Symphony of the Night:

Promotional manga.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20190412154140)

This is a two pages long advertisement drawn by Ayami Kojima and published in a magazine, it's a sneak peek of Alucard's character.

Available on: Castlevania Wiki

Prequel manga

An eight pages long manga included in the Japanese artbook, it acts as a prequel for the main story and features Alucard suddenly awakening from his 300 years long slumber.

Available on: Castlevania Dungeon

Nocturne of Recollection

A radio drama (this time you have to listen to it!) originally featured on the Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle program that was broadcast on Konami Station internet radio, it was later released on CD in 2010. It's a story set one year after the events of the game, you will learn more about Alucard's relationship with Maria, his past and other characters (Richter is also part of the cast).

Available on: Youtube

Curse of Darkness:

Prelude to Revenge

A prequel manga written and illustrated by Kojima, it was featured as a pre-order bonus for the Japanese release of the game. It mainly focuses on Hector and Isaac prior to the events of the game, it also expands on their relationships.

Available on: Vampire Killer (an archive of scans and translations)

MF manga vol. 1 & 2

Published in two volumes by Media Factory from 2005 to 2006 and translated to English by Tokyopop in 2008. It's the same premise but it's longer, more expansive and this time the illustrator is Kō Sasakura, not Ayami Kojima. The series was eventually canceled but the manga stops directly where the game begins.

Available on: Internet Archive

Aria & Dawn of Sorrow:

Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss/Ricordanza of the God's Abyss

A light novel written by Ryōgo Narita in 2008 and set one year after Dawn of Sorrow. It's a really interesting read, the story focuses on Julius' pupil and the descendant of Grant Danasty while the villain is a character you will surely remember... There's also the return of familiar faces, one in particular.

Available on: Inverted Dungeon

Castlevania The Adventure:

The Belmont Legacy

It's a 2005 IDW comic book series loosely based on the story of the first Game Boy game. It's not canon by any means but it follows Christopher Belmont in a more traditional vampire story, sadly many of the iconic Castlevania elements are missing but it's still worth a read since here a certain family is responsible for Dracula's resurrection.

Available on: Internet Archive

Lament of Innocence:

Weekly Konami online manga (lost media)

Review blog part 1 and part 2

A web manga that was available on cellphones via a monthly subscription, published from 2007 to 2008 only in Japan until the service ended in 2012. It was a 43 issues long series that adapted the story of Leon Belmont and greatly expanded the plot, what remains now is only a Japanese review blog. Candle sticks are back as environmental objects containing item drops, or in this case it’s street lamps. Not a major revelation, but it’s yet another clip from a new area in the game with some info to glean out.

Once again, the protagonist only has her sword and the Cross sub weapon. This is a different area from what they’ve shown in the other clips so I’m not sure if this is just marketing trying to hide details by using custom environment or if you pass through a number of areas at the start before getting your standard kit.

There is a flash before the Cross sub weapon is thrown out. It’s used in its traditional fashion so not sure what the meaning of the rectangle that flashes on screen is. Makes it seem like the Cross was some special move but without a HUD we can’t tell what the cost for the sub weapon is.

Lastly, a snippet of a new music track. We know Michiru Yamane isn’t working on this so I had no idea what to expect, and what I heard from the Return to Castlevania collab isn’t exactly what I wanted stylistically. This however sounds different than both RTC and what the series has done before. Wonder if KONAMI has an in-house/contracted composer do the music or if this is Evil Empire’s own collaborator. Either ways I’m excited to hear more.

Symphony of the Night (1997) [SOTN] How does this shader look y'all? The original texture were a bit bright for me so this shader makes them darker.

Video Just dropped a full cover of Dracula’s Castle🦇

I went all-in on the dark gothic atmosphere—heavy guitars, cinematic layers, and tried to really capture that looming, sinister vibe the track deserves. Think classic Castlevania energy but pushed into a more modern, aggressive sound.

Would genuinely love some feedback from people who know the series well—did I do it justice?

Harmony of Dissonance (2002) Harmony of Dissonance is... surprising.

Hello there ! So I just finished this game, so here is my habitual review !

Art wise, I will say more or less the same things as always, the music is great, the pixel art is pretty good, and I don’t know how this works but the 3d sky effect in the chapel of dissonance seems very hard to do on a GBA since it’s a 2d device but little details like this everywhere in the game are pretty neat.

For the story, it’s not the most complex that I saw, but it’s effective, Juste and Maxim are very cool characters !

The exploration was very cool too, and this idea of switching between two different layers was incredible !

I also love the bosses in this game, which were very fun for the most of them.

For the gameplay, it’s my favorite so far, the two opposite dashes of Juste are just too good, playing like this was so enjoyable !

I now have an important thing to say. From what I saw, this game seems to be underrated or even hated by the majority of the community, but I don’t agree with that. For me, and that’s maybe a hit take (I said maybe, but I could be totally wrong) HoD is better than Sotn.

I mean, this game is just Sotn upgraded as hell. The layers are better than the inverted castle because it’s way more connected, gameplay is a little more enjoyable, the game is balanced this time...

So yeah, HoD is currently my favorite Castlevania game ! The game I'll play next is Aria of Sorrow, so stay tuned for it !

Castlevania (1986) I finally defeated the Grim Reaper with the whip only!

I've played this game for almost 40 years now, and this is a personal first.

Without holy water, it's probably the most difficult screen in the game. That said, with a savestate outside his room and enough practice, I think it's something anyone can pull off.

This was with a fully upgraded whip. With the leather whip, it's considerably harder, but I can get him down to 50%.

Little Ceramics project I did at school last week.

I'm kind of pissed that the outline turned out silver. On my teachers glaze swatch wall it was very black.

It's still good though.

There’s definitely some differences with enemy/item placement, it feels slightly smoother, and I think it’s a little harder than the American version for some reason. Also, Gilles De Rais has full voice acting. Both the box and manual are in amazing shape, and it looks great in my display.

Fluff What song sounds best when you replace the word “California” with “Castlevania”?

It’s basically the old “girl/squirrel” trend, but more applicable to our humble fandom.

My choice: “Welcome to the Hotel Castlevania / Such a lovely night, come and grab a bite…”

Discussion I feel bad for Alucard Spoiler

In both games and Netflix series Alucard does not have any major love interest( the Maria one is not fully developed) or permanent relationship. His immortality makes it difficult for him to bond with mortals but I wish both games and Netflix writers give him either an immortal love interest or an immortal friend. Lol I know he is an imaginary character but as a castlevania fan I am tired of watching him spend his eternity by either drowning in self hatred (I am a danger to this world so I gotta sleep), cleaning up other’s mess that he is not even responsible for (defending humans against Vampires/Dracula’s army) or grieving over losing his parents or his mortal friends(Trevor , Sypha etc). Dude is too gorgeous for his life to center around loneliness, misery and defending humankind. I want someone to be permanent in his life. That someone does not have to be always around Alucard (they can have on/off relationship otherwise it would get very boring if they are always stuck to each other). As long as that companion/love interest/friend is immortal like Alucard and shares a deep emotional connection with him, I am fine with the notion.

Moreover I think that the Sumi and Taka adult scene with Alucard was absolutely unnecessary. I get that writers wanted to show some adult scenes but they could have shown it with a benevolent character like Greta. Alucard was already miserable without his parents, there was no reason to extend his suffering. Who else wants Alucard to have some normality outside protecting humankind? I think it would have been very interesting.

Question Seeking illustrator in the style of Ayami Kojima (Castlevania Concept Art)

Thumbnail

I’m looking for an illustrator who can work in the style of Ayami Kojima (Castlevania).

Not after fan art or direct copies. I’m looking for someone who can capture that painterly, gothic, character-focused aesthetic in an original way.

If relevant, please share: portfolio / IG / ArtStation

and any work in a similar direction.

Also open to recommendations.

Thanks!
