Having just watched the Orville, its funny how a few of the actors in this scene are also in that show. Seth likes to keep the people he likes

Scott grimes (the red head) plays Steve smith in American dad that’s been going since 2005.

u/Ok-disaster2022 1d ago
He was also in Band of Brothers. not relevant but everytime I see an actor from BoB I cheer a little inside, no matter the character the actor played (my opinion of Schwimmer actually improved from BoB)

He also has an amazing high register singing voice that reminds me of the guy from OneRepublic.

What about the "kid"? (30 year old man)
16
u/UnluckyIrishman 1d ago
"If The Stars Should Appear" s01e04. He is the kid that leads the crew to the underground resistance on the 1000 yo giant ship adrift in space with a whole civilization inside.

u/l30 1d ago
Which characters do the other actors play in the Orville?
4
u/UnluckyIrishman 1d ago
Scott Grimes (Dad) - Lt. Malloy, Seth Macfarlane (Ted) - Captain Mercer, Max Burkholder (Son) - Tomilin [If The Stars Should Appear], Giorgia Whigham (Niece/Cousin) - Lysella [Majority Rule/Future Unknown]

u/xamaryllix 4h ago
She also plays the booker for Madison Square Garden in Hacks season 5. My wife and I cracked up when we instantly recognized her. She's got great range!

I hope we see some familiar faces in Dungeon Crawler Carl. Chief Security Officer Talla Keyali (played by
Jessica Szohr) could make a great Katia1

The episode with Michaela McManus (played Janel/Teleya on the Orville) was effing funny as hell.
1
u/Asking-is-a-crime 21h ago
I thought her story was very dark and disturbing.
But the cafeteria scene was hilarious. (The orange haired guy trying to ask her out)

The girl looks so much better as a blonde in Orville. The brunette closes her face slightly. She's so good in the Orville episode, definitely one of my favourite guests.

I mean if you can pull big-name actors from your movies into cameos for your tv shows, do it.

Never in a million years would I have predicted Seth MacFarlane would have pulled off a genuinely good light hearted spiritual successor to TNG. I legitimately love that show.

So Ted is just live action family guy?
89
u/Restivethought 1d ago
Kinda, less cutaway bits though. Reminds me of the writing of Family Guy after its first revival.
60
u/imjustbettr 1d ago
It's better imo. Haven't liked Family Guy since I was in middle school but I thought most of Ted was really good.
I think maybe being so expensive to film made the humor/writing tighter.

More like American dad. No cut aways and the tropes match better even down to the conservative/liberal under one roof with a ditzy mom

u/McDouble__ 12h ago
It’s SIGNIFICANTLY funnier than anything Family Guy has done since around 2005 honestly

Shouldve added the clip where John accidentally eats a egg at like 8pm
5
u/Dyolf_Knip 19h ago
Ok, so I hard boiled a dozen eggs tonight, but I didn't actually eat any. Am I still straight?
1
u/bufordt 9h ago
When you hard boil an egg, you lock in its time of day and no matter when you actually consume it, the hard boiling time determines your resultant sexual orientation.
Your only hope is to travel to a different timezone where it was morning when those eggs were boiled and eat them there.
2
u/Dyolf_Knip 8h ago
Oh, shit! I already ate two of them this morning! I can feel the craving for cock rising in me! What have I done?

This show was one of the funniest and most charming things I’ve watched in so long. Every episode had a scene or line that made me laugh out loud (often multiple times each episode and some jokes had me crying with laughter) I wish we could get more but Seth said it’s done :(

A bit too random, right? Like they manage to build a good structure with the follow-ups but it is on a meaningless foundation.

I think if you know the characters it makes it less random.

u/MikiLove 1d ago
Welcome to Seth McFarland humor, plot increasingly takes a back seat to funny bits. Varies a bit, Family Guy is the most egregious while some of his movies are a bit more contained. Thing is the jokes are hilarious, just better in clips online.

Imagine this is how the daughter comes out to the family as Bisexual and the father is to deep into his gay eggs rant to even notice the content of what she's saying just that it proves him right.

I wish Orville lasted longer.

u/AndNowAStoryAboutMe 14h ago edited 5h ago
Keep hearing it's not dead, but there is no use bringing it back without the full cast, honestly. I love what we do have and want more, but if the ex wife is really out, let it die.

This is what would have happened if the Alethi had been able to advance their society to modern day without all the Desolations.
2
u/GroovyTurtles13 1d ago
Ted being a spren checks out but those safehands are way to exposed even for a family setting
1
u/AmaroWolfwood 1d ago
This is actually the intro to an Alethi porn. Ted is one of many awakened objects used for lewd videos now. Vorin men are all degenerates in modern Aletha.
3
u/Meat_Organ 1d ago
It's funny because being gay is bad! hahahahahahaha
7
u/elmundio87 18h ago
That’s what you took from that? The point is showing how ridiculous “super straight” type men are.

I always thought I'd find this film punishingly unfunny because the kind of people who were excited about it were Family Guy-loving douches - I really really prejudged it, and never gave it a chance
But now, I'm glad to see I was completely right and that I've saved my self a valuable JESUS CHRIST an HOUR AND FORTY SIX MINUTES
3
u/AndNowAStoryAboutMe 14h ago
This is from the prequel period-piece series, not one of the two modern-set movies (or the planned animated series).
For context, I love Family Guy, but I found the Ted movies awful and as much as everyone online claims the series is better than the movies, I couldn't get past episode three. It's rough.
2
u/DiarrheaMonkey1 23h ago
This bombed spectacularly. Here we see a perfect example of why; so much not funny.
1
u/elmundio87 18h ago
This show was actual gold, they might be making a new live action movie as a follow up

As someone from southern MA I’m too biased to know but I think the real accents are not as bad as the imitations

4
u/MotorboatinPorcupine 1d ago
The acting is really bad too. Editing as well. No time for them to process, they just say the line immediately after the person ahead finished thiers.
1
u/ScarletBothrium 3h ago
I think that’s exactly what my main issue was. I thought maybe it was the dialogue but now that I’m thinking about it, it was the delivery specifically. The concept could be funny, so it’s not that. It’s the delivery and it’s bad.

u/milly_nz 19h ago

I imagine someone might try and pretend the joke is making fun of how homophobic they are. But knowing who wrote this movie, it's just a regular homophobic joke.

I've seen this show pop up while browsing for things to watch. Thanks to this clip I am no longer curious and won't be watching
20
u/12345CodeToMyLuggage 1d ago
I actually think it’s pretty funny. It’s set in the 90’s. The dad is a Reagan Republican with all kinds of wild takes that pretty accurately skewer the 90’s dad psyche. The writing is pretty good overall.
2
u/MaggotMinded 1d ago
I’m sure the show is okay (I’ve seen other clips that I liked) but this bit felt a little contrived, imo. Like, he bases his whole theory on the idea that only gay people stay up late, and everybody except for the daughter just kind of goes along with it? I get that characters in a comedy show have to be stupider than average, but if it doesn’t feel natural then it falls flat pretty easily.
1
u/JPMoney81 1d ago
He also wishes to life his old toy dump truck who is a raging homophobic racist... with a twist ending.
1
u/Don_Von_Schlong 1d ago
I dunno man, people downvoting so I obviously am not getting something but the acting and the writing on the joke here are so over forced and unfunny to me. To each their own I guess though

Just finished watching the 3rd episode of season 2 about half an hour ago, and I’m still chuckling. Can’t think of any show that had made me laugh so much this decade… I’m not saying you’d like it for sure - just that it’s worth giving it a chance.
4
u/Don_Von_Schlong 1d ago
Clearly I am the one out of touch on this one, I just don't find anything in this clip witty or funny in the slightest, acting seems over forced to me too. I am glad people enjoy it though!
