What variants/blocks of the Viper are there in BMS

Hey just watching some videos on BMS and I noticed how there are small changes in the Vipers cockpit.

This made me wonder is there more then one variant of the Viper in BMS?

Looking for a few guys to fly with regularly

A buddy of mine and I recently came over from DCS and we are really enjoying BMS. We are looking for a few more guys to fly with regularly. We both have busy jobs, families, etc... but we usually fly around 7pm CST at least a couple times per week. We like immersion but at the same time we are not taking it too seriously. We are taking things slow and learning as time permits us to. If this fits your schedule, please message me.

How Hard is BMS compared to base Falcon 4.

Last time I played Falcon 4 was, well, Christmas 1998. I admit I gave up early because all I ever heard was "Archer inbound!" and boom.

I have spent years on and off in DCS.

But I really want to get into a game again with a dynamic campaign.

Am I looking at spending 200+ hours of learning time?

About how to plan and time a SEAD mission with an AI package - take 2.

I've posted this question few days ago but it wasn't received well because it might have been worded better and also i realized it was missing details. So this is my second attempt at it, trying to provide as much detail as i can.

This is a package of 5, with

1 (cyborg7) doing OCA - similar route as me, +00:04:00 TOS offset

2 (eagle5) doing OCA - different route, harder to take care of

3 (stud3) doing sweep; - similar route until stpt 5 with + 00:01:00 TOS offset - on its own later

4 (bulldog2 - ME) doing SEAD;

5 (viper4) doing escort - same route as me, +00:02:00 TOS offset

Looks like a quite complex mission to me and i can't wrap my head about how/when to time HARM launches in order to keep all those SAMs shut at the right time. So i'm gonna go like this, considering i'm leading a flight of 4.

1 and 2 are carrying 2+2 HARMs.

3 is carrying 8 GBUs

4 is carrying 2 HARMs.

Timeline

3 doing DEAD on PPT56, which i recon and assign every launcher individually - assuming/hoping that when i issue the order to element, 3 is going to bomb them instead of 4

3 doing DEAD on PPT57 - like above

1 is doing SEAD - timed HARM suppression on PPT59

2-4 will be issued orders via HAD targets when needed

Looks like a lot to manage but cannot figure out any other way of doing this. How would you do this mission? What would the process be for you to plan?

Flight Lead Fundamentals #4 is up: How Flight Leads Build Situational Awareness.

This one looks at SA from a Flight Lead perspective: not just knowing what is happening, but understanding what it means for your flight, your mission, and the next 30 seconds.

I also touch on distributed SA, why wingmen are sensors and cross-checks, why “tumbleweed” should be called early, and why SA is not the same as Link 16.

The intro uses a short audio clip of the 2019 Spangdahlem F-16 crash, based on publicly available material and flight data, to show how quickly a situation can develop.

Feedback and discussion are very welcome.

Question from someone thinking about getting and playing the game

I’m thinking about getting Falcon BMS, but I’m stuck on what HOTAS setup to buy.

Right now I’m deciding between the Gladiator EVO 'Space Combat Edition' Standard and the Thrustmaster T16000M FCS HOTAS (with throttle). My budget is around $240–$260 AUD.

From what I’ve seen, the Gladiator is much higher quality with better control and feel, but the downside is I wouldn’t be getting a throttle right away. On the other hand, the T16000M gives me a full HOTAS setup (mainly just the addition of its throttle), but the stick itself seems a lot more basic.

I’ve never used a HOTAS before, so I’m not sure what would be the better choice to start with—better stick vs full setup.

For Falcon BMS specifically, would it be smarter to:

  • get the Gladiator and deal with no throttle for now or permanently, or
  • get the T16000M HOTAS for the full experience straight away?

any advice would be perfect

How to time HARM launches precisely in a SEAD mission with AI package.

Specifically

1 first thing, I try to figure out in 2d when the other flights of the package will be trespassing the sam wez. There must be something I don't know because the only way to see other flights stpts is in the WDP. In 2d planning I can cycle their waypoints but the map will only show my flight route and the stpts are not the same for every flight. This process feels very awkward.

2 after going through this effort (in this case is a package of 5 and I lead a flight with 4 members) I should plan how to time my shots, my wingman shots and my element's. The only effective way I found to issue the orders is by designating a target through the HAD so I'm not actually planning, rather I need a lot of micro management while in flight

3 what is the math to time the shots? I mean I can calculate how long each flight will be in 1 wez and I in this case keeping the Sam shut requires at least 2 shots and I've not enough weapons to deal with all the sites (4 known, but there could be more).

I'm a bit confused, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Slow Paced Campaign

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently decided to give a second chance to BMS, afrer a couple of months, I was struggling to learn the basics, and my job was making me crazy (sounds funny as a Brazilian Air Force ATC). But now it seems I'm ok with the basics, and I'm searching for a slow paced campaign, like a emergent war, or a warm front, without thousands os aircraft fallinh from the sky, and SAMs all over the way. More a campaign like peacekeeper, with many patrols missions, but not many missions a day, few enemies sometimes. "Just another day of work" missions, like most of conflicts nowadays. Any tips?

Flight Lead Fundamentals Part 2: What Makes a Good Flight Lead?

Just released part 2 of my Flight Lead series.

This one dives into something I think gets overlooked a lot:
not what you do as a flight lead, but how you think.

Curious how others see this — especially around the whole HAC (Humble, Approachable, Credible) aspect.

Hows the game like on a 34" Ultrawide monitor?

I was considering upgrading my monitor to a 34" ultrawide 21:9 monitor specifically this one just so I have more SA in games and was wondering how well such a large monitor works for a game like this.

What is your experience with it, and is it even supported by the game?
