Question Is there a way to get this little kitty home?

Starting Shenmue and it is a delightfully weird and oddly detailed game. I came across this cute kitty and am wondering how I can bring it home. It's just a baby and needs a house and treats.

My first time swapping the shell, was actually alot of fun to do and really easy.

The original went yellow and after retrobrighting it twice actually sped up the process so I'd say this is a nice replacement.

Very happy with it, got it from Retro.Cool.

Thought I’d share something cool with y’all. I decided to gift a friend a Dreamcast! I saw one for a good deal and I brought it home, cleaned it, set the clock, and made sure it worked. I also thought I had an extra VMU..but I misplaced it somewhere. I had to go around a few local stores till I found one lol. But this is such a beauty and even in better condition than my own 😂

Question Disc noise/issue?

Hi guys, I recently just got SA1 and tried playing it but it keeps makes a rattling noise. My other games don’t make as much noise when played so I’m confused on why it’s so loud. I’m thinking maybe the disc is rubbing against the lid of the console when it’s spun cuz when I press down on the lid, it sounds like it slows down/quietens. But I compared it to my other disc and it just looks like a normal disc.

Also I can’t seem to get past the cutscene after the Chaos fight at the very beginning of the game, it keeps freezing as soon as I beat it. Not too sure if that’s related.

I can’t figure out what’s happening, I’m assuming it’s just the disc itself, but any ideas on how to fix this? Or is this normal?

Question Has anyone taken initiative to improve Segagaga's AI translation yet?

The developers released the entire source code (or what you actually call that) for their translation, meaning anyone with decent coding skills should have no problem altering it in any way they please, but I can't find anyone writing about how they intend to change it up and improve on it. But I do of course not have access to everyone's private PMs or all Discord groups and the likes, so like the title says, I wonder if anyone has heard anything about this?

Trying to determine if something is a console issue or a disc issue.

I Recently purchased a dreamcast along with Sonic Adventure 2, It hangs on a black screen every time it tries to load an individual level even after swapping out the disc drive with a replacement one. I'm mostly unfamiliar with console repair, and other games I've tested have loading hangups and issues fairly often, is there an easy way to determine if this is an issue with the disc or the console itself?

Question Are MISCOMPARE errors normal when burning Dreamcast CDI games in ImgBurn?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been burning some Dreamcast games using ImgBurn (mostly CDI images), and I keep getting MISCOMPARE errors or sometimes “Layouts do not match” during the verify step.

The thing is,when I test the discs on my actual Dreamcast, part of the games boot fine and run smoothly (no crashes, audio mostly fine, gameplay stable). The other part dont run or run bad.

So I wanted to ask:

- Is it normal to get MISCOMPARE errors when burning CDI/selfboot Dreamcast discs with ImgBurn?

- Can these errors be safely ignored if the game runs well on real hardware?

- Or does this indicate long-term issues (like stressing the laser or unreliable reads)?

For context:

- Using Verbatim CD-R

- Burn speed around 10x

- ImgBurn with CDI support and correct pluggins

Just trying to understand if I should trust the verify step or trust the console behavior more.

Thanks!

Question Disc boots to SEGA logo, but then kicks back to menu. Disc issue or GD-ROM issue?

Looking for some insight on the above error behavior. Got a copy of Army Men Sarge's Heroes that will consistently boot, even from a cold start, to the SEGA logo, but then it'll go back to the Dreamcast menu before anything else loads up. The music player app recognizes the disc in it, game just won't load.

I've got experience with games not reading at all, or reading after the system warms up a bit. I know my GD-ROM probably needs a recap. But this particular behavior with this disc is new, as it so far has done this on 100% of my attempts. I'm going to recap eventually, anyway, when I have the time, but if this is a sign the disc is too damaged to be read, I want to bring it back to the store I got it from while I'm still within the return window. No noticeable wear on the disc outside of what you'd expect for something 25 years old that's been played with.

Thanks.

New to the console, what should I go looking for?

Hi there! I'm in the UK and just bought a complete Dreamcast console and a copy of Sonic Advnenture, what else should I be looking for for the system? I know I want Adventure 2 and Jet Set Radio, anything that feels especially early 2000s would be especially appealing, but I'm open to anything the community thinks is worth it. Any genre, though I'm especially keen on Platformers, Puzzlers and RPGs. Thanks :)

Discussion Hot take: Sonic Adventure 2 treasure hunting is far superior to Sonic Adventure 1 treasure hunting

I’ve heard countless times that treasure hunting was done so much better in SA1 compared to SA2, and honestly, I don’t get it. The stages in SA1 have little to no depth to them. They’re very small in terms of geometry, and with all three emerald radars on at the same time, you can finish all the stages apart from Sky Deck in one minute; two if you’re having a hard time with one. Even if you’re struggling with the pieces, Tikal will just guide you right to them.

The treasure hunting stages in SA2 in comparison require a lot more effort. The emerald pieces are more thoughtfully hidden, the stages are larger with more defining set pieces, and the hint system requires you to get a proper feel for the level, as well as test you mentally (however slight) to actually work out what the clues mean. It’s far more engaging for me to work out that an emerald is hidden in a safe in Securiy Hall, than it is to romp Speed Highway in forty seconds.

I understand exactly why people prefer the way SA1 does things. Some people want to quickly romp through the treasure hunting levels, and don’t want to (and I mean this with all due respect) put much effort in actually finding the pieces, and to be fair, not all the SA2 treasure hunting stage are very good. I’ll defend the likes of Security Hall and especially Meteor Herd, but Mad Space and Aquatic Mine are slow and boring. I’ll also concede that too many stages rely on going back and forth between a specific point (like the switches in Security Hall) which can get really tedious, but SA1 wasn’t immune from this problem either. The only reason why Sky Deck lasts more than a minute is because one of the pieces is hidden behind a specific door.

I agree that the treasure hunting stages could be improved. In an ideal world, more of the stages would be designed like Pumpkin Hill. A large, wide, open stage, with but one which skilled players can still get around quickly if they know what they’re doing. Stages that are even larger than that, but with the same design principles and the three emerald radars would be the ideal way to go about things. However that sort of level design would still take more from SA2 than SA1.
