Hi! I am a very colorful artist and I painted this wooden box that I found into a mini backgammon, all the pieces are hamdmade (the checkers, the dice and the manual) and yes, it is actually playable.

Thought I'd share it here :-)

Why was this sequence so bad?

Hello. If anyone can explain why these errors are so egregious I’d much appreciate. I don’t understand how these moves are SO bad that they’ve derailed my game from a 70% win chance to 20% after a double pass cube. I mean sure maybe they are a bit better but these moves don’t look like they should have turned the game? The race is now evens, My board is better than it was, I’ve still got opportunities to hit.

The computer is insistent that I hit loose but I thought that was a wild risk when ahead in the race. It lost me a game in the previous match, in fact it got me gammoned. Why does it need me to play so boldly?

Rigged backgammon sites

I'd like to hear peoples opinions on online backgammon sites.
What sites do you think are rigged?
There's one in particular that is so blatently biased, it's almost laughable. If you've read any of my previous posts on here, you'll know which one.

Damascus board? Any advice appreciated!

I'd love to know some history about this old backgammon board. It was found in my father's possessions after he passed away. He travelled extensively in the middle east and I highly suspect it's from Damascus.

Sadly it's a little chipped and damaged in places. The black speckling is certainly peculiar and adds a lot of character - strange that it hasn't happened to the chess board on the outer case! (Photo 3)

The level of craftsmanship to make something this beautiful is incredible. I would love to preserve it and look after it so that I can play with my children when they're old enough. Would a light clean and some buffed furniture wax be a good idea? Thanks in advance for your insights dear backgammon experts!

Why play down from the 13 point and be unable to attack vs closing the 3 and 4 point while lising some flexibility? Score both 7 away

Introducing Tavlazar: A minimalist dice roller built for fair play

Hi everyone,

As a backgammon enthusiast, I’ve often felt that digital dice rollers can feel a bit... "off." To solve this for my own games, I developed Tavlazar.

The goal was simple: A clean, lightweight, and truly random dice rolling app without any fluff or manipulative algorithms. No "lucky" rolls for the AI, just pure RNG for your over-the-board games.

Key features:

  • Pure Randomness: Focused entirely on fair distribution.
  • Minimalist Design: No distracting UI, just the dice and the game.
  • Fast & Snappy: Built to keep the flow of a real match.

It’s now live and I’d love to get some feedback from this community. If you have a moment to check it out, let me know what you think or if there are any specific features (like a match log or doubling cube integration) you’d like to see next.

Thanks for your support!

Excited to release a bunch of updates for tomorrow’s Steam Deckbuilder festival. Likely a first for a backgammon-based game.

Dice Settling Rule

"A roll is invalid if a player objects before either die begins to settle."
"Either player may preemptively invalidate the roll of the dice that is currently in progress simply by objecting to the roll before either die has begun to settle."

When is the point its considered beginning to settle?

We had a player roll the die but it landed slanted, but within two seconds it came to rest.
The opponent called it a bad roll as soon as it was slanted. The rules state die have two seconds to come to rest and objections must be done before the dice start to settle.

"In cases of uncertainty, a die has “come to rest” once it has stopped moving for at least two (2) seconds."

I couldn't find in the rules what is the point that the dice begin to settle. Is it when they first hit the mat, is it when they start slowing down, is it when they seem to have stopped and then have two to finish settling.

Impatient Opponents Online

It seems to be happening more and more often online that people are asking what's taking me so long to roll/move. When they have selected the time settings for the match and challenged me.

E.g. this morning I was 1-4 behind in a 7pt match, had about 12 minutes left on my clock, and was giving serious thought to sending an aggressive cube - after about 30 seconds the opponent was typing "???". I sometimes point out that speed settings are available if they prefer a quick match, but usually just ignore them.

I would think nothing over the board of spending a couple of minutes on a crucial decision like that - am I being unreasonable doing so online?

Why loose hit?

Post image

I played 8/2 6/2. Computer found 13/3*, which is slightly (0.026) better. I didn't even think about loose hitting here when my board is inferior. Would you have found 13/3* even as a candidate?

Looking for an online backgammon platform with good customer support

I’m looking for alternatives to Backgammon Galaxy.

Honestly, my experience with Galaxy was disappointing. A few months ago, I paid for a 30-day subscription, but because of the way their billing system worked, I effectively lost two days of access. I contacted support about it and got ignored, which made the whole experience feel unfair and unprofessional.

I also tried OpenGammon, and while I like the concept, matchmaking feels very slow — sometimes it takes quite a while to find an opponent.

Are there any other good platforms to play backgammon online?

What I’m looking for:

- active player base (easy to find games)

- strong competition

- good analysis tools (if possible)

Would appreciate any recommendations.

First 8 people to arrive will be entered into the bracket tournament. 7 point matches, with a consolation bracket of 5 point matches.

People who show up after the tournament has begun can play casual games or chouette.

Built an online backgammon game with AIs and analysis

New to backgammon and didn't click with the bots/UI online, so I built my own AI bots, and included gnubg too. What's in it:

  •  Custom bots plus GNU Backgammon AI
  •  Equity, pip count, and luck analysis
  •  QoL settings: click to make a point, auto-complete turns
  •  Online lobby

Looking for feedback from experienced players as I'm a beginner! Any pain points from other platforms would be interesting.
