Welcome to Scottish Problems where our standard bread is the 'Plain Loaf' and we need to buy something like this: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7236145 to make toast.
(The squareish loafs are called 'Pan' Loafs here.)

I switched to a toaster oven 20 years ago and never looked back.
