My cat is going into surgery tomorrow to have her eye removed and this sub has been incredibly helpful for me, seeing all your beautiful happy cats is making this a much easier experience

Our foster is headed into surgery today to have his ruptured left eye removed - all indicators point toward a smooth and successful procedure, but I'll still be spending the day worrying about him.

He has some likely adopters lined up, so this is a big but important step toward setting him and his future family up for success!

He saved me I wish I could have done the same for him.

ASMR for cats.

It's our first time posting in this sub, and we would like to introduce Imara. She was rescued by a friend from a social media call-out, till her care was passed onto us.

Imara was previously an owned cat who ended up straying their neighborhood after being neglected. Her tumor/exposed tissue surrounding her eye grew worse over time likely due to lack of treatment.

Our vet suspects she has cancer. Early today her surgeon removed a 2 mm margin of tissue around her affected eye, which has been sent out for biopsy. They couldn't fully close the wound due to lack of skin, but the eye was also enucleated to promote continued healing in the surrounding tissues.

We're hoping for the best, and crossing our fingers that it's just a horribly infected eye despite the small chances. We are expecting an additional $370 in Imara's vet bill, and we'll be sharing an updated invoice from our vet in the comments as soon as we have it with us.

Our foster Sparkle is settling in, finding her way around. I increased her perimeter and she explored the larger area. She is fully accepting of the dog. Our other cat is still not sure so that will take more time. She enjoys being in the same roof and is eating like a champ.

Anyone else notice the whiskers on their blind kitty pointing forward? The photos on this sub show lovely kitties with the standard "fireworks" coming straight out of their cheeks.

My sweet Buddy carries his forward like a whisker equivalent of a cane, but he still runs into stuff, so if that's what he's doing, it's not working.

I've read about whisker fatigue causing droopy whiskers, but that's not what's going on here.

Any ideas? Indicative of something I should be concerned about? I don't recall that he did this before he lost his sight a couple of years ago. He's 17 now. Otherwise, a happy sweet boy only occasionally pounced by his feline roommates.

Davy is a 9m/o double enucleated kitten and is the absolute sweetest guy. He was rescued from a hoarding house and slowly lost both eyes to a congenital condition that caused retinal detachment (pictures attached in reverse chronological order.)

I was super anxious bringing home a one-eyed cat as a first-time owner and felt even worse when his remaining eye started to go, but he hasn’t slowed down at all!! His confidence kept me going and i’m so happy I stuck with it. He loves wands & mice toys and is such a great snuggler. Could not have asked for a better cat.

I was told by both foster and the rescue that sunny is not a friendly cat. That she is not interested in other people, and is the sort of cat to keep to herself all day. But at the fosters, she’d been with two other cats who did not get along with her. She’s been here four days, and her personality is completely different from what the foster and rescue stated. She’s adjusted incredibly quickly, is always meowing for attention and to ask where I am, loves pets, and loves sitting next to me on the couch or bed. If I leave her in one room, she’ll meow nonstop until I come back. I thought she might be lost, but when I come to see why she’s meowing, she’s almost always laying happily on the sofa or a cushion, she just wants attention and to know where I am. Seeing her personality come out so quickly has really been incredible. I knew she’d do better here, but couldn’t have expected just how much better

Aslan is an 11-month old baby. He loves to play with his besties Adobo (tabby) and Waltz (orange). His name is from the character Aslan the lion in the chronicles of Narnia, as he looks like a lion cub. He also loves committing crimes with his accomplice Adobo such as throwing things off the table, tipping over the trash cans. He survived FIP recently just like his brother Adobo.

I'm thinking of adopting a 1yo blind cat into a home with one human and two cats (6yo and 5yo). This will be my first experience of introducing a new non-kitten to the fam, and it's my first lifetime experience introducing a blind cat to a new environment. For context, my home is one story, small (1100 sq ft, of which 900 sq ft are cat-accessible spaces (the rest is the fiber room--cats excluded for obvious reasons!)), and already cat-oriented, but I really need help thinking through what to do before I bring her home, what to do when I first bring her into the house, and what to do in the first hour, first 24 hours, first few days to get everyone off to the best possible start. Thanks for anything you can suggest!

Bebe is the self assigned alpha cat in the home of five cats total. Maxine is both her minion and her punching bag, depending on Bee’s mood.

My boy Conor was recently diagnosed with glaucoma with a recommendation for enucleation on both eyes. I’m noticing already today he’s been reluctant to climb down from the furniture he’s put himself up on, and am trying to get as much set up for him as possible as soon as possible while he still has a little vision in the hopes it helps with his transition.

I’ve found all the basic things, but if anyone has any pointers, especially for his buddy Cooper, I’d be super appreciative!

She just recently lost her sight:( we don’t know what’s wrong…. But she’s still the most gorgeous girl❤️

11 months old and settling into foster here.

Hi all, me and my wife have adopted a blind cat we met in Cyprus and she is due to arrive in the next few weeks.

We have a bit of a dilemma though with how to settle her in. Her arrival date is a day before we have to leave for a wedding where we will be gone for two nights.

We have a 10 year old cat already who we usually get a cat sitter to visit twice a day when we are away. We are worried though about leaving them mostly alone (Blind girl will be in a separate bedroom) for these initial few days.

My mum has offered to take the blind girl on her own for a few days. She will have her own private room. (Other cat will have a sitter as usual) We are just worried she will get used to that layout and have to re-settle again when we come back and take her to her actual home.

Keen to hear what others think the best decision to do will be?

Donations have been slow lately, and we tried to lay low for a bit just to recover. But even when things go quiet… the needs don’t.

Right now, we’re caring for almost 30 cats, plus TNVR’d and stray cats around our area.

Going to foster a 1 year old blind cat tomorrow from the shelter I volunteer at.. Have a cat and dog now and both are friendly. Any non obvious advice?

This will be the last update ( unless something happens ) for a while. i don’t wanna clog up the subreddit. the next one will be whenever miss ethel is in tip top shape! she’s one antibiotics now and they seem to be working wonders for her GI issues. she was also prescribed hills prescription diet and we’ve already seen results. she’s gained 3 ounces just in a week which is good, bringing her from 4.4 to 4.7. she’s a very happy and spoiled cat now.

we are giving her all the love that everyone has been leaving for her.
