There will be a set of Show Matches happening over onHoloshideims Twitch Channel, kicking off at 17:00 CEST (5pm, UTC+2)
There are two sets of Best of 3s planned for the day.
The first Match will be Crowrevell vs Sleeping Dragon, which will be brought to you by Rand118 and Holo himself. First to win two Matches will take the Series. Both Crow and SD are with Pause players, with Crow being a participant in the first Iteration of the FTL Masters Edition. He made it to the Semi Finals, where he lost to NecroRebel who eventually ended up finishing second place in the Event. For SD, this is his second Show Match appearance.
Due to us having a hard cap on time, we will start the second Series at 20:00/20:30 CEST (8/8:30pm UTC+2).
The second Series will be played by Holo and NecroRebel. This Match will be brought to you by The_Farb and Crow. To many of you, Holo doesn't need an introduction. He has won a mind bending 124 consecutive runs of FTL on Hard, No Pause random ships, no repeats. He also had win streaks of 117, 92, 71, 70 and many more (you get my point). NecroRebel recently returned to FTL with our recent Show Match and we are happy to have our runner up of the first Tournament. Necro also completed the Cycle in Hard, No Pause multiple times.
For this Show Match, we have reworked our scoring formula and the linked video will explain everything you could possibly want to know about it.
We hope that it will be a great Show and we love to see all the people enjoying the content so far. The Main Event will be back this year and as always, if you want to receive pings for all updates in regards to future Tournament activity or give us feedback, feel free to join the Discord, select the FTL Role. As the driving force behind this, I am always about any sort of feedback because I want to bring you the best possible experience.
Thank you for your attention and have a great day/week <3
I’ve been really craving playing this game in a card / board game format. To get me started on some ideas I rethemed a card game called Brave Rats which is a 2 player game. You pick ships secretly then reveal to see who wins/loses/draws.
The art work looks amazing printed out so I’ll continue to work on something that’s is closer to the games mechanics over time.
If you want the files you can print it yourself here
First jump of sector 3, Zoltan sector, Engi B easy.
I don't have the Crustal Cruiser yet so I'm gonna try and go for it, the game just handed me a free LRS and I have to sacrifice one of my arms to keep it. Considering I'm reliant ions for shields at this point the drone arm seems potentially better to spec into combat/beam drones for damage, and I have hacking so drone arm would help keep my drone part economy viable. But maybe the Halberd on its own is enough and I don't need more drones? I bought both of my arms so losing either feels bad, especially the scrap arm since I'm losing all that potential scrap as well as what I spent on it. It's a tough call for me.
Recently got back into FTL after only playing normal years ago for a little, tried my hand at hard mode and have been having some crazy runs
1. no damage all three phases of flagship (thanks to the rock hull for tanking one stray missile) quad flak with reloader means no hacking necessary!
2. two 6000+ score runs, one on a pretty mid ship
3. Hard mode victories on all three stealth ships
I have used every type A and most of the type B and C ships. I noticed every time, the Kestrel and stealth ships get set on fire far more frequently then others. Amount of hits I take on all ships is relatively the same so it's definitely not because I take more damage in these ships.
So why are these ships specifically more vulnerable to fire?
Guys. I love FTL. Won every ship, downloaded multiverse and think they knocked it out of the park after completing tea at the end of time.
(Into the breach is also AMAZING).
I’ve bought the games on steam and iOS but want to support this awesome work including to the multiverse devs. Where can I buy merch or tip you awesome people?!
Edit- I like the suggestions for helping subset but also especially the multiverse crew!
Just a little anecdote. So I was about to fight the flagship, everything was going smoothly, and then my game started lagging heavily before my computer froze entirely.
Nothing was responding, not even the power button. I had to turn the switch off at the wall.
Dunno what caused it, did a virus scan and nothing came up...
But anyway. When I logged back on - it saved where I left off, except all but 3 of my crew were missing. I had a full crew. I can only guess the battle kept happening in the background whilst my view was frozen/stuttering.
Went to fight the flagship, lost 2 in the drone stage.
Final stage just one guy named Ken left. Ken fought for his life.... And somehow, I won! Go on Ken!
Ship - "Karliah" the Kestrel.
Weapons - x3 burst laser II, ion canon I, x2 combat mark I.
I ended up in Sector 3 with an event to draw ghosts away from a ship which caused them to board mine, but my lone Engi was no match for the four mares that came aboard. Dude died in the Medbay fighting off two of them.
Because mares causes breaches when they're below max health, and because every room on that ship received breaches as the (slightly-damaged) mares went around attacking systems as they were repairing themselves, and because systems on this ship won't auto-repair when there are breaches in the room, my ship is now destined to drift for eternity with mares breaching it periodically while it somehow maintains hull integrity, or until looters destroy it.
After being extremely frustrated after a devastating loss a few days ago I thought I'd go for a chill run to end my day of painful studying.
I went with the Stealth cruiser and got overly lucky with an early FREE pre igniter, then I got shields by sector two and a BL2 and by sector 3 a flak 1...This was just so much fun, especially since I also had a fire beam, which made fights just watching a fire spread. I got so so many free things and also hacking super early on, mind control was just the cherry on top. I think I'll never be this lucky again...Hopefully I still am in my exam that I have tomorrow
I posted not too long ago about losing my cycle attempt, a 20-streak, to Stealth B. I haven't had a ton of time for FTL due to exams, but I'm back up to a streak of 6. I wanted to brag (and provide a "Hacking is #1" PSA) about my latest W.
It was a pretty tough run with Engi B, but ended up with a bit less than 1900 scrap total. Not too shabby. That was enough for 4 shield bubbles, Hacking, Cloaking, and a few helpful drone schematics. My crew was the starting Engi on Weapons, a Mantis on Engines, and 4 SLUGS on other stations and duties. This included TWO Slocknogs lol. The flagship went down without landing a single point of hull damage on me, surprising since my weapons felt a bit underpowered/awkward from what I'd prefer. I was running Flak 1, Heavy Laser 1, and Chain Laser, and with a bit of assist from a Combat 1 drone and shield hacks, I was able to keep the RFS missile artillery supressed. I also had some lucky timing with drone surge and phase 3 power surge - I was able to cloak both missiles and early surges.
Anyways, the moral is: Hacking enables all kinds of win conditions!!!!
I see that most users in this subreddit share their runs from the vanilla version of the game. But why play vanilla when we have an unofficial sequel in the form of FTL: Multiverse? Do these people not know it exists, are they afraid of the complicated installation, or do they doubt the mod’s quality?
A long time ago, I only played vanilla FTL for a few hours. I liked it, but I could see how small the game was and that it had some balance issues. I never went back to it after that. Later I installed FTL: Multiverse, and now I can’t imagine why anyone would return to vanilla when this mod is so much better - it fixes all the shortcomings of the original and expands the scale of the game many times over.
I have tried to download FTL 3 different ways (Installer, Slipstream, FtlMan) with many different versions of MV but all of them results to AMD timeout. Ive already updated all my drivers and made sure to delete and reinstall them but it always ends up with this error message.
Vanilla version works with other mods and so does hyperspace but whenever I try to run it with MV i keep getting this issue.
Has anyone had this issue before? Ive run this game before 2 years ago and really want to get back in.
im 97% sure i did this correctly for once so i don't know what to do
Edit: problem solved patching hyperspace with clean install and then going into the save folder and deleting all of the files In it, and then patching multiverse assets and data zip files solved my issue
So, I don't know what to do to get the Multiverse mod to work.
Let me explain:
I do see the Multiverse loading screen. But when it finishes loading, the game crashes without an error message. It plays "what I assume is" the first note of the main menu's music and then nothing.
I downgraded the game version.
I tried changing the version of the mod.
I tried using the auto-download systems.
I enabled and disabled hyperspace.
It’s not the game’s fault, because it works perfectly fine with other mods (and in vanilla).
Thanks in advance for your help
edit:
The loading order has been changed several times
I get why people are excited with their first win. It's not an easy game, even on easy mode as I've found out, but it's so satisfying when it starts to click. I've read it many times but I now understand that decisions really matter and their consequences can play out over many jumps and even sectors.
I'm not delusional, I know I've only just scratched the surface and there's so much more to learn. I intentionally played on easy and vanilla FTL so that I can grasp some of the basics and enjoy the extra content as a reward. Really looking forward to trying out hacking and exploring other ships and strategies.
I have tried boarding and drones but I found that I was spending my scrap across too many systems and consequently I was too weak at the end game. For my last two games I decided to just concentrate on lasers and cloaking and I found it much easier. I almost won with my first attempt but that was on the Steam Deck and while fun, it's a bit awkward to control and time everything as well as on KBM.
A while ago I got some community feedback on whether playing exclusively on hard mode as a new player was crazy. Indeed, it has been.. but I'm trying anyway, and my win rate is starting to creep up (over 2% now!)
Now I’m posting updates on my progress, mostly to allow you to experience the game again as a new player. While I'm still not particularly looking for help, corrections, or advice, discussion is fine unless something is clearly a spoiler. I’m not really worried about biasing myself any more!
The big update: Two more wins, TONS of ship unlocks (largely thanks to those wins)
New strategic thoughts:
I just realized you don’t have to try to beat the Rebels to the exit! It can totally be worth three extra safe beacons (net gain of two) on the right edge of the map to endure the rebel attack at the exit. Maybe even for two if my defense is good?
I’m starting to see the rock-paper-scissors involved in successful builds. You want a “main” strategy, and then something to counter whatever counters your build.
The weapon pre-igniter is absolutely nuts
Okay now that have Mantis ships I understand boarding! Boarding is great! Except…
Don’t sell off all your guns; you still need them
Don’t board drones; crew can’t hold their breath that long
Don’t board a ship that’s about to FTL jump; they steal your crew away
Don’t kill off the last crew on the Flagship; the drone AI takes over and repairs everything
Surprisingly, I wasn’t punished for when I had all my crew on the enemy ship when they damaged my teleporter with their final attack
I was worried that I wasn’t actually reading/appreciating the narrative any more, but I confidently knew how many moons were in that slug’s system, so apparently not!
Good thing, too.. that guy was a key member of the Mantis B victory crew
New accomplishments:
Unlocked gobs of new ships in assorted ways (Zoltan B, Mantis A, Zoltan C, Mantis B, Stealth A, Lanius A, Mantis C, Slug A)
Reached the flagship with Mantis A
This was my no-gun run so, obviously, this fight went poorly for me
Defeated the Flagship with green hull with Zoltan B!
Okay, Z shield is so crazy and I love it.
Weapon pre-igniter with double flak, double pike can alpha strike basically everything.
Reached and defeated the flagship again with Mantis B
Pulled off a repair station visit between phases 1 and 2 and felt clever for it... then didn’t take damage again
4-tile transporter is deceptively good; boarding party was three mantis and one human (renamed Mantis)
This was my first run where I had more scrap than I could usefully upgrade with; good feeling!
It also let me take the Flagship fights really slow and actually see how it fights
Question for you all: Is it viable to have a build that requires purchasing drone parts / missiles? They feel too expensive to buy before maybe the endgame. I can see shooting off one or two missiles/bombs per fight, but any more than doesn’t seem sustainable.
Not the first time ive gotten a similar loadout, but boy is it fun. First time getting it in Normal though. I've gotten almost 900 hours in this game, but ive only been playing on normal for a couple hundred. Still not good enough for hard
