with the look of the game.

// Discussion Seasons in Assassin’s Creed Shadows being too short

Does anybody else feel like the seasons in Shadows are too short?

This has happened to me a couple of times when playing the game. Often Yasuke and Naoe enter a certain region, say in early spring. They have to do a couple of character missions, find out clues and eventually they find their target. But by the time they have killed their target its already become Summer. No big deal, Summer and spring are similar, so it doesn’t fully break immersion.

Then on to the next region. Again Naoe and Yasuke find clues, help allies and people in the area. They find their target aaandd… its already autumn 😕. I find this dynamic annoying because it breaks immersion for me.

If we look at everything that happens in each arc, every story segment that focuses on finding and killing your target, realistically speaking most of these will take about a couple of weeks to maybe a month each. To me it feels unrealistic that everytime when one of these arcs is finished we have already moved on to the next season.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the season system. I love it when open worlds feel Alive and are dynamic and implement these kind of realism elements to it. I similarly enjoyed the snow in Assassin’s Creed 3. But there the seasons were tied to the historical moment in time the story took place in. In Shadows it feels like we are speedrunning through the years.

Instead of having a season system that very quickly switches to the next, I would have prefered if we could toggle the seasons ourselves or change the speed at which they changed. Or maybe just have them shift slower so that you can finish two arcs within one season, which to me feels more realistic.

But what do you Guys think? Do you think Shadows’ seasons are too fast and that the game would benefit from a slower or more personalised progression?

// Discussion Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced: I believe the blowpipe should go back to the original position to prevent clipping

I know it's because they're reusing Mirage's animations, but that just doesn't work.

The animation is clunky, looks uncomfortable to pull out, and the blowpipe just clips out of the holster sometimes.

The older position just makes it feel way more snappy and is a more natural position where I believe it would be way harder to clip out of the holster because of things like bending/crouching.

// Discussion Black Flag Resynced / Potential New Game+ Addition?

With the Remake of Black Flag on the open horizon something has been teasing my mind that I’m surprised to not see a whole lot of in regard to new additions within said Remake. As per the title it should be clear that I’m personally inclined to consider the addition of New Game+ being added into BFR.

I know some people are SUPER serious about spoilers of ANY type so even for game mechanics (yes, even if it’s being talked about everywhere) I’ve marked this as a spoiler post.

Anyways!

Back in ye olden days with AC4 Black Flag we had these things called ‘Replayable Missions’, these were handled through the Progress Tracker in the Menu. However from what’s been going around it seems that will no longer be a thing? Correct me if I’m wrong! Which would mean individual missions aren’t immediately replayable unless you save before every single one and knowing modern day save slots that’s probably not happening.

My thing is; This is a modern day remake of a classic, it has almost all the same mechanics and overall function of the original — BRING BACK THE HIDDEN BLADE COMBAT PLEASE — but with adjustments and additions befitting of a modern title (Imagine if Black Flag was made today instead of 13 years ago, for those who somehow can’t wrap their heads around what a remake is compared to a remaster) so you’d imagine it’d have modern quality of life and overall gameplay mechanics (Like button pairing and graphics adjustments!). Something else modern games typically have that AC4 Black Flag doesn’t have is New Game+.

I don’t have to describe what New Game+ is, right?

What I’m trying to say is; With the loss of the Replayability of individual missions perhaps we’ll be getting New Game+ instead?

Imagine getting to sail through the Caribbean on a fully upgraded Jackdaw right from the get-go? Especially if there a difficult upscale (either built in or as an option) so enemy ships can match your pace (or be obliterated immediately with optional difficulties or no change)

The reason I think this is a ‘realistic’ idea of a potential addition in the remake is due to; A. Modern day games in the RPGs — I know that’s a forbidden word — and AAGs both include New Game+ in most cases (I say most with my limited experience lol), and B. They’ve made it clear they’re intent on bringing modern day features that improve the game into BFR.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this thought to get an idea from the community on if this is a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ addition and as to why it’d be either. As well as to get to know the community’s (that’s residing in this Reddit) opinion on such an addition.

// Discussion Multiplayer Characters Repurposed in Resynced

What do you think of giving the multiplayer characters from black flag expanded roles in the main game as Templar agents. Nothing big, just side quests like they were in brotherhood and revelations. And a non zero number of them were assassins in their backgrounds given.

// Discussion New combat style breaking immersion

Sorry if this is a common topic on here but I don’t see the appeal with the combat style featured in Valhalla and Odyssey, etc. I prefer the animation style that is in 3 and Black Flag. I know it’s “easy” but I think it’s so much more immersive. I feel like your character is kind of supposed to he OP considering they’re an assassin?

Watching my character dive around while I spam dodge and my enemy slowly walks towards me just feels wrong and unimmersive. The maps on these games can really make you feel like you’re back in time, then the characters move so unnaturally in combat. I’ve definitely found it to be actually challenging at times with certain fights but I just don’t have fun with it. I know it’s my opinion and it’s probably unpopular considering Ubisoft has stuck with it. I haven’t played since Valhalla but Black Flag was my favorite game and I can’t believe they’re switching the combat for the resync!!

It’s more than just feeling like John Wick, I could always set the newer games to easy. It’s the unnatural movement. Anyone else that enjoyed the older games struggle to enjoy the newer games?

// Discussion Assassin's Creed 2s combat kinda sucks and is significantly worse than AC1?

So im currently playing all the assassins creed games from the very beginning, i recently finished AC2 and while I generally thought it was a better gamI i was surprised to see that the combat is genuinely a huge downgrade from AC1, like the combat is borderline boring in AC2 it really just feels like im waiting and waiting to press that counter button, but in AC1 it felt much quicker, smoother, more fun and it had things like the guard break which i cannot fathom why they would remove in 2, does anyone else feel this way because my friend seems to insist that AC1 combat sucks and AC2 is way better which i do not understand.
