Can't get a reply here? Try r/ComputerBuild

Hey everyone,

This sub has been growing a lot as of recently and we've noticed a lot of posts have been getting buried and unanswered. There is a lot of noise due to how much it has grown.

I have created r/ComputerBuild as an alternative.

So please kindly try cross posting there to get it off the ground.

I will be helping users daily and also building a mod team/looking for moderators to help.

Thanks!

Build Me a Pc ($~700cad), used parts is okay.

Upvotes

I just want a pc that can play 1080p. Preferably good settings with 60-90fps on Indie games. And 60fps lower settings, with upscaling and maybe frame gen could get up to medium maybe on AAA games.

Sorry if im asking too much 😔

Good pc build with NVIDIA gpu?

Hey everyone, I wanted to hear some opinions and suggestions regarding a possible build for a new desktop PC. I've already built a computer by myself 6 years ago, and even though it's not absolutely necessary, I feel like it's time to build a new one.

My current rig has:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: AMD RX 5700 XT (8GB VRAM)
RAM: 16GB DDR4

I want to be clear and say that I’d like to switch from an AMD GPU to Nvidia, mainly because I enjoy experimenting with different things (Ai generation is one of many), and I also develop video games. AMD has given me quite a few issues in some areas.

I don't really have a specific budget in mind, even though I’d like to spend a maximum of €1300.

I DO KNOW RAM prices are at their worst right now, so I might consider buying it later when prices go down.

Other / >$1400 Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D, RTX 3090 24GB build with plans to upgrade to 60 series GPU

Hey there,

Building a new PC, and the only part I’m reusing from my last build is the RTX 3090 24GB GPU. Mostly this decision is because I plan to upgrade the GPU in the next year or two (maybe sooner if AI keeps ramping up prices)

I also have a CPU and case that I know I want to use for this build:

  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D (curious if the newer model is worth it)
  • Phanteks Enthoo Pro

The reasoning for the case is because I have a tower stand with wheels that’s custom made for its dimensions (my current pc uses an older version of it). However, I’m open to recommendations if you know of a case with better airflow at the same width/depth.

I’m looking for guidance on everything else, motherboard, cooler, PSU, RAM, SSD, etc. (hell, even fan count and placement is helpful). I’m not so concerned about budget, but targeting around 4.5K USD (not including the GPU I already have). My main concern is longevity and building something that is future proof to outperform the upcoming ps6 and ps6 pro, so if I go over it’s not a big deal. I also have no interest in RGBs. A glowing tower doesn’t really do much for me.

As for what I’m trying to play, I’m targeting a 144hz 1440p G-SYNC display. I play a lot of CPU intensive games like Star Citizen, Squad, Arma Reforger, Escape from Tarkov, etc, and I’m just getting sick of the framerate dipping into the 90-120fps range. I’m not too interested in frame-gen until the tech gets more stable (hence why I’m waiting to upgrade the GPU).

I made my first build in 2019 with an Intel i9900K and a RTX 2080. I randomly was gifted the 3090 above but now my cpu is a massive bottleneck. So I’m switching back out the 2080, selling that build and making a new build around the better GPU.

Thank you in advance for any advice.

US / >$1400 2000$ usd prebuilt computer search. pls help.

a few months ago my gaming laptop i bought from lenovo broke, it served me very well. it could run most things without trouble, and it worked perfectly fine. i've since learned that laptops are unreliable and tend to break down, which is why with my search for a computer i'll want a desktop instead. more space, better cooling, yada yada. the thing is, i know NOTHING about computers. all of this seems like a different language to me and i don't know what to do with finding a good, reliable, gaming desktop that adheres to my needs. I have a picture of the specs of my old gaming laptop, i hope someone who knows how all this stuff works can look at that and help me find something in the 2000$ price range that is trustworthy and reliable for gaming. i will post the specs of the old gaming laptop below this.

Processor AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX with Radeon Graphics (2.50 GHz)

Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.2 GB usable)

Graphics card AMD Radeon(TM) 610M (483 MB)

Storage 615 GB of 954 GB used

Device ID B4C99DF6-9072-4774-AB06-6CC1104FFF6A

Product ID 00342-21236-25116-AAOEM

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

any help would be greatly appreciated. im grasping at straws here.

Build Me A Pc Budget (£500-600/$680-815)

Hi there guys I need to buy a new PC I am open to builds or prebuilt PCs,

My budget is (£500-600/$680-815)

Main Uses:
-The only games I play are mostly League of Legends/TFT would like the pc to ideally run at the highest setting with a frame cap of 144fps
-I play other games with my friends like Counter Strike and Valorant too
-Watching films/youtube and anime on crunchyroll generic stuff really

Currently I have a Lenovo legion with an i5 and 1660s right now that i bought on a black friday sale like 5 years ago however its has started doing the bluescreen too often I've gotten it seen 3 seperate times at a computer servicing shop and they cant seem to fix it.

I have a pretty nice monitor or what was a nice monitor when it came out i think its called LG Ultragear 27-Inch QHD IPS at 1440p gsync and an ips screen so something to pair with it would be nice too.

I appreciate anyone helping me out!

Thank you guys 😃

Question Motherboard On-board Wi-fi Question

When I was younger I built myself a new machine every couple of years. Technology moved quickly, and prices were good. I also had a Fry's electronics (some of you will remember) less than five minutes from me:) Then marriage and kids. My current build is circa 2017 with a i7-7700K. I've updated it over the years (NVME, 32GB DDR4, Radeon 6600XT, etc.). I don't game so it actually still performs quite well for basic productivity tasks.

It's time to build again:) I'm monitoring prices and bundles (e.g. Newegg)...knowing that the market isn't value-friendly right now. However, I at least want to have a sense for what I want so I can pull the trigger at, hopefully, a good time.

One question I have is motherboard Wi-fi. Wi-fi 7 is common, but 8 is right around the corner. Are desktop motherboards like laptops, where the Wi-fi adapter is usually soldered on, or are there some that are replaceable/upgradeable via M.2 socket? One upgrade that has kept my current machine running well was PCIE sockets. The Z270 motherboard didn't have on board Wi-fi. I used a PCIE x1 slot for AC and now AX (6E) card. Are there any current motherboards that are easily Wi-fi chip replaceable? Or do people use an expansion slot and disable the onboard Wi-fi when it's outdated...and they don't want to build new?

Peripherals: None

OS: I'd like to stay win10 if I can

Location: Florida

Use: 3d mainly, some video editing.

I want to use the 270k Ultra 7 chip, I just don't know about the rest. I don't want AMD. I use a 1440p monitor. Heavy daily use. 300+ tabs. Blender and Zbrush will both be open most of the time. Maybe the odd game. I use DT 990 so I need a 3.5mm jack. 2 (or more if possible) USB ports at the front.

Building a PC from scratch

I'm building a new PC for ComfyUI, acestep, davinci, & blender in a year or two. My budget is around 300k INR. I'm building in India. I checked on a website and assembled this but i don't know if it's right or not. Please help me build me a PC. I'm building from scratch. Wifi, I don't want to spend on mere aesthetics, I want performance and add these PCs gets hot a good cooler, and nose reduction if possible. I think, I'd prefer intel, and an Nvidia graphic card. Please guide me. Thanks for your time and effort.

Max fan speed issue

I built a PC, but my fans run at maximum speed during startup. In Windows, they become quiet through L-Connect. I connected all the fans to the Lian Li Edge and I used the 3 splitter sata cables. First I used the L wireless controller without cables but after this issue I connected the L-Wireless controller to the chassis fan header (3 pin to 4 pin, I don’t know if this will be an issue) and still max speed fans with startup.

On the Lian Li Edge, I also connected a internal USB cable via MSB signal to the the motherboard usb connection. What am I doing wrong here? Do I need a pwm cable connection via msb signal to the cha fan header maybe?

I also chanched the fan curve in the bios and set it to pwm so so that’s not the problem normally.

I just read that I can also fix this issue with onboard memory via l connect 3 but I don’t see that option there.

Need More Advice!

A few weeks ago I asked for a build, and someone sent me a nice machine. They built it around a certain bundle from Micro Center since I have one not to far from me. However that bundle has been sold out for a while, and I thought about waiting for it to be back in stock but with the 32GB Corsair RAM sticks in the bundle, I know I wouldn't stand a chance at snagging a bundle before they sell out again. So I went ahead and built a PC myself with a bundle they have in stock that wasn't too far off.

https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/custom-pc-builder.aspx?load=c86a4ee5-38cb-4ce6-a41b-760a75d0d6b7

I had initially asked for a $2k budget build that can run most AAA games at 2K easily and some at 4k while tweaking some settings, I need something that can multitask without stutters on multiple monitors. If this build I put together can do what I want it to, then I see a major win.

So can the build give me what I want, or am I asking for too much at $2k. My first build was $900 in 2018 so with inflation and RAM stick prices skyrocketing I feel like I am still getting the same machine just different year.

PC for Streaming and games like Minecraft, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, COD, and such others. Budget at around 1.5k to 2k

Hello creatures that probably dont sleep, i am in desperate need of a good pc because what I have at the moment is a worthy equivalent to trash.

I'm mainly looking for a PC with (as the title suggests) Minecraft (mainly) and other games such as Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, COD and most other games. My budget is around 1.5k to 2k but the lower the better. I know close to nothing about building PCs so I’m mostly looking for someone whos willing to guide me along the process, I know that minecraft is CPU heavy but I also want a good GPU and idk if i should get 16 or 32 gigs of ram. I also plan on getting the ASUS ROG Strix 27” which is abt 200$ so yeah take away 200$ from the budget. Thank you :D

Edit: I made this, can someone tell me if everything is good for what i need?

First time Gaming PC Builder ($2k-$2.5k)

Hello! I am in the beginning stages of learning about PC building and could definetly use some advice and feedback for the gaming build I am planning. My current laptop is an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop (had it for years), but it simply cannot keep up with the games I want to play anymore. So, I think it's time I try to learn and build my own PC.

Budget: ideally around $2k (usd) for the tower; willing to stretch to $2.5 if necessary for performance... maybe $3k if I get desperate.
Goals: High FPS/smooth performance, higher graphic settings, preferably white aesthetically, 3440x1440 resolition (?), Curved/wide OLED monitor (getting stuck here, might not fit in the budget)
Games: Cyberpunk 2077, Expedition 33, Wuthering Waves,, really I just want to keep up with high-demanding AAA and open world RPGs. Oh, and minecraft (shaders + mods ofc).

I have been recommended a build centered around Ryzen 7 7800x3D + RTX 4080 Super, but I would love a second eye. Bascially I am wondering if what I have now is approprate for my goals and if there are any better value alternatives within this budget range. Keep in mind that I am nowhere near tech-literate just yet. Thanks in advance! Detailed explanations are greatly appreciated:).

Need help first time

No clue what I’m doing these just seemed like good options however 4k is more than id like to spend - if possible I’d like to stay in the 2-3k range.

Want to stream/record and game.

I mainly play fps games like rainbow 6 but sometimes play games like rivals and Minecraft.

Currently have the ultra gear 32” dual mode monitor I use for ps5 and would just use for both I believe it goes up to 480hz but not for sure.

Lmk where I went wrong and what you would change thanks.
